Can't say enough great things about Knotted Root. Sure, there are other breweries in town, but the quality of beers here are amazing! I've been coming for years but always see new things. Bartenders are so friendly and if you come when it's slow, are great to talk beer with. They have a large open and colorful taproom that allows dogs! Lots of great beer choices, and they specialize in hoppy IPA's. They also had a Pilsner and my favorite, their Sour Goo series. I loved my Cherry goo and it was a perfect drink after wandering around downtown. Head over here on your visit to Ned and you'll love it! Food trucks and snacks here too. read more

This is the place to go after a great hike! Their selection of home brews is pretty stellar. Spectra Colors? Thick Mélange goo? One Million Dollars....Welp Yes Please!!! Very chill ambiance with live Dead playing in the background. Nice service and chill clientele. Try the pretzels they are addictively good: Especially the chilli lime. HAZY IPA CENTRAL Attention all beer lovers, you need to make a stop to this... humble - lowkey - good ole - super delicious - hilariously named beers - brewery. They have other beers than just hazy ipas. Actually, they had over a dozen beers on draft ranging from hazy ipas, sours, lagers and seasonals. I think anyone could find a beer they'd like here. The atmosphere is very chill. There's sitting inside and outside. Picnic table vibes with a rotating food truck if you're looking to eat. The service was great. Super friendly bartender who allowed us to try any beer before ordering a full pint. I appreciate when places do this because beers are so unique. Lagers, hazy ipas, sours, ales, etc. are different depending on hops that it is nice to try a little taster before having to fully comment, ya know? We will definitely go back again! read more

Love this brewery - always like trying a different "goo". I got the juice box goo this time which is slightly tart and a beautiful color, but not as gooey/thick as others. My only gripe is the price is a little steep but this is dang good beer. Not one, but two random individuals recommended this little brewery located in the quirky town of Nederland. Ned is located ~25 minutes west of Boulder through a canyon that terminates into the small mountain town. The brewery is on the outskirts of the main drag. Rolling into the taproom, one feels as if they are entering a cozy living room of a log cabin. Their tap menu consisted mainly of "unfiltered" IPA's which are likely available in cans for take out. Trust, you're going to want to grab some of those on your way out, especially after sipping on this holy and golden liquid. Perpetual Patience, an unfiltered double dry hopped IPA, had me shedding tears of pure, undiluted joy. Those Nectaron hops had this beer BURSTING with flavor; the hops were all but dancing on my tongue. Fresh to death, juicy, but with an ever present dankness. One of a kind. Insert more hyperbole here. Such a feeling was the case with their Vapor Clouds (grassy and dry) and the Formless Void (traditionally bitter w/ them Riwaka hops), as well. I'm glad the locals of Colorado led us true through the wilderness of the Colorado mountains to such a gem! 100% worth the drive. We even took the scenic route through the mountains back down to Denver. The scenery was truly unsurpassed. Such a special little place that is sure to capture your heart and mind. read more

Yes! I am so happy to give out five stars for this one! For Knotted Root I had their Egg In A Hole beer. This beer is a dry hopped IPA which was fantastic! Two summers ago I did get burned out on IPA'S so haven't been getting them as much but the IPA had with brewery was a nice return to have! Maybe it's because the beer has dry hops for it's ingredients which I do love dry hops in ciders and beers! Egg In A Hole was also unfiltered which made it different slightly but was an asset to this beer. This brewery holds other promising beer options and while Nederland is fine throughout the year Frozen Dead Guy Days is around the corner in March and nothing is better than seeing this small towns quirkiness at full strength and then warming up with Knotted Roots beers hopefully with a good dose of people watching in the process! read more

