Salmon poke bowl
Deena B.

I just went for lunch, and I'm in love! The staff was lovely and accommodating for me and my baby. The whole menu looked delicious - lots of solid lunch options like mussels, poke tacos, etc for like €8-10 - but I went for the salmon poke bowl. It had quinoa, purple cabbage, salted pineapple and sriracha mayo also - so much yum. It was so colorful and tasty, and to top it off they put a watermelon slice in my tap water. Nice touch. I'm looking forward to going back for dinner.

I've only ever had a Poke bowl once before in Ahi Poke London, so I was curious to try out the new spot in Dublin. I came around 2 so it wasn't very crowded past lunch hour, but the place is long and narrow, quite similar to the Klaw in Temple Bar. The menu has a decent amount of choice plus an option to build your own Poke bowl. Most of the dishes are of the cold seafood variety, like salmon, crab, tuna, lobster etc. but they also have toppings like kimchi and tofu as a veggie option. I had a build with quinoa base and crab, which was quite tasty albeit a bit bland for my taste, but it was certainly very healthy. The downside is that the portions are small in relation to the high prices (€12 for a tiny bowl, and more if you order something like lobster). The staff are very friendly and helpful though, and my mum ordered the chowder which she said was great. It came in a cool tin along with some bread and was €7. Overall, healthy and trendy Poke bowls but at a price.

We definitely weren't the only ones coming in to try this place. The space is smaller and was packed so we had to wait about 20 minutes to get in. Online you can book a reservation if you call. I will say you have to climb a flight of stairs to get into the restaurant and we had to wait in line on the stairs so keep that in mind. Inside is such a lively vibe. There is a bar but no bar seating and appeared to be all sit down tables. To the food now... wow what a treat! Between my husband and I, we got the Garlic Bread appetizer and the Guinness Beef Stew and Coddle for our main meals. The garlic bread was nice and crispy and the garlic dip it came with was excellent. The rocket (arugula) on top helped to lighten it up. Now the main meals were definitely something else. The beef in the stew was tender and there was a lot of time put into the base I can tell as it had such a deep flavor. The Coddle, which originated in Dublin we learned, is something you need to try if you visit. Basically sausages and mashed potatoes put into a flavorful potato soup like what's not to love. The server's were wonderful and the food came out quickly. Great portions for the price. Highly recommend this place. Thank you to all of the staff for a wonderful experience!!

The oysters were displayed on a bed of seaweed. And they brought to your table and explain to you all the ingredients then torch in front of you. I love all the combinations to max the flavor. I wanted to try the Dublin shrimp but unfortunately they ran out, I was told usually ran out at lunch. So I ordered crab on toast, really big size crab meat with cucumber on a yellow crab paste. It comes with four different kinds of oysters, two each, eight total. The waitress explained the taste profiles of each type: one was salty, one was mineral-y, another creamy. I thought the creamy oysters took the cake. Pro tip: come during Happy Hour and get a euro off each oyster!

I had clear favourites and ended up ordering extra rock oysters after. I tried 4 types of oysters, and I chose the rock oyster for the rest of the meal. The oyster selection is priced at €7.00 for 2 oysters, which makes it dangerously easy to keep adding "just two more rock oysters" . The oyster tempura was also a win, and it's €16.50 for 4 oysters. We shared the 10oz rib eye (€49.50) and it was good, but steak-wise other places win, so I'd personally focus on the seafood here. The atmosphere felt lively and polished without being stiff. It was busy, but the staff were friendly and welcoming. We spent roughly €150 for the oysters and the rib eye, and I'd happily go back for an oyster-led meal.

Potato to seafood ratio . Fish pie wasn't mine but was devoured so ummm yeah it was a hit. I'm personally not a fan of stuff on top of stuff and there was just too much going on for my liking but I digress. Seafood of the day was halibut and I took the bait. I debated between that and monk fish and the waiter persuaded me. Let's just say, I regretted my choice but hey it was recommended. There was just something off on the breading and the fish just wasn't flavorful and flaky as I expected . Overall it was a great experience and I'm glad I was able to snag a reservation. Yes I'd come back but I'm definitely skipping the fish of the day. On a side note, initially it wasn't busy and the servers hovered - don't do that, customers don't like it.

Here's what we ordered: - Matt's Seafood Linguine (Eric) - Turbot (Gayle) - Halibut (Fern) - Porchetta (Don) We ordered a bottle of white wine for the table (Gavi Di Gavi), which Fern had heard good things about. We were not disappointed as it went well with everything (including the pork) and was enough wine for how we often drink at dinner. Honestly, everything about this shop just seemed cool, inviting, and that you were a part of something bigger than tradition. You can get fish and chips from a lot of places in Ireland, but this place and their employees really seem like they care about making the best product. You do have to make reservations as this place is popular and very small. I believe they have six counter spots and maybe eight back counter spots. If you are a bit bigger or have trouble sitting on stools, this place may be a challenge for you, but I highly recommend giving it a go. Along with four plates of fish and chips for our family, (we chose Plaice as it's a fish that we are not able to get where we live) we also got some appetizers, the dressed crab on toast and the smoked haddock croquettes, both of which were absolutely fantastic. I'm not an expert on fish and chips but I can say that what we had here was incredibly flavorful, very light, and not greasy. Usually after eating fish and chips I need a 4-hour nap but after eating these fish and chips, though very filling, I was still able to go about my sightseeing duties for hours on end. As I said before, the staff here seem very keen on doing a good job but are also very personable and knowledgeable. Sitting at the main bar top, we were able to talk to the two that were working and honestly had a lot of laughs and great conversation which really made our experience quite pleasurable. I don't know if it's the best fish and chips in Dublin or the most traditional fish and chips in Dublin, but it's the best fish and chips that I've ever had.
