When I became interested in renovating and modernizing my bathroom, I reached out to numerous design and build firms. I got detailed quotes from 4 different firms, while Knockout Renovation didn't provide the cheapest quote, it was very competitive and I felt most comfortable proceeding with them. Both June and Keith have been great to work with and they helped me make the best of my space and proposed designs that fit my needs and aligned with what was important to me. The approval from the co-op board was a struggle and I had to negotiate on some matters with the board. This added significant delays to the work start date and I didn't get approval for everything I wanted. The delays threw some of my plans off. While these delays weren't coming from Knockout, rather from the co-op board, my feedback to Knockout would be to keep track of the average time co-op boards take to approve bathroom renovations and set expectations with clients accordingly. Once the project was finally started, Knockout Renovation delivered on the actual demolition and reconstruction work on time and made sure everything was completed to my satisfaction. My sister-in-law hired Knockout to renovate her co-op in Tudor City around 2017. She had many problems with them. Covid hit in 2020 so any and all work stopped. She passed away in June of 2020 so the reno became my husbands problem. He was asked to pre-pay $20K so they could get the materials ordered once permits were given and the ban on doing reno's was removed. In the meantime, another person was interested in buying the co-op and agreed to finish the reno. Knockout told my husband that the money was gone and they would pay him back sending checks every 2-3 months until the debt was paid off. To this date, they have returned about $5K and we have not seen a check in over a year. My husband gets the runaround whenever he try's to contact them. Net bottom line after 7 years there are open permits going back into 2018 at NYC DOB and one with Keith and Knockout name that have NEVER been closed. And now I have 13 Electrical violations to the electrical work done 7 years ago by Knockout subs that needs to be still remediated!!! Poor response by sub. Talk about a renovation with low-quality of electrical work and safety issues to live with even now in 2026!! Nightmare never ends. A very late apology, but saying 'we thought it was closed' is the core problem -- a licensed GC's name stays on the permit until it's verified closed, and that verification process never happened for 7+ years. The 13 open electrical violations and accumulated DOB fines are the direct result. Resolution would be great, but to date that hasn't materialized for the most important act that any GC undertakes during renovations i.e. permitting and city building code approvals. read more

Please be warned. If you value your safety and your home, stay far away from this company. We hired Knockout Renovation for a sauna and bathroom remodel, and the results were dangerously bad. We brought in an independent sauna expert after seeing major issues, and he immediately said everything had been done wrong and that the sauna was unsafe to use. He literally laughed at the workmanship and called it one of the worst, most serious mistakes he'd seen in sauna construction. The craftsmanship throughout was careless and unsafe. We had to intervene repeatedly to stop Knockout from making more mistakes. Even the project management was so bad we eventually had to hire an independent project manager to manage Knockout's own team. Even basics like a so-called "construction cleaning" consisted of one person showing up with no supplies (actually, they had one single rag lol); we had to spend hours cleaning and later hire a hauler to remove leftover debris. We've paused the project and engaged legal counsel. The sauna must be completely rebuilt from scratch to meet even basic safety standards. read more

THEY DON'T KEEP THEIR WORD We used Keith and Knockout Renovations back in 2016 for a pretty big kitchen renovation project in our new apartment. Let me tell you all the ways they botched up our job 1) THE 7-YEAR WARRANTY IS FAKE: The contractors used two different paint colors, and the cabinetry totally didn't match. They kept saying it was the same color when clearly it wasn't. Finally, within the 7-year warranty that Knockout promises, we asked them to repaint the whole thing. This should have been completely covered by Knockout in their warranty, but they didn't honor it. They made us pay for half of it. 2) THEY NEVER CLOSED OUT ALL OUR PERMITS: Years later, we sold our apartment to discover that there were still open permits that Keith never closed. Because the sale of our apartment was on the line, I had to step in and make sure all the contractors were moving things forward. Keith totally washed his hands of this responsibility and we had to pay another $8000 to the electrician and architect to close it out, and of course, Keith didn't pay a dime when this was his responsibility many years prior. 3) IN TIME OF NEED, HE TOTALLY LEFT US HANGING: We weren't able to close the permits before the closing. Fortunately, the buyer agreed to move forward with the sale as long as we put something in escrow. Weeks before the closing, I was asking Keith to please make this a priority, but literally no progress was made. Then, finally, the day before our closing, I begged Keith to write an email just stating that we had already paid the electrician $8000, that no more work needed to be done on the apt, and that we would be able to close soon - all so that we can negotiate how much to put into escrow. He states on the phone that he's too busy to write an email and that he's sorry. That's it. He totally left us hanging, and we had to put the maximum amount into the escrow account. DO NOT USE KNOCKOUT. Keith is not a responsible nor honest contractor. read more

