For Halloween, I dressed up as a player from the movie A League of Their Own and was looking for a baseball bat. All the prop ones were super pricey and were crap. I decided to look for an actual bat. I found what I was looking for on Koch's website. I ordered it with the option of curbside pickup. Their customer service was excellent. The price I paid for my Louisville Sluggar was what I would have paid for a crappy prop bat, but now I have it for a: "home defense" and b: if I want to it up the batting cages. I'd definitely shop from Koch's again! I'd also rather support a small, local business vs a big box store or national retailer. read more

As a small business frequenter and advocate for shopping all-things small business, it hurts me to write this review; However, it needs to be displayed. We attended Opening Day at GABP and before we left town the next day, we stopped to support a local, small business that our family had frequented for many years instead of giving money to a giant corporation. We wanted a jersey to honor my late father who took his life on Christmas Day 2017 by getting a Ryan Freel jersey made. Along with that, we took a child's jersey purchased from the Pro Shop, and requested to have it customized. We paid and were told the jerseys would be mailed to us once completed (we live 3 hours north). A few days went by and the jerseys showed up. Wow. I can't even put into words how terrible the quality was. It was SHOCKING - I thought it was a prank. The names were completely crooked. A knock-off Chinese replica would be better quality!! The child's jersey was butchered and would have been better off without being customized. The adult jersey was just a joke. After complaining the first time, we were told things would be made right. We were sent a return label to send back the jerseys. They were "fixed" and returned pretty quickly. The updated versions are no better. The child's jersey is still not satisfactory but since he is a toddler, it's not my issue. My issue is the adult jersey. It remained completely crooked, uneven, and unsatisfactory. A few weeks went by and we decided to head to the shop in person. My boyfriend asked for a refund of the "customization," not even a refund of the entire thing. There was blatant refusal to fix the shoddy work without being upcharged $70. Eventually, the conversation led to my boyfriend being asked to leave and a refusal to fix this atrocious attempt at a replica. In short, save your money on customizations. Buy directly from the Pro Shop. The quality of their work blows Koch's out of the water. The money you're saving by trying to buy a knock-off isn't worth the headache in the long run. Save the embarrassment of the crooked letters. People can tell. Very disappointed. Will not be returning. read more

Huge sporting goods store in Downtown Cincinnati. I visited looking for new Cincinnati Reds shirt, after the winter we've had Opening Day can't arrive soon enough and need some new Reds gear. They did have a variety of shirts, but I couldn't find one just right for me. There was one shirt I saw on display and wanted to know if they had some in the back, but there was only one employee working and the store was crowded with tons of people & watch out for kids running all over the place. read more

Stopped in to grab some last second Reds gear as we were staying in downtown Cincy and wanted to check out this historic sporting goods store. They cram a lot of stuff into a small place and do have tons of Reds gear. Unfortunately everything is on the very pricey side. Ended up buying an official ballcap and a baseball for autographs mostly to say I made a purchase here. If you're in a pinch, I recommend this place, otherwise stick to the bigger stores for your sporting goods needs. read more

