I am in love with this store. I can do some basic crochet, but am a near expert level shopper. This shop is gorgeous, beautiful yarn is everywhere and it feels very relaxed. There are a lot of samples of work decorating the store. There's even a large table on one side with "Open Table Time" to work on projects. The yarn is higher quality, with all different colors, textures, fibers... It is perfect for so many projects, time allowing! There are also a lot of kits (crochet your own dog, anyone?) for knitting, crochet, and wool. Knit & Pearls is a great yarn shop in Central CT and definitely worth visiting! The yarn selection is very good with frequent sales and lower prices than you will find anywhere else for top quality wool and other fibers. The owner Susanne is truly an enthusiastic knitter and this shop cannot be beat for samples of knitting! If you love to see a finished garment in the yarn you are considering, this is the place! I've never seen a shop that produces a full size sample per month! Amazing! Also this shop is extremely well organized! I am somewhat biased as I did teach crochet there and loved every minute of teaching at Knit & Pearls. Ample parking and it's next to Luke's Donut OMG super hot coffee and delish donut holes so beware. Watch for lively yarn events and trunk shows- you are sure to make wonderful fiber friends here. read more

What a delightful shop! I saw on another shops newsletter that Knit & Pearls was participating in a shop hop; not realizing where they were -- I ventured over. What a find! I was warmly greeted by Suzanne; shown to the sock yarn; found three-- yes! Three different yarns that I just love -- and then Suzanne helped me locate a new pattern. We talked about knitting and patterns; she shared the shop culture and open knitting times. Could not have been kinder and more gracious. I cannot look forward to winding the first of yarns and starting yet another new pair! But, more so to a return visit to Knit & Pearls! This is truly a wonderful shop with a lovely owner! read more

Lovely bright and spacious yarn shop with great selection to please any yarnivore. Not just yarn, but also fiber for spinning and felting as well as beads, notions, and looms for weaving. I was immediately greeted at the door and offered a sample of one of their signature teas, a tasty mango. It was Sunday and while the shop was busy with the various groups enjoying the Western CT Yarn Crawl, I was assisted graciously with locating the patterns and yarn I was looking for. I'd heard about the yarn crawl and visited a number of websites mentioning the event. Kudos to Knit & Pearls as theirs was the most helpful website which explained well the specifics of the Western CT Yarn Council's 3rd annual crawl: Upon visiting each store, you will be eligible to enter a Nightly Drawing for fabulous products with the purchase of a $5 passport. Each passport contains a favorite pattern and recipe from all seven stores - a great way to try new things! With each of the seven stores holding a drawing all three nights of the crawl, there are many opportunities to walk away with something beautiful! If you visit all seven yarn shops, your name will be added to a Grand Prize Drawing. I left the shop with yarn, a number of patterns, a lovely handcrafted shawl pin and another sample of tea, this one called orange cookie. I'm drinking it now as I write this review; made up of black tea, apple, cinnamon, coriander, orange peel, cardamom, peppercorn and cloves, it is so delicious I know I'm going to need to return for more. WOW! The friendliest yarn shop EVER!!!!!! For me, this us unheard of, to encounter such *genuinely* kind, happy, cheery, and friendly yarn shop employees. Such a breath of fresh air. Even though there was a class going on when I arrived, I was cheerfully greeted and then a little later approached to see if I needed any help. When I said I was just looking around, they kindly left me alone. When I asked for help, they kindly listened and showed me what could meet my needs. We had friendly conversation; no judging; advice, opinions, and experiences as pertinent. Awesome! They have a unique inventory of yarns that I've mostly not seen elsewhere. Lots of yarn options for gifts (ie: that can handle abuse), for babies, for indulging, etc. Quite a variety of fibers, weights, and colors. I love indie hand-dyes. They didn't have many options, except a very nice line that is dyed by the owner. What a beautiful job she does dying the yarn! It's gorgeous, well-priced, with many options (bases & weights). How am I the first one to review this place? I had been a loyal Yarnover (formerly Sit 'n Knit) customer for years, but after stopping their going out of business sale and saying farewell to my usual yarn store, I felt the need to find another yarn store in the area. I'm rarely in the Hartford area, but when I'm here to visit my parents, yarn shopping is at the top of my list of things to do (spoke like a true yarn addict, I know). I swung by Knit & Pearls on a whim, and I was blown away by this shop. They have a huge selection of yarn, and also a wide range of fibers, brands, and prices. There were the usual staples of a typical local yarn store (Cascade, Malabrigo, Debbie Bliss, etc.), but they also had some more unusual things, including (I believe) some yarns that are dyed by one of their staff members. I can't say for sure that these yarns are exclusive to the store, but I certainly hadn't seen them anywhere else. Not only was the yarn selection impressive, but the staff were nice, helpful, and very friendly. What a great find! I expected to just come by and check out the shop, but I left with yarn for a new project (not entirely surprising) and with the satisfaction of having found a new gem of a local yarn store. Check out this shop, and while you're there, join the mailing list--they send out interesting knitting-related things, as well as events going on at the shop. This is my favorite knitting store in the area...and I've been to them all. K&P has a really great selection of yarn brands in different weights and fiber content. They even have their own line of hand dyed yarn, which I love to use for socks or shawls. They have a good selection of sock yarns as well as a small bead section, books, needle felting, and yarn spinning supplies. I love their weekly email. It comes out on Tuesdays and is super informative about all of their many activities and new products. I've taken their beginner loom class, which was really affordable and I enjoyed it very much. Everyone who works here is helpful and friendly. They've got to be the "nicest" folks working in a yarn shop. Nothing is pretentious and they help both beginners and experts alike. This is a lovely little shop with an abundance of fibres and more. A knitting class was going on when I arrived, but I was still given a warm welcome and was not ignored. I didn't pick up much since a lot of what was there, was also back home for me (NYC), but it was nice stopping by a shop outside of where I usually go. read more
