Goodwill was founded in 1902 by Boston Minister, Reverend Edgar J. Helms. He took donations from…read morewealthy Bostonians and hired people who were poor and who could fix the items. The items were then given to the people who worked on them or were resold. Goodwill's philosophy is "a hand up, not a hand out". Today Goodwill has become a $5 billion nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment, and community programs for people who have disabilities that might prevent them from getting a job on their own. This Goodwill store is located in LaBelle. There are different extra discount days posted on the outside window. Inside the store are two rooms of used and new clothes, household goods, accessories, toys, art, and misc. I always like checking out the bric-a-brac. There were a number of new items here including inexpensive 2 for $1 party supplies, sheets, candles, and clothing and accessories. This store has a tiny furniture section but they sell new mattresses. There is a community outreach center right in the store. It is nice to know that this store is providing jobs and that the money raised here is helping the community.

I had only ever brought one other thing in years ago and I don't recall being treated so badly. The two items didn't fit into their plastic bins (in the little serve yourself area), so I asked Becca at the counter how she wanted me to handle it. She was nasty and truly rude to me. She snapped at me like an grouchy old dog. I took my stuff and went to another bigger, nicer consignment store less than 10 minutes away on McKenzie St. The people there were much kinder (and friendlier, and patient). Pretty sure this place only stays in business because the location is central to PGI and convenient. Also, some folks are willing to put up with Becca's distainful treatment just to get rid of things. It'll catch up eventually though. Look at the recent reviews... someone is not happy in her business anymore and it shows.

Some of the brand names I saw included Louis Vuitton, Coach, Kate Spade, Prada, Chanel, and a large selection of Lily Pulitzer. The owner Bonnie was very friendly and she explained to me how the pricing works. Clothing is priced based on how long it is in the shop. A Patricia Nash purse I liked was priced at $129 but if it is still here in December it will sell for $90. If you can't make it to the store in person the Designer Consignor Consignment has an Instagram account you can follow that features some of their best items including that turquoise leather purse. Another adorable bag that caught my eye was beaded to look like a watermelon making it the perfect summer picnic outfit accessory. There is a dressing room area in the back of the store so you can try on clothes. They also sell shoes and other accessories. You can bring in your gentle used and mint designer items to sell for a split of the profits.