If you hire them be prepared to have the workscope double. The reason the original contract price is so low is because they leave so much out of it. If you discuss the reason you are hiring them and what you expect to get out of the renovation then you should expect it to be in the workscope - but all of it won't be. NOBODY in the company knows how to use BuilderTrend - the software they use to bill clients. They get mad if you ask too many questions because they keep having to call the company to get answers. You can only imagine all the headaches that come from that (double charging, invoices that need constant correcting, credits...). They rarely take accountability for anything that is their fault. Always the clients fault this and that was delayed, miscommunication, etc. The work that actually gets done is good. Most of the tradesmen are very skilled they just aren't getting paid so they never come in - can't blame them. We had to pay for progress in advance so Knockout could pay the electrician to come in. Our $9,000 SubZero refrigerator was not ordered until a year and a half after we paid in full and when we finally needed it to be delivered, Knockout didn't have the money to set up a delivery date. Asbestos removal worker called me directly months after his work was completed to let me know that Knockout never paid him (we paid in full a month before the work even started). Not sure how they got to this point but Keith has clearly been mis-managing his buissness for awhile now. Bottom line, I would not recommend unless you want a second full time job managing the company you hired to manage your renovation. Hard to beleive they have been around this long. Our floor joists were cut while the project manager was in the apartment "over seeing" the plumbers work - delayed our project by 6 weeks. Their expertise made sure we made the best choices even with things we didn't realize like close and release draws and quality underlighting. I would not advise anyone to hire this outfit. A supposed 3-month renovation of kitchen and bath turned into 7 months--not to finish, merely before we were able to move back in, having endured no less than 5 sublets. It was well over a year before they stopped coming to do inept fixes and we finally gave up on asking them to repair problems. We got mediocre design advice with plenty of avoidable errors (e.g. basic measurements), absolutely atrocious project and construction supervision (including one guy who simply disappeared in the middle of the project), and really horrid quality of finish work (much of which simply cannot be fixed without starting all over). Their workers botched installations of the washer-dryer, the dishwasher, the refrigerator, the kitchen cabinets, the tub, a pocket door, the kitchen subfloor (redone 3X to get it right) and more. They even failed to install an accessible gas shut-off for the stove. [see below for some finish work photos] We paid absolutely top-dollar for 3rd rate results. I am now slowly bringing in competent people to re-do things to workmanlike standards. The single thing I will say in their favor is that the firm's head, Keith, has made an effort to address some of these problems, but he doesn't have enough competent people to either do the kind of repairs necessary or, even worse, to build so that such extensive do-overs aren't necessary in the first place. Nothing about this project was easy, and it took constant riding to get things done. Don't be fooled by appearances! Keith, the owner, presents very well and the proposal seemed very professional. However it soon became apparent that Keith was mostly in the background and that his project managers are the people I would be dealing with on a daily basis. I was assigned 2 different project managers, the second hardly better than the first. From the beginning until the end it was email after email with stuff constantly falling through the cracks; mistakes being made. These project managers were not professional or good at dealing with people. I was quoted something like 50k in the beginning and the final sum was more than 4 times that. To be fair, the project grew and changed a lot but Knockout wasn't experienced or professional enough to accurately predict and prepare me for the cost and scope of the work. The work itself was shoddy in places and the finishing work left a lot to be desired. The final straw was the bathroom remodel. The tiling was so bad I couldn't believe my eyes. After a lot of screaming and yelling they agreed to redo the bathroom tiling; and thats the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars instead of one; because they agreed to correct their mistake. I renovated my whole apartment in Upper East Side, New York City. The quality of the work was amazing and the project manager made sure all finishes are done perfectly. They come with you to shop materials and guide you to buy things that match your expectations. They are easily reachable and extremely responsive to the calls and any inquiries during the work. Knockout's workmanship is so shoddy that, as the year + has progressed since the renovation, almost every fixture from the lighting to the faucets has fallen apart, in some cases quite literally. At one point the lights stopped working. At another, the shower faucet started spraying water from behind the base and flew off the wall. The owner, Keith, did not even schedule a plumber to come in for a week after the shower faucet blew off the wall. As of writing this review, the plumber still hasn't come. Knockout's people are unreliable and inconsistent and the workmanship, while superficially pretty, is very shoddily constructed. Knockout Renovation did my bathroom about 15 years ago and as time went by some of the calking started to go. I called Keith and told him what was happening and I couldn't believe it, he had someone come to my home and within 3 days. I have worked with other companies and could not believe the customer service that KR gives! I don't usually give reviews especially for construction companies because I always feel like I am being taken for a ride (which has happened in the past). But when I spoke to Keith about the problem there was no excuses that this would happen after 15 years he said I quote " I will have someone out within the week to fix this problem and re-calk" for me. This review pertains to my Manhattan apartment - I hired Knockout Renovation to renovate my kitchen and bathroom in my prewar apartment in 2007. After carefully planning the project exactly to my specifications, Keith and his team completed the work on time and within our planned budget. My apartment posed some unique challenges given that the building was built in the 1920's and Knockout was able to come up with solutions to problems posed by working in an old building. I found them to be proactive, creative, responsible and thorough. The quality of their work was ver high and they made sure that I was completely happy with everything before deeming the project "complete." After living in the apartment for seven years, a pipe behind the wall in my kitchen broke (it was a building problem, completely unrelated to anything Knockout had done) which necessitated sections of my floor and cabinets being removed so the plumbers could access the problem area. I called Keith and although he had completed his work for me seven years ago, he called me back within minutes and arranged for someone to be in to my apartment on the very next business day to fix what ended up being a complicated problem. He didn't even charge me to do this "follow up" work despite the fact that the problem was in no way caused by Knockout and several years had passed. I so appreciate his professionalism, efficiency, fairness and trustworthiness. I feel very confident recommending Knockout to anyone interested in a high quality renovation of their home. read more

