Maybe it is because it is one of those places where you can stroll through and I can then say that I have been there, and as such I can then write a review on it. Well, as far as shopping centres go, in particular Westfield shopping Centres, this one really isn't all that big. Still, they have everything that you would expect in a shopping centre, and a reasonable range of shops, as far as shopping centres go of course. Not surprisingly they are all big name brands as well.

This place was a big freaking deal when it first opened. One of the first Westfields. The very…read morefirst Westfield was in Blacktown, just west of here. The name Westfield is derived from "west" related to the West-Sydney location, and "field" due to having located on subdivided farmland. But this one in Burwood was close to follow, called Westfield Shoppingtown back then. Went back to check it out in November 2012, and it looked a little hokey and cramped. Things seem so big when you are small. Who would want to grocery shop here now? Seems a little bit like a relic, and the stores are kinda lame now. Wish I could give it more than two stars. Wikipedia says that Westfield Group currently has interests in total assets worth Aus$58 billion, owning 119 shopping malls in four countries - Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States - with over 10 million square meters of retail space. It is the world's largest retail property group. I've never heard this, but it seems to me they want to have the name Westfield synonymous with the term "mall", so they drop the word "mall" from the name of a shopping center they buy and refurbish. There are huge Westfields in Santa Ana near where I live, and Topanga Canyon in LA for example that had their name changed from "mall".

There really isn't anything all that special about this shopping centre, which did surprise me…read moresomewhat considering that it does happen to be located at one of those very, very major railway stations. I guess having Burwood just down the road does have an effect upon it though. Yeah, it is pretty basic, and doesn't have a huge range of shops, but does provide what is needed to an extent.

I often shop at Strathfield plaza. Both toilet ( opposite the Australia post and next to Woolworth)…read moreare always filthy. The floor is full of urine and the worst part is there is NO HOOK on the door to put the bag. I often go to the medical centre on the 2nd floor to use the toilet, I still have to wait forever because the lifts are very small. The management seriously need to look at the toilet

The only reason people seem to frequent Strathfield Plaza, other than to do their all-important…read morebare-bones grocery shopping of course, is to grab a bite to eat from the Oporto facing Raw Square. And it's understandable - Strathfield Plaza is the definition of bare bones. Literally one level - one level! - of a few shops that you might stumble across apart from the big fat Woolies and the chemist's from time to time. It's quite literally nothing.

This is a great shopping centre. It is right beside the train station, buses frequently pass by and…read morethere is always a car spot in the car park. The biggest attraction to this centre is IKEA. It is open long hours and there is designated parking areas for picking up that large box, which later will lovingly be put together! Ha There are a range of good restaurants at the centre and Reading Theatre. Be careful that you drive in only once to the car park. You can't re enter during the same day, this is to prevent people driving in and driving out within 3 hours and hope to get another 3 free hours of parking. The number plates are photographed. I have seen people argue at the gate while the traffic is building up... not a pretty site.
