This place opened sometime towards the end of 2011 and uses what was once the local library and, before that, the local court. Apparently the holding cells are still extant upstairs. The walls and pillars are lined with real, hardback books (not just spines like I've seen done before) so if you're waiting for someone, you can pick one up and have a flick through. There's also an open fire for cold days. Wetherspoons apparently spent something like £1 million on this place, and it shows as it's the warmest and most well-decorated one of their chain in the area that I've ever been to. The staff are all extremely friendly and polite. In fact their the friendliest of any Wetherspoons staff I've ever met. The beer is well kept and there's always a good selection of guest ales. The only Wetherspoons I've been in that's as good is the one in Llandudno and that's because their food is delicious. I've eaten here a couple of times and I'd say avoid the cheap menu if you expect anything other than cheap food, but apart from that I cannot fault the place.

Despite looking quite small when you first go past, the Crosswells is actually pretty big, with a bar, lounge, at least one function room, a small outside seating area and a restaurant. The bar also has a good selection of bitters, lagers, bottles and Guinness. They also have salt and vinegar crinkly mini cheddars which I've not seen anywhere else and which I highly recommend. The staff are the right kind of staff for the place - they know the locals but are just as friendly with passing customers. I must admit I've not been in at night, but during the day it's a clean and lovely place to have a quiet drink.

There are two other rooms another towards the back which is more like the lounge of the pub and the bar on the front, with a heated covered smoking area out back!! You've gotta feel sorry for the Waggon and 'Osses. This small, award-winning real-ale pub has…read morerecently suffered the ignomony of having a massive, million-pound costing Wetherspoons open next door to it. Not only that, the Wetherspoons is actually really good with the facilities, warmth and atmosphere completely lacking in other nearby pubs like The White Swan and The Junction. The Waggon though should be able to stand its ground a little as its typical of the old-school boozer that seasoned bar workers like myself and seasoned ale seekers like many I know are always happy to stumble across (or out of). It's indicative of the kind of pub it is that within 30 seconds of walking in and ordering a pint of Golden Glow, I found myself in a conversation with an old chap sat nearby about Salopian beers. As well as five real ales, they serve Carling, Fosters and Strongbow. There's no Guinness on tap but cans of it in the fridge. The toilets are located at the end of a dimly lit corridor and the place could maybe do with a spot of paint. Overall it's the kind of pub that has probably survived a long time on a good reputation. Now that the Wetherspoons have moved in next door, hopefully it won't try and rest on its laurels. It's the kind of place that's nice to go for a quiet pint with your mates or on your onesome but certainly not the kind of place to go on a date or in the hope of a wild night out.

This pub is one that seems to attract the oldies but that's not to say younger people cannot go to The Wheatsheaf. I always tend to have salted peanuts with my pint. The Wheatsheaf also have a function room that be hired for up to 80 people. If you do fancy hiring out the function room at The Wheatsheaf give the pub a call on the above number. Quiz nights and music nights are some the events held at the pub and of course not forgetting they also show live sports for all you sporting fans out there.