This place is great! I've heard some good things about it, but never made time to go. Now that I've gone, I wish I had gone much sooner! There are walls and walls of Reds and Bengals merchandise which makes sense, but they have gear for just about every team in most sports! I was especially impressed that they had Houston Texans gear - there's not many places around Cincinnati that sell Texans merchandise. They also have sporting equipment for various sports. I had heard very little about Koch Sporting Goods downtown, but I had this feeling that it was going to be an awesome store. I was right. As the name might imply, they have plenty of sporting goods. From your usual baseball bats and helmets to little things like tennis balls and tennis ball savers (keep an opened can of balls fresh), Koch has a great selection. If you just want equipment, no sense in driving all the way to downtown if you're not in the area. If you want jerseys and other team gear, then this is the place to be. Koch surely has the best and largest selection of Bengals and Reds jerseys, outside of their official pro shops at their respective stadiums. Many of the jerseys are the authentic kind, which are thus more expensive, but there aren't many places in town where you can get an Edinson Volquez jersey (new star pitcher for the Reds), for example. I stayed away from the Xavier section, but was pleased to see a nice Bearcat area near the front of the store. Since the Jordan Brand stopped sponsoring Cincinnati it has been tough to find UC jerseys and especially shorts. They've got them here, shorts going for $40, and jerseys including #45 (John Williamson) from this year, and a few from the past for a lower price. They even have Chadd Moore and Armein Kirkland jerseys with the actual names out on display, although I bet they aren't for sale (not that either was that great anyways). I was surprised by the large numbers of jerseys from non-Cincinnati professional and especially college teams. If I were getting a jersey it would be from a local team, but I'd imagine there is somewhat of a demand from non- native residents of Cincinnati. Once again, the jerseys are more expensive because they are authentic, but it's still fun to look at the selection even if not making a purchase. They even had a Marcus Camby college jersey (with his name on the back). As far as college t-shirts go, they have everything from Northern Kentucky to Oklahoma football. If you want sporting equipment, it's probably easiest to head to Dick's. If you want jerseys, then you must make it to Koch because they've got the "goods." read more

There were about half a dozen Cyclones t-shirts, size XXL, and some baseball caps. Compared with the *incredible* selection of orange-and-black, I was disappointed to see so little love for our guys on ice. A very friendly fellow helped me get a pair of indoor soccer shoes in my size rather quickly and the price was very reasonable. And they had Anaheim Ducks trashcans for sale! Very nice selection of products for all sports- we noticed baseball, soccer, basketball, golf and we probably missed a few. Huge selection of sports team gear from youth to 3X. Almost any team you can think of, they have the shirt, shorts, or hat for you! There's also a nice selection of baseball gloves that my son admired. Simply do not go. These folks are R U D E, especially Jen (if that is even her name). Promised delivery. Lied about it. Promised person stringing tennis racket would call for me to pick the right strings. Their person never did. They handed me the racket back and said it is strung, but we have no idea with what. If you like rude and unreliable, this is your place! BTW, delivery promised was literally across the street at The Hilton. I explained when ordering I could not leave meetings to pick up product. Jen literally said, "if you want you product leave work and come and get it, we are too busy". When I got there, there were 3 or 4 people doing nothing and no customers were in the store. At first I was very impressed with their service, and thought that they were really talking care of me...but boy was I fooled! I even went to the trouble to send the owner a letter in the mail and received no response. I visited the store a couple of weeks before Christmas wanting to purchase a Letterman jacket for my son. The gentleman I worked with was very helpful. He and I went towards the back of your store where he showed me the different sizes and asked me what school my son attended. He proceeded to show me the jacket and I mentioned that I didn't think that was the correct color of blue, he assured me that it was and I took his word, since he was the sporting goods authority. After he helped me decide on a size, we went to the front of the store where he completed a order form. We agreed on a medium sized jacket and he again asked me the high school name. I was so happy to receive the jacket two days before Christmas, and was planning on bringing my son in around his birthday to add the letters, name, etc. to the jacket. My son's birthday is early in January, so it all made sense. I was told by the gentleman at Koch's that if the jacket was too small, my son could return it when we came back to the store with the letters. My son and I returned to the store on December 27th. My son told a different salesman that waited on us that the jacket was a great fit, but that the color was wrong. The salesman assured both my son and I that it was the correct color for his school and proceeded to talk to my son about where he wanted his varsity letter, his name and all the other goodies sewn on. The salesman told us that the jacket would be ready a few days before my son's birthday, so the timing was again great. I picked the jacket up and it really looked beautiful, the color still seemed wrong to me, but I figured since I'm not in the high school, what did I know. My son wanted to wear the jacket to school as soon as I brought it home, and wears it to school on Monday, January 6th. The very first comment he receives is, "Hey what high school do you go to, that's not the right color of our Letterman jacket". He continues to wear it to school and every time is teased by the kids that it's the wrong color. Even my son, who is colorblind, knew it was the wrong color at Koch's. Now we have a $150+ jacket that my son refuses to wear because he is incessantly teased about because it's the wrong damn color. I am so very disappointed in Koch's. You would think if they were questioned about the color of a letterman jacket multiple times they would have verified the color. I feel horrible for my son, and I feel worse about how we were repeatedly dismissed by your staff about the color of the jacket. I know your policy states that there are no returns on letterman jackets, but people in Cincinnati rely on your staff to be the experts, and I have been bamboozled. read more

