My family including grandparents have been going to Kittery Eye for as long as I can remember. Dr. Shapleigh is unbelievable with children. I can't get over how he can turn a pouting stubborn 4 year old boy into a relaxed well mannered gentleman. Dr. Webb happens to be my doctor and I would travel mile to see him. Oh, yeh I do travel miles about 40 to come to Kittery Eye and never regret it. This staff is top notch. Everyone is kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and pleasant. I have been going to Kittery Eye for approximately 14 yrs I think. I love the new location...much bigger and modern and professional. I never have to wait to see the Dr and checking in and out is a breeze. Dr Seaton is a great Optometrist and I completely trust his exams and judgement. He explains what is going on with your eyes and what you may expect in the future, based on a thorough exam. I should know, as I used to work for an ophthalmologist in Boston for many years as a tech and surgical assistant, and now as an RN. Kittery Eye has been providing my eye care for many years. They are professional, thorough, and friendly. They do an outstanding job explaining what they are doing during the exam, explaining eye changes and symptoms, and giving helpful ideas on how to manage any issues. Sorry to see Dr. Shapleigh retire (though he very much deserves it!)--I always felt completely comfortable during his appointments over the past many years. I saw Dr. Zieja for the first time at my most recent appointment and am extremely satisfied--very similar to Dr. Shapleigh's approach. I have been a patient of Dr. Webb for several years. He is so patient and takes time explaining everything. I also buy my glasses there, and the wait time is never long, and the technicians are great. I highly recommend the ophthalmologist as well. My husband had an emergency on a Sunday (Mother's Day) and I took him to the Urgent Care (York Hospital in Wells), and they contacted Dr, Armbruster, who met us in their office later. He had early signs of Glaucoma, and was treated for it for over 12 years of his life so they prevented him from ever having that eye disease. read more

I have seen both Dr. Lowe and Dr. Seaton. Both were professional and punctual. They also explained the anatomy and physiology of the eye as it applied to my situation in a way that a lay person could understand. I would highly recommend this group for eye care. I thought the glass frames selection was excellent with a variety of price ranges. I did not have the utmost confidence in the person helping to fit my lenses as she was pushing a new lens finish that was pricey and did not apply to my needs. But I feel that this would happen at most retail stores. read more

However, I have also received excellent care from every other doctor for an ongoing eye condition, and they have even opened the office on an occasional weekend for me! For the first time in decades of wearing contact lenses, I was asked to try a trial set on which were then tested in the store and the prescription tweaked. It may seem a small thing, but it is really important, which is why they get five stars. Also a few months ago, before I was even a patient, I was worried a lens had got caught behind an eyelid. Had my eye exam recently at this most wonderful office! I saw Dr Karen Healy and had what I consider the best thorough eye exam I've ever had. Dr Healy told me things about my eyes, and eyes in general, that I had never heard before in my 70 years of exams!! Also made suggestions of ways I could improve my dry eye condition. I'm only in Maine for the summer and needed an eye doctor. A local doctor recommended Kittery Eye becuse they were coming to Wells, Maine. Met Dr Webb he was nice and made it so easy. The staff made you feel so welcome. I would recomend this office to everyone. By the way I'm 82 and this is the first time I didn't need new glasses.
