I agree with the negative reviews already left. "A joke" sums it up! The positive reviews are from…read morebefore this practice was sold. Dr. Meeker was very professional and knowledgeable and seemed to be accomplished/recognized in his field. He is no longer there. He sold the practice during Covid. I had an exam in July and I can't believe how rude everyone was. 1. The front desk staff does not greet in a friendly way and there's a sign saying to wait until you're called and to not approach or hang over the desk. (This may be left over from Covid and they forgot to take it down, but it's not very customer focused to deal with the occasional desk leaner this way). 2. The tech didn't introduce herself and didn't tell me that the machine she was using was the air-blowing machine. Didn't that method get replaced with better technology years ago? 3. When I got in the exam room, I said, "oh can I have some multipurpose solution? My contact is feeling dry." The doctor (Heidi) looked annoyed, didn't say anything to me, and picked up the phone and said, "we've got a problem in here. Come get the patient and take her to the contact room." Then she expressed concern she wouldn't be able to do the exam if my eyes were irritated. I said I just need some solution because one is a little off. It's fine. 4. After that while I waited for the doctor, I put my backpack out of the way on the floor next to the exam chair where I was waiting so that I could put my phone away as soon she back. When she came in, she walked straight over, picked up my bag without asking permission, and said, "I am moving this out of the way. Why do people set things on the floor? Do they know how dirty this floor is?" [What? so basically she's telling me her exam room floor is filthy?] 5. I told the doctor I couldn't do the dilation (because I had to return to work) and that I had called 2 days ahead to let them know that and ask if I should still come or reschedule. (They had said there are no appointments for 6 months so if I wanted an exam, I should still come. When I checked in I reminded them again that I couldn't do the dilation. They said she wouldn't want to do it anyway because it was sunny out.) The doctor said she was not going to do any of the health checks then and I'lll have to come back within 30 days to not be charged a second time. Note they had also "warned" me in the past that if I wanted to order contacts I have to have an exam. 6. When the short exam was over, the doctor told me to follow her out to the desk. I reminded her my contacts were still in the other room where they told me to leave them. She looked annoyed and kept walking toward the desk. I went the other way to get my contacts. I was back at the desk in about a minute, but she was gone and did not come back out to say goodbye or thank me or anything. 7. At the checkout desk, I waited while two people took 10 minutes to figure out how to check me out and order contacts. Neither talked to me or gave me any idea what they were doing or how long it would take. Another woman was in a room nearby taking a break. No other patients were in the open areas. I think there was one other patient in an exam room so the staff weren't otherwise busy. Then the woman taking the break and another worker (the one who did the glaucoma/air check earlier) started complaining about some patients (kids) and how annoying they are in full ear shot of where I was. It was like I was invisible. 8. During my exam, doctor stressed I should have my frames adjusted to make sure they are still fitted right. I made an appointment do do that with John. He fit me in which was nice and I emailed with him directly, but when I showed up for the appt, he looked at me and asked, "What's up?" as if he had no idea why I was there. At the end of the fitting he too complained about other patients. He said, "it's easy when you know what you want me to do but these people who come in and don't know what's wrong with their glasses, I can't help them." So apparently I passed a test but other patients are annoying. Crazy! I'm looking for a new eye dr. immediately and will not be returning even for the service I already paid for because at this point, I don't trust this doctor to dilate my eyes.

If there's a problem, they want to blow it off and act like the customer is being unreasonable. They did give us a refund on the glasses but refused to refund the charges to the insurance. The optician there does not like any kind of pushback against what she says. When describing the problems we were having with a new pair of glasses (and asking for a refund), she didn't like it and accused me of being "aggressive." I was speaking fast, but I was definitely not raising my voice. I asked her a simple question about how lens shape interacts with cylinder orientation. The main thing I wanted to know is if 90 degrees is horizontal, but she couldn't answer. Instead, she told me I was "overthinking" it. I explained how I am an engineer who works with physics all the time, and she snapped back about how she's a licensed optician who deals with lenses all the time. Her response to me is code for "I don't understand what you're asking and don't want to deal with it." Actually, the doctor also told me I was "overthinking" it when I was talking to him about the prismatic effect that occurs at the fringes when you have cylindrical correction with large lenses. What is it with people who can't have a technical conversation in an area where they're supposed to be an expert? Is it unreasonable to expect eye doctors and opticians to be able to discuss really basic things about optics? There is an eye doctor I go to in Owego, Gary Williams, and he has no problem discussing these topics. He's patient and knowledgable and doesn't tell me I'm "overthinking" anything when I want to make sure I get the best possible eye prescription. I'll be taking my other family members there from now on.

I expressed that I was looking for a single pair of glasses with progressive lenses. Kathryn, pointed to the section that I needed, and I went looking for the glasses that suited me. I noticed immediately that all of the glasses and lenses were filthy. Some of the lenses had a dirty sticky residue, which I was not putting on my face. I looked at the premium frames on the other side of the store and saw that they were clean to touch and try on. I picked out a frame I liked and asked about the price, and other features. I ended up purchasing the glasses and paid for my purchase. I used cash as the method of payment, because that was all I had, and they didn't accept my insurance. I went in on 1/18/2026 to pick up my glasses and noticed immediately that the color I got was not what I ordered. And the lenses that I ordered didn't have the anti-glare/protective coating that I had requested. I decided just to leave it alone at that time, as I was already a month past needing the new prescription. I wore the glasses for 8 day's and noticed that when I would clean the lenses, the lense would pop out of the upper part of the metal frame, and there were these black spots that started to appear on the bottom of both lenses, that wouldn't come off when cleaning. I took the glasses back to America's Best on 1/28/2026 and I spoke to Diana, and showed her the issues that I was having, along with the glasses not being the color that I ordered, as well as not having the protective coating. Diana, told me that she didn't see the issues that I had pointed out, but also told me that the lenses popping out of the frame was normal.. I disagreed and requested a full refund. Diana, told me that I would receive a check by mail withing 1-3 weeks, not including weekends. I told Diana, that I paid in cash, as the receipt had showed, and I wanted cash back! Diana, stated that getting cash back wasn't going to happen. I asked to speak with a manager, or someone over her, and Diana stated that she was the manager. I will never do business with America's Best, or any of their other companies in the future, nor do I recommend anyone to do business with them. ( Google, states that America's Best offers a no questions asked full refund, between 30-120 day's from the purchase price, if the glasses were defective from the company. But does not state how you'll receive your refund.

Anyway, you don't need to know all the details, just that she acknowledged my frustration with the post-COVID corporate hellscape that is Centralized Human Resources Centers that Visionworks unsurprisingly takes part in. This is obviously beyond her control, but what WAS in her control was the kindness and humor she showed my wife and I in making things right. Each follow up was in kind, and we ended up purchasing a set of glasses in addition to the contacts. In a calamity of errors (it's hard to stop tripping down a set of stairs), the trial pair of contacts was in the wrong Rx, but this was quickly resolved with the on-site doctor. At that point, it was just funny, and we all had a good-ol Karen laugh about it. The gentleman who adjusted her glasses today was super kind. Once my wife - who's only period of rapid decision making has been saying yes to my proposal - had lunch and realized she needed a second adjustment just 20 minutes after these poor people thought they were finally rid of us, he happily made the necessary adjustments to the princess and the pea while Kelly hid from us behind her desk. Needless to say, we told her "see you real soon!" In conclusion, corporate center robots in no way represent the awesome human beings you will interface with at the store, and I encourage you to give this place your business. Just be sure to never let them know I sent you.
