    Too-slim door saddle.

I would not advise anyone to hire this outfit. A supposed 3-month renovation of kitchen and bath turned into 7 months--not to finish, merely before we were able to move back in, having endured no less than 5 sublets. It was well over a year before they stopped coming to do inept fixes and we finally gave up on asking them to repair problems. We got mediocre design advice with plenty of avoidable errors (e.g. basic measurements), absolutely atrocious project and construction supervision (including one guy who simply disappeared in the middle of the project), and really horrid quality of finish work (much of which simply cannot be fixed without starting all over). Their workers botched installations of the washer-dryer, the dishwasher, the refrigerator, the kitchen cabinets, the tub, a pocket door, the kitchen subfloor (redone 3X to get it right) and more. They even failed to install an accessible gas shut-off for the stove. [see below for some finish work photos] We paid absolutely top-dollar for 3rd rate results. I am now slowly bringing in competent people to re-do things to workmanlike standards. The single thing I will say in their favor is that the firm's head, Keith, has made an effort to address some of these problems, but he doesn't have enough competent people to either do the kind of repairs necessary or, even worse, to build so that such extensive do-overs aren't necessary in the first place. Nothing about this project was easy, and it took constant riding to get things done. I am firmly convinced that the overall experience took years off my life simply from the tension, anxiety, and anger it generated.

Salesperson (Laila P) was late, was so frazzled and disconnected she provided zero guidance when looking at tile. I think I knew more about the product than she did. Follow up emails to her about tile questions were 100% incorrect ("our tiles are ceramic, non-porous tiles. They are NOT natural stone."). That is UNTRUE!!! Delivery was a joke. Per contract, delivery was with a pallet jack. They arrived with an enormous forklift that could not get down my street (or any NYC street). See image. Dropped it 150 ft from my home. Had to carry 1,350 pounds of tile 150 ft into my apartment. Customer service after that was short and rude (Sedina O). Contested delivery fee with credit card and won. Finally tried to return tiles and they refused because I reached out to them 46 days after delivery (policy is 45 days). Really??!! Go somewhere else where you can buy the same tile for less money. They charge extra so they can pay for their MASSIVE showrooms all over the world. The sales people there are useless. Good luck getting any support from corporate. They are non existent.

What stood out immediately was that she didn't just try to "sell" me a bathroom. She actually paid attention to how I live day to day and designed the space around that. She noticed little things I didn't even think about, like where lighting should hit the mirror, storage that wouldn't make the room feel crowded, and materials that looked expensive without feeling cold or overly trendy. The biggest difference with NYKB was that the process never felt chaotic. Usually when people talk about renovations it's horror stories, delays, and constantly chasing people down. I never felt that here. Everything felt intentional and handled. Maia somehow managed to make a renovation feel calm, which I didn't think was possible. Now that it's finished, my bathroom genuinely feels like part of a luxury hotel suite but still personal and comfortable. Everyone who comes over comments on it immediately. Looking back, choosing NYKB was probably the best decision I made for the project. Maia has an eye that's very hard to find.

During the demolition and construction phases, Michael, the Project Manager, ensured that all work was done, or even redone, to the highest standards. They have been very responsive to any issues that arose post-completion. I would be happy to have NYKB as a partner on any future remodels.

Her comment posted to my previous Yelp review gives you an idea as to the type of people you can expect to work with over at NY Rainbow. As posted back in 2013 (and as I reminded Wendy) my Yelp review is an accurate recap of my experience wth NY Rainbow. Nowhere in my review did not indicate that I was a customer or that any money exchanged hands. Everything that's there is an accurate summary of my grueling experience with NY Rainbow. Emails and phone calls are the cost of doing business. As I told Kris and Wendy previously, I was on vacation (personal time) during most of my correspondence with them, so my time was as valuable (and arguably more valuable) than theirs. I made the scope of work known and very clear from the get go and I admitted FROM THE START it was a smaller project. If they didn't want to take on my smaller project, they should have said so at the start and saved everyone the time and frustration.
