Great doc. Unsafe facility for crips. "Team" can't refill a standing prescription to save my life.read more

Honestly the only reason I come to this facility is because my PCP is here and I've been his…read morepatient since before I had need for specialists. He's amazing and would get five stars on his own. Unfortunately... the rest of the place leaves something to be desired. The front desk staff is overwhelmingly Christian, which is perhaps to be expected from a pseudo-Catholic hospital affiliate. I'm sure that's great for their mental health, if not their eternal souls, but it does leave one with the issues one generally has with loudly-Christian folk, including self-righteousness, ableism, and homophobia. They've recently taken down the "inspirational" (read: prejudiced) printouts wallpapering many cubicles so we'll see how that goes. I have not had much luck here with specialists: My wife, a friend, and I have been refused exams (by different doctors) because of being overweight. I was told "fat people have pain" as if I am too stupid to tell the difference between mild arthritis and a displaced kneecap. Whoopsie! My wife was accused of drug-seeking after a brutal car accident; I got the same from a different doctor because I worked at a pharmacy for years and used the word "drug" instead of "medication" to describe my super-exciting and TOTALLY recreational cholesterol and blood pressure meds. Despite a pair of vicious surgery scars, I was informed that the surgery I had didn't exist. After I paid out of pocket for copies of 24-year-old paper medical records from a non-affiliated hospital, the doctor acknowledged that I had had the surgery but I just didn't know the right name for it. She refused to tell me the "correct" name. I could go on, and I could name names, but the bottom line is that this is a PERVASIVE issue in the culture of the practice. Patients are treated more like enemy combatants than partners in healthcare. There is a saying or belief in Baltimore about doctors. You go to Hopkins if you're good enough You go to University of Maryland if you can stand the politics You go to Mercy if you can stand the religious culture You go to GBMC if you can't stand either You go to MedStar if no one else will hire you ...Overlea just so often fails to live up to Mercy's place on that list.

Every time I arrive at his practice they have been expecting me; I never wait. In fact, I'm usually running a little late and I get a friendly call inquiring if I hit traffic and what my ETA will be. Immediately I'm able to see my doctor. Lou is extremely thorough, thoughtful, and his follow up is unbelievable. Lou is just different than other doctors. I'll give you an example, my medical record shows that I started taking an antidepressant during my separation/divorce. Most doctors would see the obvious reason/cause for such a prescription. However, Lou knowing that I had just moved to Baltimore from San Francisco delved deeper and he wanted to know how I was coping with this transition and more importantly how I was getting along with creating new friends and socials groups. He precribed me rec league team sports to foster new friendships. That's a superhuman kind of listening that you don't acquire or get to use in a traditional rushed primary care setting. Lou being a participating doctor of MDVIP seems to empower a terrific physician to be superhero physician. Every visit I've had with Lou is similar as he goes deeper than I thought possible or have experienced in the pastx That one time he referred me to GI specialist just to be sure he didn't miss anything, well Lou's diagnosis was spot on whereas the GI doc was "unsure". When the CT scan was complete, it was Lou who called me personally within 30 minutes of it being read by the radiologist whereas the GI took the standard 24 hours to call me. In fact, it was actually his staff member that did the calling. I believe Lou cares about my health more than I do. I feel as if I am Lou's only patient to rationalize why he is so attentive with me. However, I understand his practice has nearly the max capacity of 600 patients that MDVIP allows to ensure personalized patient focus, which is way better than being just one of a few thousand like my previous doctor. And yes, I'm on a first name basis with my doctor because when someone knows you as well how can you not be? I cannot say enough great things about Lou. While he is my primary care doctor, in just a short year, he really feels like a friend who knows and cares more about my well being, than most of my actual friends.

His MDVIP-affiliated practice is open to new patients, including Medicare and commercially insured, in Baltimore. Dr. Malinow sees fewer patients, which means he has more time to offer. His practice offers the MDVIP Wellness Program, which includes advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests that have been shown to help detect issues earlier.

