After a day of putting around on Lake Sakakawea with the family we wanted to grab a bite before meeting the rest of the family at the downstream campsite. This knights bar and grill is super unique in that it is located within an old high school and the building has been converted into a multi use building including a basketball court. We arrived just after 6:30 and it was pretty quiet inside. There was an area for the kids to do stuff with an activities table for tots, a deer hunter video game for older kids, pool table, darts, and one of those games where you push the pucks down to the other side with sand on the board like a cross between shuffleboard and curling. Pretty friendly fellow who was either the owner or manager greeted us. He also happened to be selling raffle tickets to which we of course obliged for the chance to win a can-am ATV and/or a Ruger 30 odd 6. The staff: very interesting. Each server seemed to be from abroad. For instance, our server "Susan" was from the Czech Republic and spoke little to no English. It was a point to what you want type of situation. The cool part is she took extra care to ensure we got what we ordered and was very sweet. In fact she did probably do a better job than many servers at other restaurants I've been to. Food: I really think the food was about what one should expect for this type of place. Certainly not fancy - it was good enough though. I ordered the grilled walleye (pictured) based on another review I read on Yelp by a guy who had done so many reviews. He was correct it tasted pretty good it's just the portion was very small. Didn't seem like all the value was there for $19. I got the tomato basil soup (pictured) which I probably wouldn't order again. The family ordered the breaded walleye and a black and bleu burger. Seemed like everyone happy with their meals. They had a decent variety of beers and did have the normal domestics you'd expect at a bar with some IPA samplings. If you are ever in that area wouldn't hurt to give them a try.

Great food, different items. Chef Aldar knows what he's doing. Huge venue for weddings.

We were immediately greeted & seated with a lake view. Offered water while we selected drinks & given the details on the specials, which rotate. We've driven by so many times without realizing what we were missing, thinking it was just a lakeside bar. I'm so glad we decided to swing in once hearing about the "not bar fare food" being served. Seafood in North Dakota, ehhhh, how brave do you feel? We started with shrimp stuffed shrooms. It only comes with 3, but they are piled high. It turns out we really didn't need an app, as I'm currently eating my boxed up food while I'm writing this review. I honestly haven't been in such a personable place in a long time &, no, we aren't regulars or locals. We were given a tip to come back for seafood Sunday- maybe... The beef was all tender & juicy - cooked to a perfect med-rare. The hubs had the hanger steak & I opted for the lavash special- which was a BOGO - buy the Philly & get a seafood version free. Veggies were all fresh, no canned/frozen soggy stuff here, nice & crisp. When we were checked in on, my response to "is everything tasting ok?" was simply "wow" with an "I know, right?" bounced back.

I just had a wild hair to pull off the side of the road to have a dive burger. And let me tell you,…read moreit was divine. I ordered the jalapeño poppers, which was kind of a fusion thing. It was popper stuffed egg rolls. Secret cheeses and diced peppered, deep fried in the wrap. Really really good and unique. I had to try the Bacon Macaroni and Cheese burger. It was really incredible, coming from a restaurant in a town with a population of 300+ folks. The burger was thick, and perfectly cooked. Not too dry, with a slightly juicy light pink center. The Mac and cheese and the bacon crumbles were so good and the potato roll was soft and I just loved it . I could only eat half, the rest is coming on the plane ride home. I don't know when I will be back, but I'm glad I stopped!! I wish them luck! PS: The sweet tea was perfect too, for a hot summer day and the cool breeze of ND. Friendly service, unsuspecting amazing food!

Unfortunately their cook was hospitalized and their kitchen was closed so we went to the other option in Max: Pour Choices Bar and Grill - formerly The Max Cafe. Pour Choices Bar and Grill was having their Grand Opening Weekend so we decided to eat lunch there. My buddy ordered an Aloha Burger which he said was just ok but he said the fries were great. I ordered the Chicken Wing Basket they were excellent, very nicely rendered and crispy. I ordered garlic parmesan wings and they had very good flavor and even with the garlic parmesan they remained crispy and delicious. The wing basket comes with fries and cole slaw but don't get the waffle fries unless you want a $3 up charge! We ate in the bar and it was dimly lit and I didn't see that the waffle fries was an upcharge, I thought it said the wings came with waffle fries and cole slaw but they assured me when charging that the menu said it was extra... 4 Stars for the wings but minus one for the food taking a very long time... 35-40 minutes to come out and it wasn't that busy but I'd still recommend eating there but YMMV. We'll definitely make another drive to Max and try out the Red Light next time. One thing that does bother me is the waitress just announced the bill total without presenting a printed bill for the customer to examine and then pay. I had to ask for a printout and I think that should be a given. $14 wings and a $3 Pepsi turned out to be $21+ because I didn't see the fine print about the waffle fries. They were very good waffle fries but had I known I wouldn't have opted for the extra $3 charge as the regular fries would have been plenty good to have as well.
