I miss the time where the signal reached Vallejo so now I listen to KUIC 95.

Normally l would hear the distant signal of KWAV's music coming through, but the signal was stronger, and this music had a message. It's new Christian radio station KEPT-LP broadcasting from Hayward, with their transmitter in the hills above the Niles district of Fremont. At only 100 watts, it's signal covers the southeast portion of the Bay Area, but it can be picked up much further out on a car radio. Most of their programming so far is various styles of Christian music, seeming to appeal for a broad audience. Live broadcasts are Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings featuring Calvary Chapel Hayward's church services. The classic radio drama Unshackled is scheduled Sunday through Friday at 10 PM, with Bible studies at 12:30 AM and PM Monday through Friday. What would make KEPT a better station is for them to have live DJ's. That way listeners would feel connected to the station, instead of just hearing automated music and time checks. They've only been on the air a little more than a month, and I'm sure new programs and features will soon surface, but it's great to have another radio choice to choose from.

I'm so excited that there is another option since there aren't many these days. God is soooo awesome and amazed. Keep on spinning the praise to God and inviting people to God the father through Christ Jesus. I'll be listening in hopes of teaching as well. May the Father bless, keep, and prosper this ministry in the sharing of His love grace and Salvation!! You all are in my prayers Bro Bobby

I only visit Santa Cruz twice a year, max, but I've actually listened to KZSC 88.1 more on my…read moredrives down the 101 near the towns of Gonzales and Soledad than I have when driving around Monterey Bay. Normally at that point of the drive, it's early afternoon on Saturday or Sunday, so I often hear the same DJs or at least the same shows that have been hosted by different DJs--college students, I assume. The music can be good, bad, or totally random, especially how the songs are juxtaposed. That's the beauty of true college radio, and I don't begrudge them their poor taste or lack of knowledge of seminal bands from the '80s and '90s--and yes, I know that they were born in the 2000s, but I was born in the late '70s and I still knew from a young age who Elvis, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and many of the Motown artists were. What does bother me about this station--and something ugly about true college radio--is how much dead air there is. It's not just too much time between songs or occasionally hearing hot-mic incidents; it's a more regular thing, and I've heard the same DJs apologize for the same issue over and over. Again, I get it that these are (mostly) college kids who are learning a skill, but they should be better, which leads me to believe there's very little to no engineering help for the DJs. There's also too much advertising, but I can't single KZSC out for that, and some of the hyper-local ads are funny. I'm glad it's my audio companion for at least part of my regular trips to SoCal, but it could be better. And they need more shows devoted to music.

KZSC is always there for me. A student run radio program…read morethat covers all grounds. From "for fun" segments like tarot card and star sign readings to organized playlists by the students that branch into new genres and subcategories of music per student hosting, the fun never stops. Now, I'm into the backpacker underground stuff as much as the next man (I used to play hip hop on 90.5 KSJS), but there is definitely a place in my rotation for some hit pop. The DJ's aren't the greatest, since they are all student trainees at a JC (not on the level as us KSJS'ers), but that's not what you listen for. Also, one of the few shows that breaks away from the Top 40 format is "Lowridin' with JJ," and it is one of the finest programs on any station! It basically talks about local issues within the Latino community, and he spins some great Motown oldies to go along with it. I'm not Latino myself, and don't ask me how Motown is at all related to their subject matter, but JJ is one cool dude, nonetheless! Someone needs to sign this man right now! He deserves to be on the professional airwaves.
