I recently used Kroll Ontrack for my business hard drive that broke and was very pleased with their service.

A while back, I contacted Chipheads for a comparison quote on the replacement of a laptop keyboard and frame after a water spill fried a touchpad. The first place I had visited for a quote was a lovely one-man shop that quoted me $300 minimum for the repair - and that was with full awareness that I'd already purchased my own replacement parts and therefore all cost on his part was purely labor. He also communicated clearly that accessing the keyboard area required moving multiple parts he was not entirely familiar with and laughed that he would have to give me the $2000+ laptop he'd tried to sell me if the repair didn't go well. I left the establishment unconvinced of his capability to fix my also $2000+ design powerhouse that had not left my side since I got her. Enter Chipheads. I contacted via the general email address on the website, outlining the general situation and requesting a quote. Chipheads teammate Scott responded, and the quote he gave was comparable. I then emailed to confirm that I'd ordered the right parts before making the decision to put my laptop basically in the hospital right before I was going to be gone for a full two weeks, so I wouldn't be able to get her back even if the parts were wrong and repairs could not be done. Scott never responded to that email, and I had to leave for my out-of-town event. When I'm home, I rely on my laptop heavily, so dropping off when I'm not occupied with an event is not ideal. When another long event came up on my schedule, I contacted Chipheads again, this time creating a new email thread directing back to the general email address - the previous thread had directed to Scott's email address after we connected. I admit that I was hoping that I would connect with Jarret this time, and I did. He responded not only quickly but also giving me the option of a two-week repair period for less than $200. I'd be occupied with my event for exactly that amount of time anyway, so this was perfect. When I arrived the day before my event started, Jarret was with another guest. Both the impression that the first shop had given me about the delicate nature of my repair and my own experience in tinkering with laptops and electronics in general added to why I specifically waited to speak directly with Jarret given the impression of reliability he gave me in our correspondence. I dropped my laptop off with Jarret the day before my event started. Less than 48 hours later, he called to let me know that my laptop was ready for pickup. That was back in August. I specifically waited to ensure that the laptop was in perfect working order before leaving a review. It's now October. Safe to say, my laptop is in good health. Dropping one star for Scott dropping the ball on communication. Regardless, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Chipheads for your repair and upgrade needs.

Well, not only did I not want to pay $200 for a refurb replacement, I didn't want a different phone with lame iOS 6. I was pretty sure those world of wireless places would fix it, but to be honest, I was leery of leaving my phone, with my nudie pics and bank account info at the cell phone pawn shop. I briefly considered ordering a kit and fixing it myself, but decided I wasn't prepared to go w/o my phone if I frigged it up. So I did what I always do: turn to yelp. I saw iDoctor had 5 stars, and also read a review that said they got their phone fixed at the wireless place and had to have it re-fixed here anyway (made me feel better about my pre-judgement!). Anyhow, I made an appt because I went on a Saturday, but they do take walk-ins, time permitting. I dropped it off and it was ready before I was done devouring my Pasta Zola! Repair was $140 and he offers a sort of insurance/discount type of thing: for $20 he will fix it again for 1 yr, for $30 he will fix it twice in the next yr. I took him up on the $20 option and feel pretty good about it; gravity seems to be stronger around my phone for some reason!

NEVER AGAIN. HACK JOB replacing camera lens on a week old IPhone 6S…read more First off it was only the camera lens that was cracked. The guy said it would take an hr. so we grabbed lunch at noon and came back. Needless to say he hadn't even been able to get the lens off yet & told us to stop by, by closing (9p). It's now 5:37p, they tried to give us the phone back & when we went to look at the replacement lens by turning the phone over- IT FELL OUT! Then we noticed HUGE GOUGES in the phone around the lens that the repair guy made just trying to take the lens out! We called Gary-the owner, needless to say he could have cared less! He said he was in the middle of dinner & we were ruining his night! We asked for a discount on services being that they gouged the back of my husbands phone & didn't return it in the same condition we brought it in. Gary said no, it's not their fault, we are expected to pay full price. He again stated we ruined his night, and continued to argue about how we should know how hard this is and to expect gouges!!! We said there was no disclaimer stating this nor did your staff state this!!! If you cannot do the job & return the item in the same condition it was brought in, then do not take the job!!

I originally contacted the Eden Prairie ComputerFixx for help with honoring the 90-service agreement that the West St. Paul ComputerFixx has decided not to honor because I asked them to momentarily control my mouse during a remote service session (please see the review I left for the West St. Paul ComputerFixx that details the bizarre interaction). The Eden Prairie owner said that they cannot honor the commitments of the other store and that they were skeptical of me out of the gate. I replied that if I cannot get the 90-day service guarantee honored, then I have no recourse but to notify the appropriate agencies and share my experience with the public forum. To this, he wrote "I do have a lawyer and I don't mind pursing a defamation suit" and "I withdraw any services I offered and you are never welcome in my Eden Prairie location" and "Any further communication is unwelcome from you, that's my only warning." In short, the experience with both ComputerFixx branches was dysfunctional and abusive.
