I would give zero stars if it was possible!! Made an appointment because we had water leaking through the ceiling - went into the attic, located it was coming from the AC coils area and called for help. Rick came out quickly. Upon entering the attic he found fault with our quiet cool set up and drain pipes leading from coils. Then speculated someone bumped the pipe and cracked the pipe at coil fitting (never checked this). Checked the pipes for a clog, found one drain to be somewhat clogged and blew it out but recommended we reach out to a plumber. He did not unscrew the 6 screws to check the drain pan and did not test the system. $195 for his labor and parts. Tried to run AC again in the evening and water started draining again from a new place. After speaking with him on the phone he seemed happy with the work he completed. He did offer to come out again for no charge but said if it was the drain pan it couldn't be replaced and if it was the coils it would be expensive. I opted to not have him back, called another local company, explained the problem. They immediately went into the attic, unscrewed the 6 screws and located a large crack in the drain pan. Problem successfully diagnosed in less than 10 min. I would NEVER recommend this company and feel the $195 charge is a rip off. HVAC is expensive but being charged for mediocre work is more expensive! Mr Koch, as your reply confirms you did an incomplete inspection. This was the whole point of my review, to ensure others would understand your business style. With your continued speculating I feel it necessary to mention... for all I know the drain pan was cracked during your cleaning... We will never be able to determine this as you did a subpar job. read more

A recent email conversation with Rick about improving the filter system in my 18 year old home resulted in an upgrade of the blower motor to an ECM type for more efficient and better air flow. I no longer hear the rumble of the old AC motor in the attic and our temperature throughout the house is more constant. The addition of a smart thermostat gave me an additional air recirculate feature whereby the fan turns on periodically (in between cooling cycles) each hour at half flow which keeps the air filtered and homogenized for more constant house temperature. I have known Rick and Shelly for over 20 years and can assure anyone seeking professional air conditioning work that Koch Heating and Air operates in the most ethical and professional way. As a home service provider myself in another trade, and a DIY person who is rarely inclined to hire anyone else, I fully understand how homeowners who depend on outside home services such as ours are warry of hiring someone they do not know. His wife who helps him is also a very kind women and that also help made me to make a decision with going with them. My home has two AC units. One up stairs and one down. I had to replace both and was dreading the cost. Not going to lie, but 10 to 15 grand on AC units isn't how I want to spend money I don't have. It was February so I wasn't in a hurry here in Murrieta, CA but figured this is the time to work the best deal. I obtained 6 quotes total. Lennox from Costco was tempting with the high end videos the salesman showed me and the price was actually better than I expected. But with those guys, you get a group of kids who have been trained just enough to do their prospective part of the job. In the end I went with Koch Air. He is a one man show with his Wife acting the part of receptionist and I'm guessing every other part of the business. I went with Koch because it was obvious the owner, Rick has been in the AC business for many years. He is a one man show. So what that meant to me was he was the only guy touching every single part of the AC system install. So why did I care about having only one expert touching everything in my house. Well, one example is the two units that I currently had. I had a 5 ton and a 2.5 ton unit. Rick looked at the set up and told me I was wasting money and energy on a 5 ton. He explained that often times a new housing development will slap in the same units for every house regardless of what was really needed because it was cheaper for them. He suggested I put in two 3 ton units and with his modifications, I would save money in the long term electrical bills. Long story short, he was dead on. My electrical bill has dropped dramatically every month. All the other companies I obtained bids from said pretty much the same thing.... "I would just go with what you currently have, since you know it works." Besides installing two new AC units, I had one bedroom that was always an oven in the summer. Rick quickly pointed out the problem with the original install that caused this and offered a solution that didn't break the bank. (They tried to run a 60 foot line with only a 8 inch duct line.) Long story short, as the weather is starting to warm up, I have two new AC units that work perfectly, consistent cool temperatures throughout the house and the bedroom that was always an oven is now just as cool as the other rooms. Koch AC was one of the lowest bids I received. This had a large part in my decision making. But now that the work has been done, I can honestly say I would have paid more for his service. Sometimes you get what you paid for. But with Koch AC, you get an honest and truly experienced AC guy who will resolve whatever your AC problem is. So if you are comparing quotes, make sure you ask yourself if the few hundred dollar difference was REALLY worth it. Especially when you average out those few hundred dollars over the many years of hassle free AC you will be enjoying. read more

Man, where do I start! Rick and Shelly are great! This is how the construction industry should operate. For starters Shelly is a breathe of fresh air on the phone. You don't hear a cheerful, lively voice from HVAC companies or service companies for that matter anymore. I called on a Saturday morning with a little bit of an emergency and Rick showed up 20 minutes later. He was super friendly and a super honest guy. Took him about 15 minutes to figure out what was wrong with our A/C unit and fixed it at a very fair, honest and reasonable price. Was he the cheapest, probably not. Great experience! Appointment was set between 1-3pm and he called to see if he could be here early!!! When does that happen? He showed up, diagnosed the problem quickly, and had it repaired within a few minutes! The longest part of the process was getting the approval for the repairs through the property management/owner. Although I wasn't paying for the repairs as we are just the tenants....the price seemed reasonable and he seemed like an honest man. I love Koch - they are a family owned business and not only are they fairly priced they're very ethical. They fixed my air conditioner once when I moved into my new home in 2008, rats had eaten all the wires outside. Rick showed me what had to be done and his quote was very affordable. Then eight years later he came out and replaced a part and once again for a fair price and my AC has been running great ever since, even in this heat. Yesterday my mom had a problem with her AC and "We Care" came out replaced a capacitor and the AC seized later that evening. My mom is on social security and she can't afford a lot. They gave her a quote to replace and clean the blower motor, and I felt the quote was very high. I called Koch and Rick came out and fixed the AC for half a of what they quoted "We Care" aren't anything like their name claims. Koch on the other hand is friendly, honest and fair! He is ethical, professional, tells us how we can save money, has helped friends of ours fix a problem over the phone, etc. He's the BEST. If it's an "emergency" (the air goes out and it's 105 degrees outside) Rick does everything in his power to get your system up and running quickly. And you won't find a nicer person to deal with than his wife, Shelly. We can't say enough good things about both of them! UPDATE: Since I posted this review, we actually had a serious air conditioning emergency. It was during the heat wave we recently had (it was about 112 degrees here). We had a house full of relatives and, of course, our system DIED. There was no saving it (it was about 15 years old). Rick pulled all kinds of strings to get us a new system and install it within two business days. We have a complicated system and this was not an easy job.
