This station fits my morning melodrama perfectly. It turns my pitiful personal soap opera into a glorious Almodovar film. Ay.

I feel like I have grown up with KFOX. Feels like family almost. Although in truth I grew up with…read moreKOME which slowly turned into KFOX (slightly uncertain of this but I believe it's true) despite an alternative dip in the mid 90's. Should KFOX expand their music library to include 90's? Of course!, this is by definition classic rock. And though I hate to admit it, someday bands like Linkin Park will be included. This is age and happens. I can roll with it. Some of my favorite bands were from the 90's so I'm a little biased. The DJs are always great! CJ and his knowledge of Classic Rock, what with his mystery riffs etc, just adds color and familiarity. He experienced the rock scene personally so he is a plus in my book. The new morning guy (at this writing) is Joey, and a fast talker, smooth at the mic and seems to like his audience, talks to them all the time. KFOX and 107.7 The Bone are the go-to rock stations. I hold KFOX a little higher because it is classier. The bone is for more juvenile ears (of which I have often). As long as they keep rockin me baby, I'm a big fan and will remain so. If they could get Greg Kihn back, that would be the cherry.

You remind me of my dogs, in a good way - faithful, loyal, always a friend. You don't excite me…read morelike my wife does, you rarely get my blood pulsing. But you almost always put a smile on my face. I'm sorry to say that while you are first on my presets, you are usually the last to come to mind during my morning drive. In the political vein that we are in these days, the Bone is my Republican friend, KFOG is my Democratic associate, and you are the middle of the road buddy. This morning the BONE guys were rambling on about having their large, overweight intern do lap dances for other men in a thong (an American Idol controversy thing). Sorry guys, you are boring me. So I went to KFOG, but the music they were playing just didn't keep me interested. So I switched to KFOX and was greeted with Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" followed by "Sweet Emotion" and then "You Shook Me" (two of my favorite songs from Aerosmith and AC/DC respectively). That woke me back up for the rest of my drive. Greg Kihn may ramble on at times, but he can sure pull in some great guests from the rock world ("My love's in jeopardy, baby. Oooo-a-ooo-ooo."). He may be a has been in the rock world, and he talks to much in the morning. Probably the main reason I don't listen to them too much. Side note, his son Ry is a wiz on the guitar. But when the Sharks are playing, that's a different story. That alone gets KFOX a few stars. Only station in the area that carries the games. Just wish I got them better up in the East Bay, 98.5 out of Sacramento tends to interfere.

So KSCU is my all time favorite radio station. Its what I grew up on and it keeps mining amazing…read morenew music. When it comes down to it random kids from Cali suburbs can program a much better radio show than 40 year olds working for clear channel trying to hype the money makers. Plus shouts to Faco, long timer and the best radio DJ around! Im kind of shocked one of the commercial stations around hasnt picked him up yet. Straight up entertainment. As mentioned before, it has its ups and downs, dead air and broadcasting snafus. Sometimes the DJs just arent playing good music- but they dont tend to stick with it. So its totally hit or miss. Still, punch the button and 50/50 you are going to hear something new and incredible.

This really pains me, but i have to write an honest review. KSCU is just not a very good station…read morefor one main reason: there arent enough deejays that work there. Thus, more times than not, there is a compilation playing rather than a real live person spinning music. Sometimes there will even be just dead air. Yes i could write about the glory days of KSCU and how it used to be an amazing college radio station, but then the review would be pointless. Yelping, to me at least, is about NOW. They do still co-sponsor midnight movies at the camera cinemas, and I give them a star for that. the other star is for the few deejays they do have. But i have to go back to this: with the same comps. playing the same songs over and over again, kscu is just really hard to listen to. someday they might get back to their old ways, but until they do, 2 stars it is.

"You…read moreknow they're playing it somewhere, but you have to find it."― Jeffrey Eugenides, The Virgin Suicides KKUP is a 100% listener-supported radio station that's been in operation for 40+years here in the South Bay and staffed only by volunteers. They play an eclectic array of music, have informative talk shows and music marathons to help drum-up support (i.e., money) throughout the year. I rarely listen to traditional terrestrial radio anymore, as I usually am either casting music I've downloaded or listening to commercial-free satellite radio, but when I do listen it's usually to KKUP. The Good: -It's commercial-free -I like their theme music shows such as Reggae Mondays, Gaelic Thursdays and Aloha Fridays. -There's also a gardening show I like to listen to on occasion, as well as a cooking one. The Meh: -The station signal is pretty weak and hard to pick-up at certain locations throughout the city. You can also listen online at http://player.streamguys.com/kkup/sgplayer3/player.php The Ugly: -These are not professional DJs but sometimes they're downright awful--the worst is the Reggae Mondays guy who mumbles his way throughout the announcements. You can probably guess why (allegedly), but I'm not going to say it... ;)

Number One. In your hood…read more From Morgan Hill to South San Fran, keep it fresh by tuning your airwaves in to 90.5FM KSJS. Or stream online. There is really absolutely no excuse not to. I've been listening to college stations since the early 90s yet find myself still in love with 90.5 nearly two decades later. Yeesh, I just gave my age away! OH WELL. I'm deeply rooted to this station so much so that my little ones know who's on air when we listen in. Now, that's what's up. KSJS supports and showcases local artists and talent from all walks of life allowing the general public the benefit of being part of such art and insight into what's going on and who's doing what in their community.

I used to be a DJ here from 1996 to 1998 and it was a great experience and still is a great station…read moreto listen to because of all the diverse music formats and shows the station had to offer featuring under represented music not found on commercial radio where I came across a lot of excellent music from a punk metal hard perspective as well as opened up my mind to other genres including jazz up to walking away with a production piece keepsake of my own. KSJS is a gateway and experience for those wanting to learn about broadcasting etc. and a great way to meet and work with good people. My passion was more audio over video and left with the basics of digital audio editing that can now be done with simple software on a home computer. For those at KSJS and however you are involved in the station enjoy your time there and get the most out of it. For those listening be open minded and stop judging the occasional belch because I got away with a lot more on A 2 to 6 am shift which would never have been possible on commercial radio and probably said at least one thing in the early am during a traffic report that probably was not ideal but not offensive. It was a wild time for me back in day meeting drunken rhythm Jazz and blues artists and being in close quarters with them laying down legal ids and liners from then station one of which was featured on a sports weekly segment because it was off the wall funny. Those days I do miss and wish I would have stayed involved longer but the real world called me in 1998 and I started my next chapter. Highly recommend the experience to SJSU students regardless of their major and to judgmental listeners, cut the station a break as you might not find this style of college radio or freedom anywhere else. Tune in online and phone in your requests and if it meshes with the DJs show the you might find it honored in 15 minutes or less as the technology is more instantaneous depending on your request. I wish KSJS well now and in the future with many years of longevity to come and yes it will change with history. Wild times in the 20th century and wild times today and KSJS covers it all. Support your local college radio station out there in San Jose. Peace out.
