The Sanctuary. Selection of costumes.
John S.

Knight Watch Games is located in the Mission Oaks Shopping Center. It's been in existence for eight years. The business is co-owned by an eighth grade school mate of mine, named Paraic Mulgrew. His dream was to open the ultimate gaming shop. I believe the awards on the wall show he has accomplished that. Upon entering the store, a customer is greeted by the great hall. Long tables, with benches and chairs, encourage guests to talk to people across and next to them. The great hall, along with the Death Star room and Bunker room are free and first come, first served. To the right of the front door are shelves of staff recommended games. They have a huge selection of board, miniature, card, and role (roll) playing games on a tremendous amount of shelf space. If a customer needs a bit more privacy, they have two rooms to rent. These rooms have a table, chairs, mini fridge, fog machine, iPad, television and internet. They are sound proof and have a dedicated air conditioner. These can be rented out by a group or individual for six hour blocks. Knight Watch Games is unique in that it is one of very few shops to offer gamers a free place to congregate and play outside of someone's basement or living room. They are open seven days a week, from noon until midnight. They have a men's and women's bathroom. The men's has a cool Steam Punk theme and the women's has a Doctor Who theme. They have a ladies knight every other Thursday for women to learn from female staff members how to play games without any pressure or men present. Knight Watch has a Scullery (kitchen) where patrons can order hot or cold drinks (non-alcoholic), entrees, appetizers, sides, and desserts. The Sanctuary, next door, offers full knight regalia. This includes swords, armor, leather costumes, helmets, and other medieval clothing. This place has costumes for cosplay, Renaissance fairs, medieval parties, and live action role players. If you are a current gamer, one that needs to be reactivated, or someone just beginning, then Knight Watch Games is for you. They can provide you a safe, free place to play, feed you, and give advice on all sorts of different games. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the owners truly care about the gaming community.

Provided terrain pieces for Dungeons and Dragons

My friends and I all went to Knight Watch Games to rent a room for a private playing of Dungeons and Dragons in a themed room. What we got was phenomenal, they provided an extreme amount of terrain, books, and a good little space. We paid $90 for 12 hours in their Renaissance room, which split between the four of us was just over $22 a person, which is honestly a steal. The food provided was not overpriced and good quality. Excellent pricing and service would happily go again

Awesome LGS. The store has a nice fantasy theme. Tons of games and products. And they do events throughout the month. And good food as you can see in the photos. This is my main LGS for a reason.

Great time with friends. Played games and ate some sandwiches. The mozzarella stick pretty good. Cool vibe.

One of the best places in San Antonio, hands down. No other place is as welcoming and as fun. A really big fan of their Ladies Nights, which happens every other Thursday. $5 admission gets you snacks, drinks, the chance to win a board game, and lotsa fun! They have various games set up and the best part: a teacher!!! I don't know how many times my friends and I have cracked open a really cool game that none of us had played before, gotten too confused while reading the instructions, and then settled for a game of Uno. The teachers explain the rules of the game and play with you! My bestie and I have discovered great games during Ladies Night, and even bought one (with a discount!). Definitely worth checking out.

Knight Watch is an absolute gem and I feel like a complete fool for putting off my first visit as long as I have. I recently came in with the boyfriend and seconds after we entered, an employee named Eric (super mellow dude, v passionate about the store) approached us and started giving us a rundown of the establishment and everything it has to offer. He said he wasn't a salesman but we were S O L D. The shopping side features a huge selection of board and card games, if they don't have what you're looking for they can hunt it down and order it. Just to the side of the register is a huge room with costumes perfect for roleplaying or LARPing. They also offer dice, figurines, paint and so many accents you can incorporate into D&D, Pathfinder, or whatever floats your boat. Aside from the 200+ board games available to play for free, they provide terrains, figures, dice, and anything you could imagine needing in any table top games. The tables in the main room as well as the 3 tables in the Star Wars themed corner are all first come first serve but you can call ahead and reserve a table with either 4 or 6 seats (can't remember which, oops!) for six hours for just $5! There are two rooms themed for absolute immersion, these rooms rent 6 hours for $50 and feature RGB mood lighting, sound boards, and even a suit of armor you can try on. These rooms are soundproofed and are often used for locals to record podcasts, stream games, or just hole up with the homies with a little more privacy than the rest of the play tables. There's also ice buckets and mini fridges you can stock up and stay snacking throughout your stay. The only perceivable drawback is that due to the huskies/shop mascots the owners bring in, they're unable to sell any concessions but there is a pizzaria in the same shopping center that foot delivers (for free!) and I did see several people bring in Whataburger or bags of snacks so maybe pack a lil picnic or plan to order some delivery if you're spending a chunk of your day there. Honestly though I'm totally fine packing a snack if I get to pet some huge pups when they're around. After touring the place, a homie came through and we all played board games for like 3 hours (time flew byyy), it was a super pleasant visit and I'm hyped to go back. If anyone wants to meet up for some board games (or add me to your D&D group) h i t m e u p!