When Cincinnati has an institution like Koch's at its disposal, it's necessary to praise it. My general affinity for sports combined with my love for Cincinnati, shopping locally, and retail, I have to say that Koch Sports covers all the, er, bases. No pun intended. Location: Koch Sporting Goods is nestled downtown on W. 4th Street between Race and Elm. The store itself is vast (much larger than I expected), but the parking situation isn't what I'd call ideal, which is probably the most negative aspect of the all-around experience of shopping at Koch's. But as soon as you find a place to park, the experience that follows is pretty great. The Place: The store is relatively substantial and filled to the brim with about all of the Cincinnati sports paraphernalia you could want. (And non-Cincinnati sports garb, too, but we will ignore that for the sake of this being a Tour de Cincinnati post.) Koch's boasts a plethora of Reds and Bengals apparel, accessories, and novelty items, as well as items for all ages and sizes. Additionally, Koch's features more than just Reds and Bengals duds, and sells a multitude of local collegiate and semi-pro teams, as well as teams in other regions. But again, we won't go there. Admittedly, there is so much stuff that, if you want to peruse the entire inventory, you need to allow yourself an hour or so to do so. This isn't your average, quick shopping trip, folks, it's also an experience. Et Cetera: I'd been to Koch Sporting Goods as a kid, but unfortunately it had been years since I'd been. It wasn't until I had the bright idea (read: hat tip from @OMGReds) to custom make a Reds soccer jersey for my Reds- and soccer-obsessed boyfriend for his birthday. After obtaining a blank-slate-of-a-jersey elsewhere, I made my way downtown to Koch's to obtain the necessary patches to be sewn onto said jersey. While I was a little disappointed with the relatively small arsenal of patches they had, I was also impressed that they even had any Reds patches to begin with! One of the more memorable parts of this shopping trip was how friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful the worker I was talking with as I made my purchases was. For those who know me, know that it's not uncommon that I have the tendency to get on a conversational tangent with a complete stranger that has nothing to do with anything, really. This particular worker and I shared a talk about sports and our local sports teams, as I vowed to make my way back to Koch Sporting Goods sooner than later. And I meant it. read more

Alot of cool stuff in the store-especially jerseys. I've actually been in the store 4-5 times and usually walk out with a bag in my hand. Here's my only issue-they are located literally a block away from 2 major professional stadiums and are closed on game day Sundays??????? I work and have worked in the sports apparel business for 10+ years now and cannot understand why they couldn't open for a few hours the day of the game-that's leaving a TON of money on the table and in this business you have to make your money when you can make your money. Drove all the way from Canton,Ohio for a Reds game on a Sunday,took a buddy who I told about the store and had cash in hand ready to spend-walk up to the door,see a ton of Reds merchandise and CAN'T purchase a thing because they're taking the day off. I'm sorry I don't care how many ways you slice it,that's a HORRIBLE business decision. Actually spoke to the owner once about it-of course he gets defensive and tells me that the money they would make isn't worth giving all their employees the day off to spend with their families. OK it's your business and you can certainly make whatever kind of decision you want to when dealing with "your" business but at the end of the day,considering the type of business that you're in(please keep that in mind) it's simply a no-brainer to open your doors on game day when you are that close to 2 Pro stadiums and you carry tons of merchandise of both the Reds and the Bengals.
