I wish I lived close to a store like this. Their selection is fabulous and the woman working was really helpful. I am very much a beginner. (My last successful sewing machine project was 6th grade home economics). She helped me pick a beginner project. I picked out beautiful fabric and she put together a kit for me. Today I finished my bag and I am so proud of it. They offer classes which I wish I could take. My only complaint is that they are 6 hours away!

This is in the old Crafty Planet location. The owner is a sweetheart and has really made the place her own, with a new counter, decor, and displays that make the whole space seem more open. There is plenty of cute fabric to choose from, and there is a bigger selection of yarn as well. There are new favorites for me like Blue Sky Yarn (knitted their Caledonia cowl over Labor Day weekend) and lots of squishy Malabrigo. While I was perusing the yarn someone came in to show off an adorable printed blouse they sewed with materials from the store. I'll have to come back soon to share my completed cowl. Glad this little store is in the neighborhood. I'll be back often!

And I was pleasantly surprised that the staff at the custom framing area were happy to help me choose the best premade frame for the art I brought and the room where I would display the frames. Five-star service for the frames department. The frames seemed to be better quality (construction, ease of hanging, packaging) than comparably priced inexpensive frames in nearby stores. After that, the self-serve checkout experience was a bit of a letdown. The person behind the counter didn't even say hi. I could see it was self-serve, but the contrast was a bit jarring. This was my first visit to Michaels in a long time. I had avoided Michaels in recent years because the selection and service seems to have gone downhill since my first visit in the 1990s. But after today's experience with the frame department, I'll go back if I'm in the area.

This is definitely a one off location. It's connected to the mall but the mall is pretty dead now…read more I feel like it's smaller than the most locations in which I feel like they generally don't have some of things other stores offer. I especially look for the seasonal diamond art and sometimes jewelry making items. They seem to have 2 checkout counters but i've only seen the closer to the parking lot open vs the mall door register. Line can definitely build up quick. Prices have went up a bit as well and while they offer a rewards program, they offer less/not as good coupons now.

I decided to break the ice and asked her where they had alligator clips. She huffed and stomped over to the spot and told me, "We don't call them that here. They are hair clips." and she briskly turned around and walked away like I had just asked for the dildo dept. The male clerk was no better. But I do have shoulder length hair so I guess I deserved it.

I swear it felt like the aisles were never ending. Hobby Lobby is like Michael's and Home Goods had a huge baby. Like Costco size huge. Everything was marked 60% off which was amazing and some things actually rang up as 70% off at the check out? We love a good deal! (Everything was cheaper than the dollar store in the same strip mall) The checkout line was like twenty people deep before they opened another register. I was foolish and didn't grab a cart so my arms were literally shaking by the time it was my turn to pay lol. Checkout employee was nice enough and friendly. I could tell they were exhausted from it being so busy. On that note I will also say that I didn't see any employees while I was shopping... so it's a good thing I didn't need any help?
