There were small groups of friends doing crafts together, a big group crafting for someone's birthday party (they brought cookies and cake and two humongous pizzas; this place allows you to bring your own food and snacks which is so cool!), and an outdoor area in back as well where my group and I hung out. They have feminine hygiene products available in the restroom for those who are in need. They've also got a jar of gigantic Kirkland dog biscuits which I didn't know existed but my dog absolutely loved them so thank you crafts and drafts! Definitely recommend this place as a fun and chill spot to hang out with friends.

Can't wait to go back and work on something else!

They offer many types of classes to try and have local artists working on site. There are beautiful pieces for sale in the store. I chatted with the owner for a bit and enjoyed hearing how she started the business and was a former educator. This is a rare find and I recommend checking it out. The artists will work with you and ship items if interested. I enjoyed my visit here and had a tough time deciding on an item but could not resist a beautiful piece of stained glass.

Each one of our group of 5 picked out ahead of time which Star Wars character we wanted to create. Your choices were a Light Saber, Darth Vader, Grogu (Baby Yoda), or Boba Fett. Then when we arrived at class the pieces for each character were beautifully pre-cut by Sarah and ready to assemble. The assembly process involved several steps including cleaning the glass first, then applying metal tape, then soldering, cleaning, etc. Lila was our wonderful and very patient instructor and she was awesome ! She provided safety gloves and explained everything to all of us first timers doing this and answered any and all questions. When needed she provided hands on assistance to make sure everyone's piece came out great ! There was no rushing, great music playing in the background, lots of fun and overall a really great time! We definitely plan on returning for future arts and crafts classes at this great place and people!

Explore some art in various forms; maybe meet one of the artists, be inspired by the creativity…read more Joyful Jewel is a place to explore. Although exploration is probably a good enough reason to visit a store like this, I found myself here while a few of the artists with works displayed were having a conversation about their work, the setup and displays. That was a pretty eye-opening experience: they're just like everyone else. Who'd have thought? For the detail and work involved in some of this work, the prices were consistent with the area. If you love original art and fine crafts and are living or visiting the Triangle area of North…read moreCarolina, then downtown Pittsboro, and The Joyful Jewel need to be on your #mustvisit list. It's about a 40 minute drive from downtown Raleigh NC without traffic, but only 25 minutes from Chapel Hill or downtown Apex, NC. Any direction you drive to Pittsboro from you cross beautiful country side, forests, hills and rivers, and coming from the East, (Apex, Cary, Holly Springs, Fuquay Varina), you're in real luck, you get to cross over Jordan Lake twice. Pittsboro retains its small town USA feel, and the Joyful Jewel is just across the street from the historic Chatham County Courthouse which houses a historical museum open 2 - 3 times a week. But the Joyful Jewel is open 7 days a week. I have visited hundreds of times over the 12 years I have been living in central North Carolina because I so enjoy walking about the store, as if it were a museum, and taking in the colors, imagination, creativity and inspiration. Artists take turns in the store, so you get to meet an artist whose work is there. Mariah Wheeler is the owner, with her husband DG Chandler. Both are jewelers, but work in other forms as well. The affordability of art and fine crafts is one of the best discoveries for me, making a visit to the Joyful Jewel even better than a museum, since I may be able to take home the piece of art that really speaks to me. And if you're looking to learn more about local artists, Mariah is very well connected, not only to artist who paint, and potters, and glass artists, but also local writers, poets and musicians. Discover Pittsboro and definitely visit the Joyful Jewel.

I wanted to convert a vintage bag chain into a necklace, but was struggling to find proper hardware…read morethat would look good with the chain. (Ex. Size, color, plating) I had checked craft shops and stores, but couldn't find anything that was a good match. Earlier during a quick trip to Chapel Hill, I remembered this shop was in the same mall as Mulberry Silks and we decided to stop in during our next visit. It's kind of across from Mulberry Silks and is near a ladies boutique and the CBD cafe. The shop offers jewelry making tools, beads, closures, and some pre-made items as well. There is a small workspace where you can make jewelry there and I suspect that they may hold workshops or classes from time to time. (There are signs saying that the staff could also try to design/help create custom jewelry pieces for customers if they are interested.) I believe we've run into the owner both times I've gone in and she's usually working on something but will look up and greet customers. If they have questions, she is happy to help. I like that there are closures and jewelry parts available that are 18 KT plated gold, and in addition, there are some gold filled ones as well. We did ask the owner to take a look at our chain to see what size of the 18 KT plated closures would fit or suit the chain we brought best. She pointed out two sizes and felt we could go either way. We didn't have the proper tools at home to install the hardware onto the chain, so the owner was gracious to let us use the workspace and tools to attach the hardware to the chain. Prices for the hardware were reasonable. Also I appreciated that she had the workspace available for us to utilize when we needed the correct tools to add them to the chain. With regard to parking, it can be a toss up. There are a few surface lots you can park in, but one of them is shared with Harris Teeter and can get full.

Have driven past this place countless times and have always been intrigued by the eclectic nature I…read morecould see. Today, finally while driving past u saw that the open sign was on so I decided to make a quick stop and check it out. While I had a sort of strange and short experience I'll start with what I saw. Full of trinkets and a variety of items, it seems like a fantastic little spot to explore. The interior was not large, a small little shop likely food for a handful of people at a time, packed with things ranging from fun dishes, records, clothing, and random knickknacks. There was a little library outside along with larger pieces like statues and even some art pieces inside. Now I would love to go back and properly explore, get a better gauge of the pricing as well, but the reason I said "seems" earlier is that when I arrived, the lights were on, open sign was on, door was open. I walked in and there was some radio playing. But not a single person in sight, mind you it's a small space. I said "hello" a few times, stood there in plain view in case anybody walked out (last thing I wanted was to spook somebody on accident being behind a shelf or anything), and heard no response. I stood there a couple minutes, just looking around, but was a tad uncomfortable, not due to the place just the situation, and thus decided to leave and come back another time to more properly explore this space that seemed like a blend of an antique store and a child's playhouse. At least I now know their hours so I'll try again soon!
