You remind me of my dogs, in a good way - faithful, loyal, always a friend. You don't excite me like my wife does, you rarely get my blood pulsing. But you almost always put a smile on my face. I'm sorry to say that while you are first on my presets, you are usually the last to come to mind during my morning drive. In the political vein that we are in these days, the Bone is my Republican friend, KFOG is my Democratic associate, and you are the middle of the road buddy. This morning the BONE guys were rambling on about having their large, overweight intern do lap dances for other men in a thong (an American Idol controversy thing). Sorry guys, you are boring me. So I went to KFOG, but the music they were playing just didn't keep me interested. So I switched to KFOX and was greeted with Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" followed by "Sweet Emotion" and then "You Shook Me" (two of my favorite songs from Aerosmith and AC/DC respectively). That woke me back up for the rest of my drive. Greg Kihn may ramble on at times, but he can sure pull in some great guests from the rock world ("My love's in jeopardy, baby. Oooo-a-ooo-ooo."). He may be a has been in the rock world, and he talks to much in the morning. Probably the main reason I don't listen to them too much. Side note, his son Ry is a wiz on the guitar. But when the Sharks are playing, that's a different story. That alone gets KFOX a few stars. Only station in the area that carries the games. Just wish I got them better up in the East Bay, 98.5 out of Sacramento tends to interfere. read more

Used to live kfox when it was actually based in San jose. They're studios are actually in Daly city..weird for a " south bay station" I checked with their GM and he emailed me. This station ROCKS!!! I don't know how long I have been a fan but a long time now.. This genre of music is the kind my dad use to listen to.. he played the harmonica himself, he would get his groove on with the beats. I love this station, every year KFOX host battle of the bands which local high schools compete for prizes contributing to their music program. This is badass not only do the kids compete (And freaking ROCK IT!) which I'm sure can be stressful but I think it promotes a sense of responsibility for the kids to put their heart in something... own it. Last year High school Jazz bands and orchestras participated, and I loved to hear the different variances or their interpretations.. to these classic songs. Where is your station set? Cause if you don't have 98.5 locked in your missing out! read more

I used to love you KFOX....you guys reminded me of good old summer days and long summer nights. THEN something happened....you guys made the incredibly stupid mistake of getting rid of Greg in the mornings (Seriously don't even get me started on that, idiots!) then you changed to basically be a station that plays played out 90s rock and throws in a true classic rock song here and there. There is no where to go for true classic rock anymore and that I tell you, is sad....very sad indeed. Get Greg back, find the records you used to play and quit worrying about what the bone is doing, they sucked when you guys were great...now I have even flipped the station to find exactly the same song playing. Matter of fact you guys went from number one on my presets to number six....and my mom who loved you guys actually pays for Pandora and iheartradio now and I hasn't turned on the radio in months. read more

They play a lot of good classic rock on the station and the triple shot weekends are nice. Big thumbs up for helping out local school, charities, and musicians with stuff like the School of Rock contests. Not to many commercials during the day and the weekend is usually pretty good about that as well. They play sharks games whenever they are on (which is 82 times a year) so if that's your thing, there you go. Minus 3 stars for Greg Kihn. His band sucks and he's a washed up nobody. Let me repeat that.....his band sucks and he can't sing. The sidekick on his show Chris is a great guitar player, good singer, nice guy, and really helps keep the morning show a little more tolerable. Greg is a tool. He asks guests the dumbest questions and whenever he starts talking about the glory days your gonna want to shoot yourself. And he's in love with the sound of his own voice. Most overrated classic rock morning guy there ever was. read more

Three words: Triple Shot Weekends I really like a lot of things about this station. They have the Last Band Standing Contest, and then they give the winners and finalists in the competition plenty of opportunities to showcase their talents. They do the School of Rock Contest that gives large donations to middle and high school music programs. They have the Charity Jocks Auction, they have Pet-o-Rama. They are so much more than a simple music station. But then, the music kicks ass, too. I Love KFOX. read more

I usually tune in after 10am after Greg Kihn to catch me some Alphabet Soup. Two-for-Tuesdays and Triple Shot weekends are also great. I usually stream online while at work and it makes me feel legit learning classic rock titles and artists from KFOX rather than from Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Dan Rusanowski and Sharks Radio is probably one of the best things about this station. He's got such a great radio voice and makes listening to game almost as good as watching it. The only negative I have is the DJs often talk about things from the past as if they were still new. I don't really care that artist X was in the news on this day 30 yrs ago for Y reason.. I get that it's "history" but I want to listen to music, not a history lesson. read more

Classic rock. Sharks games live on the radio and online Greg Kihn isn't obnoxious like other morning show hosts. Now you can listen to KFOX from the North Bay to the South Bay and beyond. Taking over Northern California like hella. It really doesn't get any better. read more

I feel like I have grown up with KFOX. Feels like family almost. Although in truth I grew up with KOME which slowly turned into KFOX (slightly uncertain of this but I believe it's true) despite an alternative dip in the mid 90's. Should KFOX expand their music library to include 90's? Of course!, this is by definition classic rock. And though I hate to admit it, someday bands like Linkin Park will be included. This is age and happens. I can roll with it. Some of my favorite bands were from the 90's so I'm a little biased. The DJs are always great! CJ and his knowledge of Classic Rock, what with his mystery riffs etc, just adds color and familiarity. He experienced the rock scene personally so he is a plus in my book. The new morning guy (at this writing) is Joey, and a fast talker, smooth at the mic and seems to like his audience, talks to them all the time. KFOX and 107.7 The Bone are the go-to rock stations. I hold KFOX a little higher because it is classier. The bone is for more juvenile ears (of which I have often). As long as they keep rockin me baby, I'm a big fan and will remain so. If they could get Greg Kihn back, that would be the cherry. read more

