The gentleman working at the shop (who I think was the owner) was very helpful and friendly. I heard him helping out many people and answering questions while we were browsing. We had never flown a kite before and when we went, there wasn't much wind, so we weren't sure if we could get a kite up in the air or not. We asked if they offered rentals, and he said that he has loaner kites that we could fly if we wanted at no charge. I thought that was super nice. We were able to get our loaner kite in the air and it was cute to hear families tell their kids to "look at the mermaid in the air!" I was able to make some good memories and spend an idyllic afternoon flying the kite, and I really wanted to support the business so we bought our own kite. It had a duck design and it's super adorable and easy to fly. read more

Story time: my friend decided to borrow a kite to fly since he loves kites, and he did actually do pretty well. The wind was strong and as he let the kite fly up and up he didn't watch the end of the string and POP, the ring left his hand and made its way to the marina. It caught on the very last boat possible and now here we are with no rental kite, but after 40 minutes working with Marina staff trying to figure out how we can get it down, we go back to the kite store and the wonderful woman running it tells us that normally that kite costs $40 but since he lost it she'll just charge $20! I fully expected to get scalped but she was actually very nice. There's a lot of super cool kites in the store, not the least of which is the 4 string one, but I forgot the name. I suck at kite flying but anyone who has an interest or passion should check out this store! read more

I happened upon this store when I was doing my Christmas shopping. They have amazing kites!! I was racking my brain to see who I could get one of these cool kites for. Cuz I was "Christmas Shopping" and therefore couldn't get one for me. I love how creative they are. The man at the counter was super helpful. And one thing I loved, he played with the toys when kids came in. He showed the kids, and explained to them, how they work and how to beat use them. That's small business at its best!! You don't get that service in the big box stores. You get that kinda great customer service at smaller businesses, like Kite Flite, that take the time to know you and what you're looking for. Ordered something online. They processed the payment but never sent out the product weeks later. Both phone numbers just ring and ring. They eventually responded by e-mail and said sorry in response, but haven't mailed out the product or given us our money back a week after that. Very dubious. read more

walking around seaport village and decided to stop in this cute little shop. we were greeted by the friendly owner who explained to us his top sellers and what kids like. my husband ended up buying 2 foam planes that can do loops or glide depending on how you orient the structure. we've already flown it at our local park and it is a hit! definitely recommend buying. after we left, we noticed you can buy the same model on amazon for cheaper but i definitely recommend supporting small business. the guy that owns this shop was so friendly, we will definitely be back when we're in town :) read more

I have to say, I felt the peppy and positive energy the minute I walked through the door! The salesperson was enthusiastic and energetic and spoke about his products with so much passion. Then, if you have an ounce of inner child left in you, you'll find your feet carrying you inside to at the very least, take a look. You'll have sticker shock at first. These aren't your cheap $5 children's kits from party city or the grocery store. These are QUALITY kites made for everybody from the beginner to the stunt kite flyer. This is EXACTLY how it happened for both me and my friend Ashley as we were at the shops to get some Ben & Jerry's. A children's character kite with run you $35 and an entry level "grown up" kite with a single string will cost you $45. You're not just purchasing a quality kite, you're supporting a small business. The shop owner, Jim, wants to make you look good since you flying a kite in front of his shop is basically free advertising! We bought a Prism Brand Zenith 5 model kite for $45. It is a no frills, sleek-looking, "grown up" kite that practically flys itself! Jim set us up for success and taught us how to assemble the kite, which was easy, and gave us basic tips and advice to get the kite into the air! It worked like a charm with the winds in front of the shop and we were INSTANTLY flying with neither of us having had any kite flying experience! We saw a man that had several kites as well as a small child also flying a character kite from Jim's shop. The man saw us, came over, and basically gave us expert flying lessons and it was an amazing experience! The man admitted to "having a relationship" with the kite shop, as we noticed that all of his kites were the same ones sold in the shop! We didn't mind at all and we're grateful for the experience! Is it costly and is there a markup? Absolutely. Could you buy the same kites for $10 cheaper at REI? Yep. Would REI or Amazon have given you lessons in how to assemble the kite and expert flying lessons? Nope! You have to come here to get that! That experience, plus the PERFECT beginner spot are 100% work the convenience, location, and EXPERIENCE of flying your own kite! Kite Flite is a whimsical colorful shop tucked away in Seaport Village. The varied collection of flying objects is enough to match any of your kite or flying toy needs. I got a DIY assembly two-part helicopter top, both pieces in pink. The owner, Kevin, took our group outside to the front of the shop and showed us how to fly our toys. With a flick of the wrist, we sent the heli-tops shooting up skyward, against the backdrop of the still bay waters, dusk's faint light twinkling off of the water. Kevin told us his story, how he had come to own the shop, following the advice of his grandpa who told him to do what he loves. The very toy he was showcasing was what piqued his interest in things that fly, and after getting a degree in business, he followed his passion and made the shop his own. Had a horrible experience. I'm a fairly experienced kite flyer. I've flown and am pretty good at the four string kites. Multiple 2 string kites as well. I bought a micro sport kite that stacks and they said it needs very little wind. I paid $200 for this piece of crap. It didn't come with the string so I couldn't fly it right away. I live 300 miles away and I can't return it. I finally purchased some string for it and the stackable kite wouldn't lift off at the beach. Plenty of wind. I'm very disappointed and am out $200 bucks. So if you want to waste $200 of your hard earned money on a piece of plastic that won't fly, go right on ahead and buy from this store. Listen, I'm just pissed. The store is a nice store. But the product that they sell is very cheap. Its my own fault for trusting the guy in the store. . read more

