It was a thoughtful touch for those who choose to sit outdoors while it's still warm, then linger into the cooler hours. My wife was very happy with her salad. Our Swedish friend liked her meatballs. I was disappointed with my smoked salmon. I expected an actual smoked salmon filet. I got a generous pile of the kind of smoked salmon one might find at a nice breakfast buffet: a mound of died, floppy fish slices that'd be great on a bagel but not as an entree. Our service was thoughtful and our food arrived promptly. Had I ordered a different dish, we'd easily be in 4-star territory. As things stand, there are too many restaurants in Stockholm for me to return to this one.

Would give higher review if they didn't charge for every little thing…read more The place was decent, the food was good and the sushi was better than I expected. The pieces were small for what I was paying, but I couldn't complain and fish prices change depending on the country. What really upset me was when I simply ordered water with my drink (which is free everywhere else in restaurants) they charged me 315 SEK for a 300ml bottle of Kirkland water! That was crazy, I could've just brought my own bottle from the Coop! The service was subpar-- brash, loud waiter who tried to be a stereotypical American and act like a big man. Overall just came off as invasive and annoying. The ambiance also tried to mimic an American bar, but fell short and was left with a cramped mess of a restaurant. Definitely a waste of money! Next door is a Taco Bar which I highly recommend! Great quesadillas!

Felt a bit like a college frat party. Almost skipped it, based on that underwhelming evening, but had to give it another shot late upon an icy and still midnight clear in January. Just amazing...Perfect soundtrack. Sat at the bar to watch the crew, which builds drinks with a bit of panache & showmanship. Started with their Whisky for the Holy Ghost and it was in fact a religious experience: Ghost bourbon, amaretto, Maurin Quina, bitters, salt and served in a chilled corked flask topped with smoke that lingered and really added to the ceremony & taste. My fellow penitents had tasty espresso drinks. It was the second round, however, that was truly memorable. I asked the mad genius behind the bar to concoct an extemporaneous "riff on a Sazerac." Maybe lost in translation, and ended up with more a riff on a vieux carre, but what a riff it was! Michters Rye, calvados in lieu of cognac, a healthy dose of some kind of floral bitters, a few other bitters and a sazeracky absinthe spritz. Guy said he had no idea how it would be, but it was freaking perfection! Skål, indeed.

3-4/5 for food, but 5/5 for drinks and service!…read more We noticed this place always had a long line coming out the door, and finally getting the chance to go up the elevator to see the city from above, it's no wonder! Gorgeous views, energetic vibes, clean and modern interior. We went to the izakaya side to get a late night snack and drinks, and I am still dreaming about the drink that I got! It was that delicious. For drinks I got the melon & vodka (I asked the server which he recommended between that and the mango & amaretto and he instantly said the melon & vodka!) and it did not disappoint! So so good! I've been wanting to figure out how to make it at home. It was sweet, had a delicious honeydew flavor, and tasted nothing like alcohol -- just my type of drink. My bf got the passionfruit & bourbon and thought it was yummy, had great balance, and the spice was a nice touch. While our drinks were 10/10, our food was just okay. We got the Wagyu nigiri (good meat but not necessarily anything to write home about), agedashi aubergine (pass, tasted weirdly like whiskey), tuna sashimi (my favorite of the four; I enjoyed the added crisp from the topping), and miso chicken thigh (not bad but pretty salty). Great vibes, fun location, fantastic attentive service, top notch drinks, but passable food. I kept wanting to go back just to get that melon & vodka!

Everything we had was fabulous. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful as well in terms of recommendations, and we received attentive service throughout the night. We came with a reservation, but had a brief stay at the bar because they were running a little behind which was totally fine by us (recommend a res). Definitely coming back whenever I am back in the city.

The pub itself had a good vibe where everyone was friendly and genuinely enjoying themselves. The decor of the pub was a lot of a lot of pub signs and usual things that you would find in a pub. It has a small but pretty cool layout when you could go down some winding stairs and find yourself in another seating area. Because of the pubs popularity and game time it was very packed in the bar area but the bar tender did a good job of attending to everyone. As for the food I enjoyed the fries we had and the vegan burger was alright. As you know my ratings go off of the expectations of how the place rates against similar places so as old school pubs go this was good, but do understand that typical old school pubs aren't well lit, don't have all balanced tables, and great seating in the entire place to enjoy the game. So if you're looking for those things you might want to check out some other places.

One thing that surprised me about Stockholm is that it did not really have a rich cocktail culture…read more Beer and wine are ever present, as are the multitude of local spirits, but the city lacks the kind of craft cocktail scene you'd expect from a major European capitol. Enter Penny & Bill! This cocktail bar features a rich, deep, and extremely well thought-out menu of very interesting cocktails. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, and will be happy to talk to you about their creations, which have been helpfully sorted into informative categories like "Herbal & Punchy" and "Short & Fresh." Even classic cocktails, like the gimlet, are jazzed up with interesting ingredients (for example, their extremely popular Aperol Spritz features Suze and orange cordial in addition to aperol and champagne). Stockholm is an expensive city, but my drinking companion and I ended up ordering three cocktails each. We ended up with a bill of about a hundred US dollars, and after confronting $14 beers and $17 glasses of wine all over the rest of the city, we honestly felt like we got something of a bargain. I'd recommend this bar to anyone coming to Stockholm, especially as many of the city's very elite restaurants are nearby. It's a great place to wait for your reservation, and you'll end up saving money off what you would have spent on ludicrously marked up wine at your restaurant. I'd note that this bar is a little more on the "upscale" side and I felt slightly out of place in my flannel shirt. You certainly don't have to wear a suit but I myself wish I'd at least had a smart shirt. Great bar and will absolutely be back if I return to Stockholm! Great music too!

We passed several days in Stockholm drinking incredibly expensive glasses of wine with our meals, so we were thrilled to visit Penny & Bill on our last night in Stockholm. I'd put Penny & Bill on my to-visit list after reading about it in Eater Stockholm, and I feel like Eater undersold this place! The decor is Instagram-perfect (jewel-tone hunter green with mauve accents and lots of brass trim), and the aesthetic is so on point, from the music to the coasters to the bathroom -- the atmosphere sets the tone for the elegant, inventive, and diverse menu of cocktails. Whether you're a cocktail novice (as it seems many Stockholmers are) or a seasoned mixologist, there's likely to be something that suits your tastes; the menu is grouped into categories of mood/flavor to help steer you in the right direction. One thing I thought was interesting -- and probably a function of the cocktail-trepidation of the Swedes around here -- is that every cocktail costs 168 kroner, presumably so you'll choose by taste rather than price point. Penny & Bill is very committed to introducing people to cocktail culture, and they have lots of accessible concoctions on the menu that allow you to taste the familiar with a twist (e.g. the not-your-average espresso martini or their gussied-up Aperol spritz). I ordered three cocktails, all expertly made by a lovely and extremely knowledgeable bartender, and since tax/tip are included, these three drinks ran about $50 USD, which I think is very reasonable since I'm used to NYC prices. Please, please add this to your Stockholm itinerary; it's an amazing hidden gem and I hope more people discover it!
