Created our own bowls of YUMMAYYYYY!
Kristine Z.

Friendly staff, generous portions, and high quality shaved ice! The small tables and chairs outside the order window is a genius idea because we couldn't wait until we got to the car to eat our bowls of Hawaiian deliciousness.

Taro Twist with ube syrup instead of banana. Delicious.
Kate K.

It was my first visit and the staff were very friendly while I perused the menu and answered all of my questions! I ended up deciding on the taro Twist but subbing ube syrup instead of banana. While the menu price is for the large size, you can also order the signature menu items in a small, which I did. The shaved ice was delicious! I walked over to the location and although they do have a few tables and seats outside I decided to walk home. Unfortunately the bowls are not the sturdiest and I ended up losing about a quarter of my shaved ice when the bowl collapsed in my hands and created a landslide. So maybe eat your ice there, or hold gently in both hands. This is definitely not a walk-and-eat kind of dish. Even losing a bunch to the sidewalk, the small bowl was still big enough to filling and very good. I will be back!

Shave Ice- Hawaiian Dream and Tigers Blood Keiki size
Rachel B.

Stopped by today because I was craving something cold and it did not disappoint! I got a Keiki size with Tiger's Blood and Hawaiian Dream; such a perfect combo for a hot day. The ice was super soft and fluffy, and they added just the right amount of syrup (not too sweet, not too light). Definitely hit the spot. I'll for sure be coming back!

Such a sweet spot! The place itself is small, but there are a few tables outside to sit. They have a nice variety of flavors and add ons and their portions are generous. The staff is also very friendly and helpful, would definitely come back for more!

Full bold flavored syrups/juices and the softest shave ice in SoCal. At least from what I've tried. They make the mochi in house too. Can't wait to go back, I tried POG, melon and cracked with coconut cream and mango condensed milk. They also have li hing mui powder you can add in top. Will definitely be back.

Custom with Lychee & Strawberry flavor syrup with added strawberries

Extremely friendly service with incredible shaved ice! As of now they are my top place to grab some shaved ice. They're in the corner of Walnut & Wardlow with a cute ambiance to it so you won't miss it.

My fave local Hawaiian shaved ice stand! So many delicious and unique flavors. You can customize your own or order one of their creations- you can't go wrong either way. The people working are always super friendly! I feel like I'm part of their ohana haha. A couple of tables for seating but you won't be sitting down for long with how fast you'll devour your shaved ice!

Pop up style Hawaiian shaved ice in the heart of Long Beach. I try to make a stop here after work or whenever I can to try one of their signature flavors. Hand shaved and crafted, it will be a wait but always worth it. They are always happy to help with recommendations and always connect with customers. I can't wait until they get a location to permanently set up shop.

MangoBerry bowl

Being so close to my house I had to try this Hawaiian shaved ice spot! Located on the corner of Walnut Ave and Wardlow Rd, and connected to an eyebrow salon, KoaKai Shave Ice is open during the afternoon most days and serves right outside of their window. With Hawaiian music playing softly from a Bluetooth speaker disguised as a rock, and 3 folding chairs on the corner, you're transported to Hawaii (minus the beach, palm trees, and $800 plane ticket). On to my 3-tier review! Quality: A+ The shaved ice is light, almost like fresh snow. The ingredients tasted like fresh puréed fruits and the condensed milk gives it that creamy sweet finish that defines Hawaiian shaved ice. Today we tried the MangoBerry, Kona coffee, PunchBerry, and Tropical Breeze bowls. The fruity bowls were exactly as I described with fresh fruit puree sauces and condensed milk with little popping boba & fresh sliced fruits adorning the rim. The Kona coffee bowl was very good too with a scoop of vanilla ice cream at the bottom. I'd compare it to like having a McDonald's McCafe Coffee in shaved ice form. Very sweet, very coffee (if that makes sense). The quality of ingredients is on par with some of the best shaved ice that I've had in Hawaii. Price: B The MangoBerry bowl was the most expensive item on the menu at $10.50. Other bowls ranged between $8-10. The amount of shaved ice is about right if it was $8, but for $10.50 I expected a smidge more. Maybe it's inflation but $11 for shaved ice seems steep to me. Service: A Like I said, it's just a window and the person working the cashier, so service is solely judged on my interaction with the employee and the time we waited. We were greeted very warmly and given plenty of time to decide without feeling rushed. After putting in our order they asked if we had a punchcard, which we didn't, so they gladly gave us one and stamped 4 orders out. 4 more and we get a free bowl! I love loyalty programs and ones that are actually attainable. The only criticism I give is the wait time. Not sure if a 10-15min wait for shaved ice is normal, but maybe because they were shaving the ice fresh? As we waited the line grew to about 8 people, so I hope they sped up the process to meet the demands. Overall a pleasurable customer service experience. Overall: A With high quality ingredients and excellent customer service, KoaKai Shaved Ice delivers Hawaii to you in a small bowl of ice cold creamy-fruity goodness. The price might make you take a second look being a couple dollars more than you'd expect, but it beats paying for an $800 plane ticket to Hawaii! So why not have a little taste of Hawaii without leaving California? Mahalo KoaKai! I highly recommend ya!

