I want to give a shout out to this amazing company, KITCHEN MAKEOVERS. After getting 4 quotes, and 4 different scopes of work (what they would and wouldn't do,) I decided on this company and for a number of reasons: Tanya came with a tonne of knowledge - from colour to paint to hardware, cost, and more. She was able to offer suggestions as to what would look good, and what would be economical for me. She was extremely thorough. As well, she showed genuine interest in making my kitchen beautiful. Another contractor (I'll call him Joe) told me to figure it all out myself, which I did not find helpful. He said he was not a decorator. Everything Tanya put together for me, verbally, or otherwise, was very detailed and easily understood. I had to ask Joe a few times to clarify what he meant, which made me uncomfortable. At that point, I felt suspicious because it was beginning to appear that he was only going to put doors on and anything after that was extra and would take me well beyond the original quote. (See below) There were no hidden fees or nickel-and-diming during this transaction. She was kind enough to throw in a few extras as well - something the other 3 companies would not do. In fact, Joe was not going to paint the frames of the cabinets, saying that once the new doors went on, you would not notice the old cruddy parts of the cabinets. Not so as they were very old and discoloured. As well, Joe did not plan to do anything with the panel at the end of the row of cabinets. He told me it would cost me $150 to return to do those measurements, and $350 to put a new standard cabinet-sized panel on the end. The staff at Kitchen Makeovers is stellar. They are a young group of people, all with an extraordinary work ethic. They are: Tanya, Nadia1, Scarlet, Hayley, Jonah, and Nadia2. I couldn't have asked for better. Even with the amount of staff attending, there was never any breakdown in communication. They all had a specific job to do and they did it. The staff were always on time, in spite of having to drive from the Valley. They were all very pleasant, helpful, and did meticulous work. Their clean-up was impeccable. In closing, I will say that out of all the contractors I've had in my place in the last 2 years, (and there were many,) this company, by far, out-performed all of them, in terms of honesty, efficiency, price, customer care, and integrity. When first we were introduced to this company, we were really impressed with the straightforward pricing, immediate quotes, quick response time and initial outline of the work to be done and 'what to expect'. They were an immediate choice after we had proposed the project to 3 other companies. When issues came up during the project, though - affecting other people in our condo, not just us! - we found the situation was very poorly handled. First and foremost, responsibility wasn't taken for the ventilation issues that leeched into other suites but blamed solely on our building's design, even though the windows weren't open more than an inch and no fans were on to push the air out of the suite. No care was shown for the inconvenience or disruption to the living environment for our neighbours who were severely affected by the leeching, only that they should open their windows and blow fans in. This when it was near zero degrees and our neighbours are seniors. On the same subject, when they say the smell will linger for a day or two, make it a week or two if you live in a condo/townhome. If you are sensitive to smells, plan to be out of your house for a week at least, and make sure to leave EVERY SINGLE WINDOW OPEN with fans going non-stop. Additionally, after the work was done, we found it actually wasn't done. Every single cabinet door edge that was not immediately visible had been missed (not painted), and a number of doors/drawer faces weren't put on properly, some not even closing at all. When I brought this to the attention of the owner, the response was "Obviously it was overlooked." and "Well, just unscrew the door and fix it." No apology. No indication of empathy towards the situation. She did, however, propose hand rolling the painted edges in suite but I said no because the fumes had lingered 2 weeks already, giving me headaches, and I didn't want anymore in-suite painting done. I requested, instead, they be taken back to the shop and re-done, and that we receive a discount or refund of some sort to compensation for the inconvenience and for an unfinished job. This option was firmly shut down and no offer for recompense was made, only pushing to come back and finish up the painting in suite. In the end, I felt the whole thing from the moment they started painting to the end (and it's still not done) was very poorly handled, unprofessional, and incredibly disappointing. If you don't care how the job is done or the attitude of the people who do it, go with them. Price was good and the outcome was nice (if you don't look at the details). Otherwise, if you want a professional job with people who care as much about the outcome and your overall satisfaction as they do with getting your business, I'd say go somewhere else. read more