Besides 107.7 "The Bone" this is my last safe haven for classic rock. My friend Chris and I always complain about how we'll never hear Mandatory Metallica and stuff anymore because 92.3 became a Spanish station. Of course you won't hear Metallica on here, but the classic rock selection they play on this station is great. My biggest complaint is that they play "Wheel In The Sky" by Journey FAR too much. I swear every other time I've switched over to 98.5 I hear this song playing. I'm never up early enough to catch Greg Kihn in the morning consistently, but from what I have heard it sounds fun, fun, fun. They play The Beatles and The Rolling Stones very often on here, so if you're a fan of 60's rock then you're in for a treat. They also play bands like CCR, Led, etc., but I would like them to play Peter Frampton's "Show Me The Way" a lot more than they play "Wheel In The Sky". Plus this station has Sharks games on, so that's always good. However, when the Sharks lost Game 2 in the Nashville series all I heard was a terrible audio onslaught when the Predators would not stop scoring. read more

I like the overall mix, the DJs & the morning show. Chris Jackson & his mystery riffs make a really cool, unique addition to the standard format -- especially since I can almost always name that tune. One of the best things about the station is customer service. These guys are unusually responsive to feedback, and willing to bend over backward for their listeners -- without seeming desperate. If I could tweak the playlists just a little bit, and nix the sports (that's what AM is for), I'd only turn the dial at commercials. Side note about the sports coverage -- Romo was a helluva player, and he clearly has a ton of knowledge & love for the game. But holy buckets, the ego on this guy -- no wonder his neck & shoulders are still so muscular after retirement! I wish he could still play the game instead of talking about it, and you know he feels the same... read more

You know you're getting up there in age when you start listening to Classic Rock! :) But I live for nostalgia! I'm listening to this local station and with each song that comes on, I'm reminiscing about my younger days. I love it! Greg Kihn (from the Greg Kihn Band of the 80s) in the morning is great too! I could never get the Fox up here in San Francisco. I had to rely on The Bone or The Band for my classic rock. Both are fine, but the Bone can be a little heavy at times, and The Band can get a little stale. Now I have a third option. Very tasty. Great sound, too. Very clear signal now that they are on 102.1 FM. I also noticed I could stream onto my desktop and guess what? The sound did NOT suck. Most streams are of such low bitrate, they are unlistenable. I have decent computer speakers (2.1 from Creative Sound Labs) and consider myself an audiophile. Thank you The Fox for coming to San Francisco. Can't wait to crank you up on way home. I'll have to put some classical music on my iPod for when I miss KDFC. read more

Greg Kihn and Greg Stone are gone, and the station is trying to move into the 1990's. Not good moves either way.

OK, not great. How is this called classic rock? Is music from the 90s classic rock? Music from the 60s, 70s and maybe some of the 80s is classic rock. The station is marginal in my opinion. KFOX is definitely a pretty solid station. The clarity at which they broadcast is nice, since they are out of San Jose and I listen in S.F. Overall the selection of music that they play is good, unfortunately they have way too many repeats so I have to ding them a star. I like the Steve Miller Band and Journey, but seriously they get overplayed sometimes. Like Jenn P. says the two-for Tuesdays and Triple-Shot Weekends are great, I don't listen to the Greg Kihn show but if I did I am sure hoping it is better than Lamont and Tinnelly on the Bone (because they are idiots). I like KFOX in particular because they play a lot of music (not too much rant) and they are not afraid to play a song that is longer than four or five minutes. The fact that KFOX is also the station on which the Sharks are broadcast definitely keeps them at a solid four stars. I liked when KFRC was brought back for a few months, but now that they scrapped it again I will listen to KFOX. read more

What happened to this station? I have listened to 98.5 since I was a teenager in the 70's when classic rock was contemporary. I feel betrayed after all these years because they seem to be shifting to the one hit wonders of the 80"s. 80's weekend seems to be every weekend now. And during the week, you still get the crap that the 80's put out. Not to get me wrong but the music of the 80's does not pass the test of time. How many 80's bands are selling out concert venues. Not many because they are on the county fair circuit. There is a reason why Mcartney, stones, Bruce, and Clapton still sell out crowds in the big concert venues. Too bad Kfox lost that concept. I guess i will have to flip over to The bone. There music is a little too punk or grunge at times, but I could still get the Led out and rock to Zeppelin. Sorry KFOX, I feel betrayed by your change of format. Get back to what made 98.5 rock CLASSIC ROCK!!! read more

I used to really like this radio station a few years back when they would concentrate mainly on Classic Rock, it seemed like the perfect niche for them. I cannot believe that they did it again! The people who are making these desicions need to pull their heads out. I have listened for years and the first mistake they made was when they removed Laurie Roberts, thank god they brought her back. Now they have taken away my morning show guy who really brought fun to the start of my day. From what I have heard so far with this new format I do not like it. The music sounds like what you could hear on any other station in the bay area. Change it back and bring Greg back! read more

Would love to have you go a little deeper on the albums, and wish the songs had a little more edge (Foreigner? followed by the Doobie Brothers? really?). I enjoyed Greg Kihns old show, even if the play list was smaller that it could have been. He was a nice guy with interesting interviews from time to time. This "new" show only slightly changed this, they added a few 90s songs and an occasional Bob Marley? is this rock?...no, it just doesnt fit. Now the replacement host is really bad, she trys to be funny, but falls short, not to mention her left leaning politics which doesnt belong in this format. They need to just play music, and shut the blank up. read more