We played The Captain is Dead- and won (on novice)!

I had NO IDEA such a place existed! You can just show up with your friends and some games and sit at their really, really long tables and play! I called before I arrived cos I could not believe it! They also have food and drink (non-alcoholic) that you can enjoy while you play, they bring it to you after you order at the front desk. ALSO, they have a bunch of games THERE that you can play and a shelf with staff recommendations. And if you like the game enough you can buy it at their store! Restrooms, too! The ladies restroom is Doctor Who themed. Come here to learn, play, have fun and come back!

I've attended a couple Women's Knight Out with my friend, which is a couple of hours of girl game time. This event takes place in a small room toward the back of a large game store. The store contains many table to set up a game with friends or build other things. So on the women's night the owner sets up 3 games and we usually sit 3-4 players and we play for about an hour then we rotate through the games. Some games are harder to learn, but over all the experience is fun. It's not my usual pastime, but I've grown to enjoy this kids free-husband free time.

You can find Cherry's located on N. Broadway a mile or so north of 410 in a shopping center... north side of the center facing the street and up the stairs. They have way more room for all their costumes and accessories... it's all spread out! They are excited with the expansion and hope that you will come in to see them! I was introduced to Cherry at an event we were both at several years ago. We have common friends. Since then, I have stopped at her store every so often to see how she is doing. If anyone knew Cherry, they would understand that she is getting older with family and health issues... and she is/was not running a typical run of the mill business. If you were in a shop alone working and sewing inventory, you might understand her wanting appointments instead of walk-ins. Cherry now is enjoying her retirement while her son Christian is taking charge and holding up the reins to carry on! Cherry's Costumes Galore does have a lot of older vintage costumes they carefully restore. It's amazing to have someone who loves textiles so much to take on this challenge! I didn't get a chance to look at everything but having this huge building, it sure does help you get a chance to see more of what there is to choose from. Let Christian or Amanda help you out! You know, costumes aren't just for Halloween.. think about a themed party, First Friday Pub Run in downtown SA, or perhaps one of the many Renaissance Festivals that run through out the year around Texas... Costumes really are for year around fun!

The staff took the time to allow me to try several dresses. To my surprise they also paired a feather boa, headdress, pearl necklace/bracelet, satin gloves, shoes, and even a purse. This was an unbelievable deal!!!! Also this saves time visiting several places for all the necessary items. The greatest part of all is that the costumes aren't cheesy like traditional party/costume stores. They have taken the time to curate an authentic selection of items. I will definitely return in the future.

I called to ask about shipping time. For the standard shipping cost, it appeared I would receive the item in time, but FF offered to call me back after placing the order to discuss a faster option (not an expedited service). Well, they did, they had an option for another carrier, and even offered to absorb the cost difference. I got the item a day earlier than estimated with the original carrier. The item is also quite fragile, but it was packed very well and arrived undamaged. I couldn't be happier with the service I received and will definitely be looking here first for my freaky items!

One of the owners shared a story with my boy, who shares his fascination with all things chicken. That was what originally caught my boys attention since they had shirts with chickens on them. They have all sorts of unique shirts here and it's become a routine to stop by and check out what cool new gear they've received. Recently, we checked out their masks, and I've never seen such a selection of clown and dark creature disguises. I have to say this is definitely a hidden gem that has to be explored whenever out this way and no matter what time of the year for us. I always leave with something unique and unforgettable.
