I went to Hal Martin's specifically for their Rolex reputation and explained that I wanted a thorough inspection and appraisal of an unusual vintage Rolex, with documentation to remain with the watch as part of its provenance. Tarang acknowledged that it was a vintage watch and never indicated that it was outside their expertise. Because they didn't have the proper tool to open the caseback, he sent me to Swiss Chronometers, referring to them as "my mechanical workshop." I followed his instructions, paid $216.50 for the inspection, and returned to Hal Martin's expecting the appraisal and documentation we had discussed. The process then became frustratingly disorganized. Photos and information I sent to Hal were not passed to Jonathan, so I repeatedly had to explain the situation. I also learned that the inspection report I expected would not be provided. Jonathan ultimately questioned the watch's authenticity because of its unusual 6636/6627 reference combination and suggested I take it to Rolex. I respect an appraiser's right to reach a different professional opinion. My issue is that I specifically sought their expertise before spending money. Had Tarang told me upfront that this vintage Rolex was beyond their experience, I would have gone directly to a specialist. I contacted Hal to resolve the matter privately. After one brief response, I explained the situation and followed up, but received no further reply. For a business dealing in high-value watches, the repeated breakdowns in internal communication, unmet commitments, and lack of follow-through from the owner showed a level of professionalism far below what I expected. This experience left me with no confidence in Hal Martin's, and I would not trust them with any of my watches in the future.

I had to take a nail file to it in order to buff it off as it was too uncomfortable to wear. Between my grandfather and I, we had six watches needing repair. Did my research and wanted to support small business. Found this shop. Called to ensure he would be open if the current pandemic situation. Answers the phone with simply "hello". Is this the Watchmaker Specialist?", I ask. "Yes." I then asked if he would be open the next day to drop by with the watches for repair. "No problem. I will be here" he responds. "Excellent. See you tomorrow." Today (the next day), I picked up my 89-year old grandfather to drive 25 miles to his shop. Arrive to the office building, then had to had to show my driver's license to a security guard. It has to be shown to a video camera where they take a picture of your license. Was not crazy about that given identity fraud. But had to do it to gain access to the building. Made our way up to the 7th floor, found the suite, only to find the office locked. Sign on door says call the number. So I do this and again, simply "hello". I let him know we were standing at the front door. "Who's this?", he asks. "A customer" i replied. "Oh, I am not there. I went to get some dinner. Can you wait 30 or 45 minutes?"........ So he wanted my grandfather and I to simply hang out and wait for him. Not very good customer service especially after I called beforehand to verify it was good to come down at that time. Which it was. But he left us in the lurch. We went someplace else. Was not a goid customer service experience.