This place just makes great beer. They change things up pretty often, so don't get too attached, but also this means you get to try lots of great new brews. Excited to live near this one. Oh, and they don't serve food, but they do host food trucks sometimes. This is good. You do need to be prepared to pay a little more here. (e.g. ~$9 for 12 oz), but it's nice for a treat. This was our first time up here. We came with friends for the afternoon. Totally worth the drive. Their brewer is very creative. The staff was friendly. My hubby and I shared a flight of eight. Sunken Caves and Ca Phe Da were my favorites for the day. Lots of unfiltered beers. The music inside was not good for conversation so we moved outside. It was dog friendly. My girlfriend and I love this brewery so much. We make it a priority to stop by after skiing Eldora during the winters and camping during the summers. We even drive up from Boulder just to grab one of their many phenomenal hazy IPAs. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, and still humble after being rated a top 25 microbrewery in the US. They occasionally have food trucks that are always on point. The vibes in the taproom itself are laid back and clean. All the people you meet are super friendly and interesting and give good recommendations of other good spots in Nederland. Nederland is a drive from Denver, but so worth the drive. When you walk in, you must order your beer before sitting. The line is at the end of the bar next to cooler. The atmosphere is eclectic with a cabin feel. Kind of like a dog kennel inside with dogs roaming around. Beware if you are afraid of dogs. There is indoor and outside seating. This was our first time here - and first time having these beers! Good sized tasting room, with a large open door at one end with barrel tables and chairs (where we sat). Having not experienced the beers before - we went with tasters of the whole menu. The thick juicy juice goo and purple paste were my favorites - but really you can't go wrong with any of their beers. Staff were super friendly, and there was a pretty steady flow of people in and out (but still plenty of room for people to sit and enjoy their brews!) We will definitely be back! read more

My friends got lost in a recent mountain bike trip. They ended up coming out of the woods not too far from this bar. They dropped a pin and asked me to shuttle them back to their car. We ordered a beer and enjoyed it outside on their patio area and laughed about the outcome of the days events. I tried several of their beers, but my favorite was the strawberry goo. A slightly sour Berliner-Weiss made with fresh strawberries. Not too sweet, not too sour, just right. The bar tender was kind and welcoming and everyone enjoyed their post-ride brews. read more

I was pleased to see that this place is still in business nearly a year after my last visit. They are open during the COVID era for beer to-go: you can select from a selection of crowlers or 4-packs. I opted for the 4-packs since I've given up drinking DIPAs a while back and that's all they were offering for crowlers. I picked up two 4-packs for the road to share with some friends over the weekend. While still not my favorite beer in the Denver region, I continue to love Knotted Root's devotion to the craft of brewing hazy IPA, and their constantly rotating selections keep you guessing. Atmosphere was odd, half industrial / open-air, half coffee shop. Beer is extremely various, I tried a flight and enjoyed everything but the "mellow yellow" which tasted like candy (sweeter than the soda it is named after). My favorite beers were Blue Light Rain and vapor clouds, and they were good enough to be staples. The Blue Light Rain was very German, reminded me of Bitburger or etc. but perhaps even better. Vapor Clouds was complex, but at the end of the day was a delicious & refreshing IPA. They were very busy but the service was ok, they answered a question from me about one of the beers. My first review was deleted for not being thorough enough, so be it. I can do better. After having one drink at another bar, myself and two women went into this bar, where I have been many times. I had heard something from the owner, Chris Marchio's former roommate about him being sexually inappropriate with her, but honestly, I didn't think much of it. Fast forward a few months later and I've been in this place many times, never noticed anything out of the ordinary, and the beer is delicious. So I bring the girl I'm dating, and her friend to Knotted Root. Our first beer was poured by the female bartender. Our second drinks were poured by Chris, my date ended up giving it back, and ordering something else from the female. Soon after my date commented about how fucked up the two of us were. We ended up leaving soon after, and Chris followed us out to the parking lot asking my date why she didn't say goodbye. I didn't know this at the time, but he had been making my date feel very uncomfortable with his creepy behavior/inappropriate questions all night. He was asking things like "who drove?" "How well do you know that guy?" "Do you trust him?" Invasive, creepy questions given what happened next... Both myself and the other girl who drank the beer poured by the owner were passed out for more than 12 hours after only having a few beers. We both woke up disoriented, and feeling the worst hangover in living memory. I had a total of 4-5 beers over several hours. And when I woke up the next morning, I was more confused and disoriented that I've ever been. And I have no memory of at least the last hour of the night. It took me awhile to put it all together, but I'm fairly certain that whatever I was given, I got there. Even if that is not the case, I would suggest extreme caution around your drinks, and suspicion of Chris and his intentions. I've asked around about him a lot, and it is very difficult to find anyone who has anything good to say about him - except that he makes good beer. I contacted the former roommate later, and asked her if she thought he was capable of something like this - her answer made my blood run cold. She since related a story to me that is even worse than this one. I have filed a police report as the result of this incident, and it is being investigated. read more

A bunch of IPAs that have very few nuances amongst them. Fruit beers taste all pretty similar too... Too much lactose. Have had a few staff try to charge me double at least twice. And at least one employee, so insulting, he's lucky I wasn't waiting for him at close. I got bad vibes when they opened. Just something not quite right, and now after seeing a review on here, looks like the gut doesn't lie.
