The food is cooked fresh. You actually pick your seafood before it is cooked, especially the squid and the crab. Nothing feels rushed, and it shows once the plates hit the table. The fried squid was worth waiting for. Crispy on the outside, tender inside, and not greasy. You can tell it was fresh and cooked to order. The crab was the same story: sweet meat, well-seasoned, and not drowned in sauce. We also ordered pancit bihon, scallops with garlic, pork BBQ skewers, and a small cup of rice. The pancit bihon was flavorful and not dry. The scallops were soft and garlicky without being overpowering. The pork BBQ skewers had that classic smoky sweetness and were nicely charred. Service is straightforward and the vibe is casual. This is not fast food. If you come hungry and in a rush, you will get frustrated. If you come expecting fresh, cooked-on-the-spot Filipino food, you will leave happy. This is the kind of place you go to slow down, eat well, and enjoy food that is made properly. Enjoy time with family and talk; it's nice to enjoy your time while waiting for the food.

We were seated promptly for a party of 8 and were given menus along with roasted peanuts. We ordered peking duck, roasted chicken, sotanghon, pancit canton, black pepper beef, and birds nest soup with quail eggs. The soup came piping hot and warmed us up from the day's rain. The peking duck came a little sweet. The roasted chicken was drenched in sauce. The sotanghon was of good texture as with the pancit canton. The black pepper beef, which the waitress indicated that it was their specialty, was very chewy. It didn't pack the flavor I was hoping for, it was bland. We also orderd mango sago, mango shake and ube lomochi (sp?) (or was it the other "..mochi" named dessert) for dessert. The mango sago was a bit sour but the ube lomochi was wonderfully sweet, but not overwhelming. It had the consistency of mochi and had a sesame seed filling. Despite my disappointment of the food (which was highly recommened by someone in my party) the service was impeccable. Everyone was very accommodating and was eager to please. The waitresses that serviced our table were all very pleasant, and kept checking on us to make sure any requests we had was executed and satisfied. Overall, the price I paid for a party of 8 was of decent value. I did expect the food to be of more higher quality as people have raved about this restaurant. The service is superb. The service alone is why I would ever come back. The food.. well meh.. maybe I'll try again another time to see if the food improves.

During the cruise, there is entertainment such live music and dance performances. When I went, the buffet offered a variety of Filipino dishes, including pancit, vegetable Kare Kare and Filipino bbq. There were also several Filipino desserts and complimentary juice, while other drinks such as soda could purchased for an additional fee. While I appreciated the variety of food, I found the flavors to be fairly mild. More than the food, it was the atmosphere and experience that made this cruise memorable. I really enjoyed the scenic river ride and seeing all the lush greenery and tropical vegetation. I also liked the live entertainment. The local music and traditional dance performances were impressive and fun to watch. Some of us tourists even joined in the fun Filipino Tinikling dance. Overall, the Loboc Riverwatch Floating Restaurant was definitely an hour well spent. The relaxing river ride, the scenic views and live music and dance performances combined created a memorable and enjoyable experience.

We had to send the one scallop (?), much of the heap of Chinese cabbage, and the little corn cob back as they were decidely not fresh, but the rest was quite good. On top of the set plate (500p for the small), we ordered more seafood balls, and some white noodles that I think go better with the meal than the thin glass noodles included with the meal. Too bad the broth pot is not split into spiced and plain water (as some hot pot restos do), but you can add some flavours from the condiment table to accompany the extra vegetables they start with in the broth. The condiments - minced garlic, chopped onions and shallots, scallions, soy sauce, deep-flavoured bean sauce and chili paste - that you mix up at a separate table according to your taste were fresh, and really close in flavour to what one gets in Taiwan and Manila (where one can find many hot-pot restaurants, with one of the best being Ping Yang at the corner of Adriatico and Julio Nakpil Streets in Malate). We are glad to find yet another good resto here in Iloilo, because there really are few worth returning to. I recommend this restaurant highly, but make sure the staff bring you all fresh ingredients for your own style of cooking at the table. Far exceeds most Korean 'self-cook' fare that usually starts/stops with fatty pork belly, and therefore is far less fattening. Check it out?
