Richard promised to do the job for one price and said it was "solid" yet he changed the price at the end, adding material that should be a "cost of doing business". He promised to fully install a bathroom countertop and two sinks and gave me a price. It was a good price, so I agreed. He ended up purchasing mini-sinks that were smaller than existing sinks. This saved him money. He charged me for piping and extensions to install the sinks. He never told me that the "set price" could go up.
In addition, he damaged the walls in three places. Now I have to pay someone to fix this damage. When I pointed the damage out, he made a bunch of excuses. If the excuses were valid, why didn't he tell me these possibilities before he started the work.
Richard is not a good communicator. We agreed on an installation date for September. On the evening before, he texted and said he "was stuck in traffic on the 405" and could not make it. It was hard to see why being stuck in traffic the evening before, impacts the installation date the next day. When I asked, he said he'd be an hour or two late. Then he texted in the morning and said he was having trouble loading his truck and would be later. At the time he was supposed to arrive, he texted and said he wasn't coming. (By the way, I had reaaranged client meetings to accommodate his schedule. I now had to re- reschedule these meetings).
I had given RIchard a deposit and bought two faucets (at his instruction) so I wanted to proceed despite these miscommunications. We reset an installation date. He showed up on time and work seemed to progress well. He had a helper who did excellent work and was respectful of my place-- being clean and courteous. (Richard seems oblivious to dirt, debris and mess he makes, and did not clean like David did).
I did not oversee the work so I wasn't sure how things were progressing. At the end of the day, it seemed like progress was made. Richard was scheduled to come back the next morning to complete the job. He arrived an hour late, without his "helper". He worked to finish the job (install faucets and clean the workspace).
When he was finished, I asked him about the damage to the walls and he said "that happens" and that I should hire someone to fix it. He left a mess in the sinks and on the floor. There was debris (wood chips, installation piping from sinks, etc.)
Things did not go as planned. I hoped to write an excellent review. I have to be honest about what happened. If you'd like to see pictures of the damage to the walls or the finished countertop, I'm happy to share these. read more
