I've had two road bikes in for repairs and Devin quickly determined the issue and made the repairs. The turnaround time was quick. When I mentioned that I wished I had higher gears on my gravel bike he suggested replacing the rear cassette, which turned out to be an inexpensive solution and made my rides more enjoyable. read more

Popped a tire while on vacation. This shop was the closest to where we were staying. The service was excellent and startlingly fast (planned to browse using the time of the repair as an excuse). The service person had my rear tire off, tube replaced and everything tightened and in order before I had finished browsing the helmets. The woman at the counter was friendly, knowledgable and helpful. She answered my numerous dumb questions with the patience and pleasantry only found in the best of pre-school educators. The store has a great team of people, an excellent selection, was clean and well organized. I just wish my local bike shop was as positive an experience as Cycle & Fitness. Very friendly and prompt service and the prices were reasonable. I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely go back any time. The service department got me moving on a walk-in within twenty minutes. Granted it was a minor issue but I was really impressed they didn't tell me to come back next week to pick it up. I had a favorite garden cart that had two worn out tires. The size was unusual so none of the hardware stores had them. One of them suggested checking with SJB so I went as a last resort. The staff there (maybe it was the owner?) is so incredibly helpful! He said right away he thought he could find it and, sure enough, after a couple minutes in a catalog, he had it ordered and on the way. It was here within a week. One thing to remember: If you've looked for 6 months for a specialty tire and it arrives totally ready to go and you accidentally leave it on the side of the sidewalk while you put your dog in the car (don't ask me how I know this), the store will hunt you down and save it for you at the store without making you feel like an idiot! Mike (and another girl, who's name I can't remember unfortunately) were very helpful in helping me find a suitable bike rack, and I'm very satisfied with the product and pricing. Also, last time we were in, we watched the owner (Mike) work with a young family who was purchasing a bike helmet for their little girl. Even though it was a small purchase he took the time to make them feel special, and he made it fun for the little girl -- great guy! We've purchased multiple bikes from Mike and the service is always great! They even service our tandem (a bike we didn't purchase there) with the same care. I ride a motorized bike. After thousands of miles the rear hub bearings were shot. I took off the wheel (since no bike shop will look at anything with a motor) I needed heavy gauge spokes like I had, just a new hub. The owner said he has a "wheel guy" who could build me one just like mine but with an even better hub. So great. I left my old wheel there and asked if they could remove and attach the extra gear for my motor. They said sure. I also said since the tire is somewhat warn, maybe we just get new but I need heavy duty JUST LIKE what I have, a heavy duty tube, and could they please take out the extra thorn guard I have in there and put it on the new wheel. Fine. So I finally get my wheel. And I should have realized right away when my old tire was still on the old rim no one took it off and no one moved the thorn strip. But I just wasn't paying attention. Got it all on my bike. Very first 30 mile round trip, the rear tire blew out. When I got the tire off I saw the tube split on the inside. And it was NOT a heavy duty tube. Birthday balloons would be thicker. Brought it back... wanted to talk to the owner but he ignored me. Finally this kid working there asked if he could help, I showed him the tube, said this is not the heavy duty I asked for, he offered a refund. Owner was standing right there, surely he could hear what was going on but never said a word. So fine, I got my lousy refund and left. Ordered a tube online. Meanwhile... my old tube was ok, put it in. It wasn't until I started putting pressure into the tire that I realized why the previous tube split. The tire itself was defective. The rubber along the bead on one side got thin, and was split but only visible if you really look close, OR have pressure on the tube. Defective. So back to the shop I go. This time the owner wasn't even in. Same kid who refunded my tube was there. Started to get another tire, I said no, I have a good one ordered, just refund me. OH NO can't do that. He didn't even look at it. Said it was my fault. Rude as can be too. I was livid. went home, and waited. I figured this is just a dumb kid working at a bike shop. I'll give the owner a chance. Next day I called and of course he had to see the tire so back I go. I showed him the split He looked, then begrudgingly said "I'll refund your money but this was caused by brakes." I said NO WAY!!!!! NO WAY AT ALL! I do my own brakes, (in fact just replaced the shoes before all the wheel issues started) and I know how to adjust them. There is no way possible any part of a brake shoe came in contact with the rubber. Then I pointed out how I ASKED for a