The main reason for my low rating was because the kid who was handling all rentals really had an attitude of "I don't know and I don't care". I almost feel like if I had never been paddleboarding prior to this, I would have had a miserable experience. He gave me zero information and then proceeded to give me a paddle that was too short and also did not know how to adjust the length. Then he sent me out into the water tail end first. The website said we would be guided as to where the turnaround point was-he did not share this. And then when I returned there was zero acknowledgement or even some basic customer service of "how did you like it? did you have fun?". From other reviews I have read it seems like the company is a very reputable service provider in the area. I just think that this one kid is a terrible representation of what you want your company to be. In addition to the complete non-existence of any kind of customer service experience, the water in the river is quite disgusting. I got a rash on my foot just from touching the water. Fortunately I am skilled on the paddle board and did not fall in. I really was hoping that I would have been able to take the paddle into the actual waters of Lake Michigan. That in itself would have been a more thrilling experience.

Tyler and assorted instructors, that specialize in various aspect of the sport, are top instructors and well trained. They are very patient but students should also be both patient and persistent. This is not a sport for "toe dipping", like paddle boarding. Even paddle boarding, like any sport that involves water, there is a lot to learn beyond just learning the sport. Hint... safety and knowledge in case things go wrong. It has taken be years to get the fundamentals of kiteboarding and I was pretty experienced at a lot of similar sports. I think frequency and intensity had a lot to do with my long learning curve, which both centered around availability at the right time. Finally, a few years later, I'm gaining independence and security. Whether you learn on vacation, or use a great outfit like Stoke Riders, be prepared to dedicate time. You can expect the commitment might be similar to getting certified to scuba dive. You might be able to get a quick "fix" initially but the real understanding takes a long time. For myself, there was nothing quick, and so I just learned the rescue aspect of the sport better as I narrowed in on being able to ride.

They had scheduled appointment customers they were helping and managed to work us right in without neglecting them. Art and Shelly are fair, knowledgeable and extremely kind. Art spent so much time with us explaining the ebike world to us and making sure we made an informed decision with test rides and answering all our questions. Before we left he made sure everything was fit and working properly to our satisfaction and patiently making changes to our needs. I feel confident Art and Shelly will continue to support our purchase above and beyond should we have any future problems or repairs. Our maiden trip was 18 miles on some hill country that I certainly would not have entertained on my mountain bike. States that they do not open when yellow flags are flying at the beach. 7/19 we were at North Beach from 830 a.m to 3 p.m. Sunday we were there from 9 a.m. till 3:45 p.m and the flag nearest to where we were was green the entire time (near the line of the private beach). If NOAA and city communicated incorrectly, business should have a conversation with them. After we were able to rent paddle boards we did enjoy using them for the full time we rented them.

We visited Macatawa Boat House this past week while staying in Holland, MI. Their website didn't…read morelist an address for the shop, but the directions were quite clear. They are located on Lake Macatawa, on Ottawa Beach Road, just across from the campground for RVs and next to a small little beach. We got to the boathouse right about as it opened at 10am, and only waited a few minutes to get service, due to the large group ahead of us that was being helped. They went out in single and double kayaks, which it looked like there were plenty of at the time. No reservations were required, and we didn't make any, so I was glad to see so much equipment there. We asked for paddleboards and got a basic tutorial on their use after we mentioned we had only tried to paddleboard once before. We were asked how long we wanted the boards for, and when we responded about an hour, a beautiful route was suggested to us, and we were told it would be about an hour there and back at a leisurely pace. She was right - we hit the time mark pretty true, and the way there and back was so pretty on a pretty calm lake. The employee asked if we wanted her to put our car keys, wallets, etc. in a lockbox she had at the boathouse, so we wouldn't have to worry about them, which I thought was really nice. She also told us the parking in the lot next to the boathouse would require a beach parking pass, but there are two spots available for patrons (if you can snag them), or there's free 3 hour parallel parking on Ottawa Beach Road. Our total cost was $40 for two one hour paddleboard rentals, which was pretty reasonable and a fun way to spend a morning. Do visit Macatawa Boat House to rent paddleboards or kayaks if you're in Holland. We had a great experience.

After debate, we chose stand up paddle baording on Spring Lake instead of off Lake Michigan's shore…read moreand are so glad we did. Lake Michigan is cold and looked windy. We wanted something more relaxing with more to look at than just water and a lake shore. Lakeshore Kayak Rental gave us exactly what we wanted. The water was warm, to our surprise, and the trip was so tranquil and calm, with all kinds of close up wildlife. We saw turtles within minutes of being out, there were bullfrogs, otters, blue herons, swans (with babies!) geese, ducks, and at times, you could see fish in the water. The price was great at $45 for 3 hours, the staff was friendly and very helpful in advising us where the good places to go were and gave us accurate times on how long it would take us--we were able to stick to the plan on timing while having plenty of time to stop and watch the wildlife and relax. Spring Lake paddle boarding was the highlight of our trip and is on the top of our list for next tine we come back!