I decided to give the new location a try since I had being going to True Care for about 10 years. The negative experience started when I walked in the door. The office was very outdated. Looked like a blast from about 20 years ago. The lady at check in was very rude and seemed confused. It took about 15 minutes for the check in process.and should have walked out the door. I waited a few minutes before I was called to see the doctor. Vitals were taken and I waited a few minutes for the doctor to come into the room. The doctor came in and said that she reviewed my file. We went over my meds and was asked to get on the table so that she could listen to my heart and lungs. I sat back in the chair and I tried to strike up a conversation about taking magnesium for my Achalasia, which is a mobility disease of the esophagus. No conversation back from the doctor. I was given a blank stare and that was that. The total time spent with the doctor was about ten minutes if that. I wasted my $40.00 co pay on a visit with a new doctor who didn't even go over my health history. I have since chosen an new primary care doctor and will not recommend any patients from the Dundalk location to transfer to the Parkville location.

Dr. Weiner has been my primary care physician since 1984. He is a wonderful doctor and a wonderful…read moreperson. He literally saved my life in 1995 when he received a copy of a blood test result that my then-urologist had ordered. Dr. Weiner phoned me to alert me that there may be a problem, saying the urologist might want to do a scan. When I went to the urologist's office he told me that everything was OK, so have another test in 6 months. When I told the urologist about Dr. Weiner's call, he (the urologist) became miffed and said "If it'll make you feel better, we can do a scan." He did the scan and found I had prostate cancer. So I had a prostatectomy (needless to say, I didn't have that urologist do it). Since I was under the direct care of the urologist, Dr. Weiner was under no obligation to alert me as he did. Another time, the day before I was scheduled to fly to London to make a presentation at a professional seminar, I came down with an ailment. I phoned his office to see if he could see me on an emergency basis, and was told that the earliest he could see me was on the day of my flight. However, I went to his office the day before the flight and he worked me in during his lunch break--he gave me a prescription and some instructions, which fixed me up and I was able to take the flight to London. This was important to my career as I was invited back several times in later years to make presentations; had I missed that first invitation at the last minute, I may well not have been invited back. I could cite many other plaudits of Dr. Weiner's practice with me as a patient. He invariably returns phone calls the same day and spends all the time you need to talk. He has never kept me waiting more than a minute or two at most when I go to his office by appointment; again, he never rushes me through. Marshall H. Pinnix 7/27/07

I would not recommend making an appointment with Dr. Vissing…read more I scheduled and appointment for myself to establish a new primary care physician Dr. Vissing came in, read from the history in my pre-registration form, did a physical, and asked if I had any issues and if I wanted bloodwork. No attempt to establish any type or patient/physician relationship. I described the only issue I have been having, and he prescribed me an anti-depressant because it would also help with my symptoms, although I'm not experiencing any of the symptoms associated with depression. Understandable that medicine can be used for treatment of other things. Totally irresponsible to prescribe me a new medication that is known to have side effects that can alter your brain chemistry and then tell me to schedule a follow-up in ONE YEAR. The only reason I am giving two stars is because the rest of the staff was fantastic

However, over the last 6 months, I have experienced MANY office communication problems. This is across the board with specialists and primary care physicians. The providers' staff DO NOT return phone calls or respond to messages. I had to physically walk into the back of my primary doctor's office, (without an appointment, and no one at the front desk) to get a referral for PT after calling four times with the request. The nurse was concerned she hadn't gotten the messages, and I showed her my call log to verify the contacts. This is just one example, we have had three other concerning encounters involving cancelled appointments (on their end), records not being forwarded to specialists outside the site, and an inability to schedule or reschedule appointments as no one returns our calls. Primary doctors and nurse practitioners retire or resign and there are no replacements, the existing doctors are stretched thin. We unfortunately, after 30+ years, will be looking for a location.
