I knew this was coming, but figured with KGO also dropping news, they would of reconsidered, since they would pick up some new listeners. KCBS doesn't please everybody. KLIV had some really useful traffic reports, covering the expressways and local streets that the other stations won't even touch. Plus I will miss the secret sound contest! This is the most disheartening format change KLIV's made since they dropped their rock format years ago.

It needs to have a program guide. Impossible to find what programs are playing or when. The on-line program schedule does not match what is being shown. I checked it for three weeks and it never changed. I've seen good ethnic programs that look locally produced. Some in foreign languages. But no way to find out what is being shown or when because there is no program guide. Now shows come on randomly instead of on the hour or half hour. Some very bad quality video has been shown in the past that thankfully is no longer seen (Milpitas Magazine was a good idea but too often badly made, some black lady's Bible study used to be on every day). Somebody should be filtering. Some training for their staff would be good. Maybe they are all students or kids? Compared to other city cable access channels, like KMTV, or CreaTV, or CMAP, this channel does not measure up.

The music is always great. They have the best alternative music and really good DJ's. They play a great mix of new music and older music. They also play songs that no other station will play because they are not singles. But the DJ's have a great ear and know what their listeners will like. There are also very few commercials which is a definite plus! If you like alternative then you'll love this station!

Plus shouts to Faco, long timer and the best radio DJ around! Im kind of shocked one of the commercial stations around hasnt picked him up yet. Straight up entertainment. As mentioned before, it has its ups and downs, dead air and broadcasting snafus. Sometimes the DJs just arent playing good music- but they dont tend to stick with it. So its totally hit or miss. Still, punch the button and 50/50 you are going to hear something new and incredible.

Now, I'm into the backpacker underground stuff as much as the next man (I used to play hip hop on 90.5 KSJS), but there is definitely a place in my rotation for some hit pop. The DJ's aren't the greatest, since they are all student trainees at a JC (not on the level as us KSJS'ers), but that's not what you listen for. Also, one of the few shows that breaks away from the Top 40 format is "Lowridin' with JJ," and it is one of the finest programs on any station! It basically talks about local issues within the Latino community, and he spins some great Motown oldies to go along with it. I'm not Latino myself, and don't ask me how Motown is at all related to their subject matter, but JJ is one cool dude, nonetheless! Someone needs to sign this man right now! He deserves to be on the professional airwaves.

They play more variety and not the same old stuff like the other 2 stations (94.9 & 106.1) They play the same stuff over and over.. 89.3 throws in some rock and other types of music. Yeah some may be a bit inexperienced, but you gotta start somewhere. Ya know what I mean?
