It is hard to put into words what I liked so much about this little neighborhood spot. I think it…read morewas the fact that it felt like I was going over to a friend's house for dinner. The fact that it was small and cozy created an intimate atmosphere. The lighting added to the intimacy making it a warm, serene refuge on a cold night. Being waited on by one of the two friendly people working the small dining area added to the aura. It made the experience more personalized, like we just walked into his house and he asked what he could get us from his kitchen to eat. "Come in, sit down for a while, warm up and let me get you something to eat and drink". It was as though the people there were having a relaxed, pleasant evening together and we were invited to join. The location also had something to do with the appeal as well. This was our first visit to city centre Delft. The narrow streets that lined canals replete with strategic lighting made this brick-laden city an absolute delight to wander. As an American, this place presented an ambiance unlike what we'd see at home. It was a step back in time in time and a step into everyday Dutch life. This somewhat off-the-radar city offers the type of character that you hope to experience as part of your travels. We visited at around 8 PM on a Monday. It was not at all busy and we were able to find a seat with no problem. The ambiance, as suggested above, was very inviting and quite relaxed. The menu for this restaurant was short but featured several creative choices with local twists (in different ways). My wife chose the Goat Cheese Salad, which featured a plentiful serving with nice greens along with other vegetables and nice add-ins such as pecans. I opted for the Indonesian-inspired Chicken Satay, which was served with fries and salad. Again, the serving was more than enough. We both were very happy with our dinners. My wife enjoyed a homemade lemonade to drink while I was quite satisfied with one of their red wines (Corte Ortone Brindisi). The final bill was €57.50, or €28.75 per person. Given the quality of the food and the overall experience, I thought this was a reasonable value. I would definitely try this place again if we return to Delft.

But when something comes along that is truly outstanding I must share it. What a delight! Service was incredible, attentive and friendly. Superb and personalized! The freshly made bread that came out of the oven with three different spreads was a wonderful start. I particularly enjoyed the sweetbreads as an "in between courses" delight. The pallet cleansing sorbet that was provided as a surprise was delicious. I highly recommend the lamb done two ways, just incredible! When we come back to Delft we will surely return.

Beautiful little restaurant in Delft. My husband and I came here a few days after New Years and the…read morerestaurant was empty, we had a private restaurant, waiter and chef. I think this is incredibly rare as typically you need to book a reservation weeks in advance - usually they cannot accommodate walk ins. A cool little fact about Mattie's is they buy all their groceries from local establishments. They get the fish from the fish market down the street, the bread from the bakery down the street and their cheese from the cheese store in the main square. And all their ingredients are incredibly fresh! The bread - they get it half baked from the local bakery, so when you order it, it is hot and fresh out of the oven. There is a charge for the bread, but it's totally worth it if you like delicious fresh bread! They also make a two different house spreads (butter with something), I forget exactly what they were, but both were delicious. I ordered off the prix fixe menu while my husband ordered off the regular menu. Since Delft is known for how incredibly fresh their fish and seafood is, we got several seafood dishes. Prawns Aioli €9.90 - amazing! Perfectly cooked, great flavors, very fresh and delicious. Crab appetizer - very generous portion of crab, has some kind of sauce as well. A cold dish, but very flavorful and LOTs of tender, fresh crab. Fresh Dover Sole €36.95 - apparently this is a relatively rare type of fish, the restaurant gets it fresh from the market daily, if they do not sell the fish, they return to market as they only use the freshest fish. You get an entire white fish (pretty meaty), as well as a few sides. The flavor and preparation of this was absolutely perfect! It's a little on the pricier side, but we did not regret trying it! They gave in between course palate cleansers which were incredibly delicious! Dessert is a MUST try, their apple pie is very unique and unlike any apple pie I've ever had before. I don't typically like or eat apple pie, but this one was so good. We also got the Dutch cookies - amazing texture of Bitter cookies, presentation was beautiful and everything on the plate tasted delicious! Overall, my husband and I LOVED Matties, the service was great! The food was superb! We were not disappointed by any dish we received. Would definitely come back here again and recommend this place to others!

Pancake craving drew me to this place in the Delft market…read more Food: 3.5 stars. Ordered fritter snack appetizer, bacon pancake, tap beer, and jenever (local gin-like alcohol). Fritter appetizer was tasty and a good value (11 euro for 16 piece). Pancake was good but left something to be desired. Tap Wieckse beer was good. Jenever was too bitter/strong for my taste. Service: 5 stars. Waitress was extremely friendly. She provided pancake/beer recommendations and even helped me charge my dying phone! Bottom Line: Good meal & solid service, but pancakes were not the best I've had. Probably would return if in Delft though.

Outside seating with heaters make this place a great people watching experience with the comfort of warmth. The atmosphere is like a tavern with small quarters, but watch your step because it has levels to it, not clearly marked especially if you aren't paying attention or had one too many of the local beer Palm or Heinken. Pancakes!!! This place has a variety of pancakes ranging from cherry, banana, and for the bacon lovers, they have bacon pancakes. All fruit or meat are infused into the pancake. Worth a try. The staff is friendly when I was there and they have wifi, but you must ask the server for the password. 11Nov2012, was the code when I was there, but double check with the server.

However, when we tried this place, I was super surprised! Red Jedjeki was packed on a Wednesday evening. We didn't have reservations, but we were fortunate the sweet lady found a place for us to sit. I must say, this is hands down the best Indonesian food in the world! We ordered the menu for 2 people. A mixture of different dishes. Their side nasi goreng is ok, but everything else we had was so heavenly. I especially enjoyed their beef stew, sprouts with peanut sauce, picked cucumbers and carrots, green beans and boiled egg with a red sauce on top. Now, if you can tell me where else they have Indonesian food like Redjeki's, then please do share and I'll take a trip out there! Thank you guys for an awesome experience. We did have left overs and had it for lunch today. Well done to the lady and gentlemen who worked at Redjeki last night. We had a wonderful experience! It's worth the 5 stars. This is the place to visit if you want to try some Indonesian food in the Netherlands! Plus, Delft is such a cute town!