Unbelievably awful. Dishonest, fraudulent, and illegal business practises. My project manager quit in the middle of my job because the company was so appalling that nothing got ordered on time. They took a big deposit from me and used it to pay off other bills. Then they demolished my kitchen and literally could not complete the job. They did not order the supplies that they said they were going to order and have lied to me as well as my lawyer in writing. I lost tons of money and time working with this company. We hired knockout to renovate our apartment and kitchen but not our bathrooms. Our apartment is prewar. Keith was very easy to work with and very trust worthy. We had a terrific project manager who unfortunately is not longer with knockout. The kitchen came out terrific. The paintings and moldings were done with excellent detail and are beautiful. Our only issues with knockout where the subcontractors they hired for the floors. I think they no longer use these contractors. They were terrible and the floors had to be redone several times. But again I don't think this is an issue anymore. Since the renovations we have had knockout come back for some repairs which have always been done in a timely fashion and with attention to detail. I would definitely recommend knockout to someone doing a large scale renovation who wants a lot of guidance and help with the project. read more

In addition they skim coated my walls and added new moldings and a door. They did a beautiful job and I love coming home to my apartment more than ever before. Their system is set up to take the work out of your hands and they dealt with the coop board, alteration agreements, permits, etc. If any product was off expectation, they addressed it immediately. I had a very positive experience overall and would and have recommended Knockout to friends and neighbors. I hired Knockout Renovation to renovate my new pre-war 1920s Manhattan apartment that hadn't been touched since the mid-1980s. It was an extensive renovation ... gutting the kitchen, building a new studio by adding walls, partially re-doing 2 bathrooms, refinishing all the floors, laying down new floor tiles in the foyer and kitchen, all new lighting and wiring. I had designed the layout and Knockout's designer took my ideas and improved upon them, maximized space and created an absolutely beautiful and comfortable home. They stayed on schedule, were meticulous in work and details and pretty much stayed within budget ... going over simply because of choices I made; not due to any actions on the part of Knockout. The building super and management continually praised their work ethics and processes and enjoyed working w/ Keith and his team.