heavy duty tire LIKE MINE. Not this 18 dollar piece of cheap junk. I ASKED for a heavy duty tube and I ASKED for the thorn guard to be put on and none of that was done. ALL YOUR FAULT not mine. Agh... I just accepted the refund and thought I would be done. Lesson learned. Get my own parts. This keeps getting better. Few days later I'm checking my credit card history and instead of seeing a refund for the 18 something, he CHARGED ME 26.00. WTH? Again I called. Next day he called me back and said he'd issue the full refund, both what I should have got and the extra. And in fact that did finally go through. Now I was still going to just let this go. Of course I'd never go back there again. On the weekend before July 4th, I really wanted to ride to a local show. My old tube was still fine and actually my old tire, though warn was still ok. New one ordered wouldn't show up in time. So I put on the old stuff, took a few very short test rides, all seemed good. Five hours later, the tire was flat. Took it all off again. The tube had a very tiny hole poked in it FROM THE INSIDE! now I really thought this rim would be better than mine. My rim the spoke screws are raised inside. Smooth, but raised. This new rim every spoke sat inside sort of a hole in one thickness of metal. yea well... the top of one screw was razor sharp. And inner tubes will fill any space once pressure is in them. Seems it was enough to push into these pockets, and actually through two rubber strips around the rim also had holes in them. I'm not even going to bother trying to get this replaced. I don't want to look at them again. I just fixed it, and put an extra layer of protection around the rim. Oh and his new and better hub? Yea well there is already some wiggle in that and I haven't even gone a lousy full 100 miles yet. Never ever again. People if you want real work done on a bike, this is NOT the place to get it done. read more

I have been a customer at C&F for a number of years. They go beyond the call of duty for a customer who owns multiple bicycles, but never purchased one from them, not because of their lack of quality, but due to a number of factors: Most particularly the fact that all but one of my rides predates my riding in SW Michigan. There are other reasons as well. One of which brings me to this review. I called up to see if they had Speedplay cleats in stock, which they did.They told me I could have the cleats changed when I came to the store. I rode up to the store, took off my shoes gave them to the mechanic and shopped for a while. I thought that the cleat change was taking longer than expected, and went back to the service area to see what was up. I forgot that the screws in one of my shoes are longer, due to the cleat being built up with wedges. The long the short of it is that the owner, Mike, went out to the local hardware shop to get the proper screws. No questions asked. What great service. I am a repeat customer who will gladly return. We are on vacation at St Joe's and the back tire on our cargo bike came loose somehow and messed up the disc brake as it came loose. Knowing nothing about bike mechanics and figuring that we list the function of this bike for the rest of the vacation, I looked up bike repair on Yelp. Seems there is only 1 in town. I loaded my bike up this morning and took it down to cycle and fitness. I figured it would cost over $100 to repair. It took an hour and cost $39. The mechanic and owner both told me my their repairs to my bike were fine. The bike rode horribly. They insisted that the bike was fine. I brought it to another shop where it was properly repaired. They said they were surprised that cycle and fitness said it was fine when they found it was in need of some obvious improvement. First let me say I am a FRUGAL shopper. I really did not expect that I would purchase a bike from a shop. Maybe online, used, Ebay, some deal somewhere, but probably NOT at a shop. Cycle and Fitness changed my mind. ***Thanks Evan! :-) I now believe going to a bike shop to purchase a new bike is a really good thing to do. And special thanks to Evan, the salesman with the most amazing patience and insight. I'm a new bike rider, and stopped in for the first time to see what I could learn. I asked a zillion questions, and was pleased with the patience and knowledge of the salesman Evan. I am a pretty brutal shopper, asking all sorts of questions about first this bike, then that bike, then all over again about yet a different bike. Evan was just amazingly patient and knowledgeable, taking time and answering all my questions in a way that I could understand, (but managing to be not at all patronizing). I tried a couple bikes, and after listening to my 1,000 questions Evan suggested he could make an adjustment to the handlebars of a bike I was really liking but not quite comfortable about. He disappeared in the back, and a few minutes later the bike had been remodeled a bit for my preference. I took it for a test ride and was just THRILLED! The bike now felt like it had been made for me, it was way way more comfortable with the adjustment he made. PERFECT for me, and exactly what I had been looking for! AND at a better price than I had been able to find online anywhere! I LOVE my new bike, and will be a return customer to Cycle and Fitness- Thanks!