Last week to the date, I went back in time 24 years and was 8 years old again! Here's the scoop as to how I traveled back in time. I've been meaning to go in this store for 7.5 years since I moved to San Diego to randomly purchase a kite to fly, but for some reason, just never managed to do it. Well, lo and behold, as fate (or sheer randomness) would have it, the sun was shining bright, the wind was right, and it stepped inside in search for a kite! The sweetest man ever --DAVE-- let me borrow a kite for a test ride, and I instantly went back in time! I could not stop smiling from ear to ear and completely immersed myself in the moment, as if I was in my own "8-years-old" world. I definitely knew I had to purchase a kite for my own within the first couple minutes. And did I purchase a kite? YOU BET I DID! I returned the beautiful, colorful, butterfly kite that Dave let me borrow and purchased the same exact one because it gave me so much joy. I even named it Aerial because of the flight my butterfly kite takes in the sky. Not only do I love and appreciate my new toy, I truly appreciate the man who was sooo kind to me that day. I haven't been here in over a year, but today my friend and I were inspired to go kite shopping since it was such a nice day, and we happened to be in Seaport Village. The shop keeper was friendly and very helpful, and my friend ended up buying an adorable kite- very colorful, made in the image of a happy looking poision dart frog. We took the kite out to a grassy open area nearby and the wind sung under the kite and lifted it up into the air effortlessly. I always used to have this image of people struggling to get kites up into the air with a running start, but this was quite literally the easiest kite in the world to fly. Seaport village is a great place to fly kites! We wanted to upgrade my daughters kite since the $6 one from toyrus just wasn't cutting it. I did my research on Amazon and the kites at this store are priced very similar. We went with the most popular kite they had and it was priced at $29.99. They have a ton of designs to choose from. John I believe who was the owner was very helpful. He even fixed our old kite we brought in that we did not purchase at the store free of charge! My kids had a blast flying their new kites. My girlfriend and I were on a date at seaport Village when we decided to buy a kite and fly it in the park. We stopped by this shop and right away the man running it, who I assume is the manager, was super friendly and kind to us. The kite was kind of pricey but I could tell it was quality! Such a fun place to visit while at Seaport Village! This little shop is full of all kinds of kites and lawn decorations. I've come to buy several different wind ornament type hanging things from this place. One was a Santa Clause face shaped in a ball that spun and spun with the wind. They have quite a display on the front lawn of the store and one of my favorite lawn ornaments has been the one that says it's 6:00 p.m. somewhere, showing a person drinking a cocktail. If anything stop by and check out the store just to look. Their stuff does tend to be a bit pricey specially since they're in a tourist location. read more
