Welp, joke's on me- the national gallery is closed until 2020 and it's moving and there's no air conditioning. But there are things to like about this hotel. However, it felt like a hostel to me (see pictures of room and hallways). Food was the best thing and the people who work here are delightful and speak excellent English. The room- dark, small, of poor repair, little storage and no safe. Also, the doors don't lock unless hit them with a key on the way out-or that's the way ours worked. And you must lock with the handle once inside- or anyone can come in. That's unusual to those of us who are used to self locking doors. The hotel is in a janky area now- jack hammers (yes, jack hammers) going all day. I've taken pictures of the area around the hotel. It's very near the university, but so is the Thon and one of the Radisson Blu hotels- if I have to come to Oslo again I'll stay there. Hallways are black and gray. Kind of weird. The parking was a real hassle as it is not close to the hotel and the instructions leave a lot to be desired. The check in and check out processes were very slow and inconvenient. I had to wait ten minutes while checking in before someone came to teh desk. (Even after ringing the bell multiple times) They have both a breakfast and dinner buffet included in my price. The food was very decent. This was my first stay at this hotel and I don't thik I'll return. There's just too many other options to be bothered with inconvenience.

The decorative ceilings of Lars Backer have been unveiled and recreated, the original Thonet chairs have been renovated and the three famous Krohg paintings have been preserved. There is a step up from the room floor level so that leaves a hazardous step down to exit. Something to keep in mind, especially at night. Also, there are no safety bars in marble floored shower so it's very very slippery. I also kept tripping on the door sill entering the room from the hallway. Our stay included a buffet breakfast. It was quite extensive with hot and cold items. If it weren't for the safety issues with the bathroom, I'd rate the hotel four stars. No one should risk broken bones while on vacation.

Breakfast is included and a few of us travelers didn't care for it. My husband hated the scrabble eggs, thought they even could have been powdered. Maybe this is typical here, but we have stayed at plenty of other hotels, that were much better. It is centrally located and you can walk to shops and restaurants. There is major construction all around that will continue for sometime.

You're also within walking distance of the Opera House, Karl Johans gate, and lots of restaurants and shops. The hotel itself is clean, modern, and straightforward. Check-in is done at self-service kiosks, which was quick and painless, and the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. My room was on the smaller side, but it was well designed with good storage, a comfortable bed, and a nice shower. Wi-Fi worked perfectly too. A couple of things to keep in mind: this isn't a full-service hotel. There's no daily housekeeping unless you ask, and there's no restaurant on site, just a breakfast bag you can buy or snacks at the "barception." If you want more variety, there are great bakeries and cafés right outside. Also, if you're sensitive to noise, ask for a courtyard-facing room since the station area can be lively at night. Overall, I'd say this place is perfect if you want a clean, affordable, and super central base in Oslo without paying for extras you might not need. I'd definitely stay here again.

Oddly enough, the barista/bartender apparently serves as the hotel receptionist too, but you might not always spot the person there. We took the elevator to the 7th floor and entered the room. We had a little difficulty finding how to turn on the lights. We had to put the key card that we just made into a panel on the wall and push down hard so that it was seated properly. Once in, the wall switches and lamps worked. Bathroom/shower is one big room. No curtain, but it was easy to contain the water in the corner and not get it everywhere. The balcony is awesome. the view directly across is a parking garage, but the balcony itself is nice wood plank with evergreens in planters and cute modern chairs. I enjoyed hanging out on our rooftop patio and cleaning up before catching the midnight train to Bergen. This place was so close to the train station too. We were able to walk there with our suitcases in tow with ease. I would certainly recommend this place for the high tech, independent traveler that just needs a clean, simple place to crash for a few hours before heading back out for more adventures.

The…read morecarpet in the main halls were dirty and I don't think they were cleaned even once while we were there. Outside of the door to our room someone has shattered a glass and the shards could be seen in the carpet. We asked the front desk everyday to have it vacuumed up but did NOT happen during our stay. Two major lights in our room did not work, I assumed that the bulbs were burned out. Everyday we asked that they be looked at and fixed but that never happened either. On our arrival to Oslo, one of our airline bags did not arrive. The airline was gong to deliver it the next morning. I went to the front desk and asked them to please notify me as soon as the bag was delivered and they said that they would. After waiting for hours the next day, I got a message from the company delivering the bag that said that they had delivered it over an hour earlier. I went to the front desk and they said, "let go look". They opened the bag room door and there was my bag that had been delivered earlier. No notification from the hotel as had been asked for. This was a HORRIBLE hotel and a horrible stay. Anyone thinking of staying there should look elsewhere.
