We had a reservation for 9 p.m. The server told us about a three-course menu where you can choose an appetizer, main course, and dessert for €35 per person. It sounded perfect, so we went with that. The fondue was amazing--generous servings and truly delicious. We couldn't even finish the main course because we wanted to save room for dessert. When dessert came, it was around 10 p.m, when the restaurant closes. No other guests had arrived after us, and the tables that were occupied before us were leaving, so we ended up being the last table. The server started cleaning up and resetting the tables, bringing in the outdoor signs, etc. It started to feel like we were being rushed out, which made us uncomfortable. When we asked for the bill, we noticed that "Tip not included" was circled at the bottom. I thought this was odd for Europe, as tipping isn't generally expected unless the service is exceptional. I ignored it, but when the server brought the card machine, he directly asked how much I wanted to pay. I immediately felt pressured to leave a tip, even though I didn't want to due to the rushed experience. I ended up tipping regretfully. The restaurant closes at 10 p.m., and our reservation was at 9 p.m. You are able to make reservations online until 9:45 p.m., so it doesn't seem fair to expect a table to leave in just an hour, especially when ordering a three-course meal and a bottle of wine. We were practically chugging the wine at the end. It was not a great dining experience, and I still feel uneasy about it. Just really not an experience you want to have when trying to have an enjoyable dinner. Quite a shame since the food was very good.

This venue supported our event very well and served us free snacks while we talked the night away. They have a large selection of beers - it took me a while to choose - and the bartenders are friendly, humorous people. Without the people from CouchSurfing there the venue would be nearly empty, but it is a Tuesday night in the Netherlands (with the exception of Amsterdam), which says enough. The atmosphere was good, partly because of the bar, partly because of the internationals. All things considered on this random Tuesday in March, The Haagse Bluf is a good place to spend the evening.

They literally brought out an oven for the Raclette, which came out with a variety of cold cuts, and you'd put the cheese on a pan to essentially heat it up. In't Goede Uur is possibly one of the oldest restaurants in Haarlem. It looks really cose and nice inside, little bit like any old cafe you would go to in Belgium. There are small sitting corners downstairs and some tables upstairs. On our first visit there we just had some wine with cheese platter, but we will definitely come back for one of their specialties - cheese fondue. If you ever have a big group joining you for dinner or you would like to organize a family or cooking event you can always rent/ use their other venue/ space (very modern) for that occassion.