Blue Coconut Dream, Li-Hing and my cute husband
Shanda C.

2nd review for KoaKai. It's been a few months. And, look (pics), I ended up getting the same thing, because the first Blue Coconut Dream was still lingering in my fond memories. They also let me try their Matcha Chocolate Strawberries! Yum. Hubby ordered a Li-Hing and really liked his. I'm so happy to see this sweet couple is going strong with their small businesses and wish them well. Though they are a walk-up window, they've added a few places to sit outside to enjoy their fluffy creations since my last visit. Get there early, as their hours are limited and flavors run out. We were lucky to sneak in right before they packed up, and were able to catch their smiling faces serving up a quality product right up til the end.

Yumminess!
Laura D.

Hot chocolate too! KoaKai you are outdoing yourself. It was amazing! Hubby brought it home, so not sure what kind it is. My guess is cookies and marshmallows.

3 Regular sized (POG Bliss top left, [Matcha, Melona, Blue Hawaii] middle right, [Mango, Lilikoi, & Blue Hawaii] bottom)

This shave ice really reminds me of the shave ice from Hawai'i! A family business, staff was very friendly and accommodating! They serve large portions for regular size, definitely worth the visit. I hope they expand to a store because I'll be back!

Guava Bliss
Amy M.

This is such a great hidden local gem. The staff is friendly and helpful. The menus is pretty straight forward and everything looks good (have yet to try all the flavors ). It's outdoor and small but perfect for a sweet treat. The area is clean with a small stand with utensils and water with some seating. They have two sizes but the small is DEFINITELY a good portion (I got the large and could barely finish it). They have seasonal flavors in which I got the guava flavor and it's SO delicious. Pricing is pretty fair and varies depending on what you're getting. Overall I'd recommend this place since it's super kid friendly.

Are you open tomorrow and Wednesday this week? Hours?

Yes! We’ll be open Tuesday and Wednesday with our regular hours, 3:00 PM–7:00 PM. Hope you can stop by!

Hi Carla! We’re actually a small family-run pop-up, not a full-time storefront. That means our schedule changes week to week depending on events and availability. Sometimes we’re booked for catering, and other times we pop up in Long Beach for the…

We also accidentally ordered our niece's soft serve in a cup instead of a cone. When I mentioned it, they kindly made us a new one in a cone at no extra charge, which was really appreciated. The customer in front of us was also confused about his pickup order, and the staff handled it politely and professionally. Overall, the service was excellent! This time (yesterday), however, was not nearly the same experience. First of all, I realized we couldn't book a table for 8 people, so me and my friends book 2 tables for 8.30PM. I called asking if it's possible to put our tables together close or side by side, they said they will try their best. We all showed up at 8.30 and waited until around 9-9.15 because they only had 1 table ready. Ok. Come the time the other table opened and it's not even that close to each other. But it's okay, I respect the limitations on this part. No one came to us to take our order or even give us water until way later, and we got our drinks at 9.45. Another critique is that my friend called and ask how much corkage fee and they said $25. It turned out to be $40. Another disappointment, but it's ok. Not much can be done bout that part. Next thing is the food. We enjoyed the fried green beans. Crudo was really really salty, and it's not only 1 person thought that. We wondered if the kitchen mistakenly salted the fish twice. We enjoyed the peach salad. We ordered a few different pasta and the tagliatelle in particular was disappointing. It really lacked flavor that we had to mix the other pasta dish sauce to it. The pork plate was good, a bit small but we enjoyed it. Now the mussles and frites were disappointing too. The sauce just didn't do it for me (other friends agreed). I always talked really highly about Nonna Mercato (I also enjoyed the brunch so much) and always told people that this is one of my most favorite restaurants in Long Beach, but this one really missed the mark for me and my friends. I don't know if this would make us want to go to Summer Nights again next time. For $130 per person (after tax, tip, and corkage fees), I definitely hoped for a much better experience.

Went with the ube and a white chocolate macadamia. Of course both were delicious. One major caveat though-you MUST get them warmed up. Last time I had their cookies they were warm and I fell in love. This time I thought I would eat it later so I declined. Well, of course once I got the cookies in my mitts I had to have a bite or two. Initially, I was completely disappointed, and thought this can't be right. I was going to ask the friendly staff if they could warm it up, but that seemed weird since I had already broken off a couple of bites. Took my ube home, quick 15 second warm up and it was back to perfection. Rookie mistake on my part and I won't do it again. While I was in the store I nearly ended up buying a load of cute items, that I thought I absolutely must have. Showed some restraint, but I can't guarantee I will be able to again.
