I want to start by saying how sad I am to leave this review. Teds is the closest music store to my…read morehome and one I came to for years as a student. I consistantly ordered a particular brand of reeds from them during my middle and high school years and had two buffet clarinets serviced there while martriculating and preparing for collegiate auditions. This is why I trusted Ted's and brought the parent of one of my students here. We purchased his first professional clarinet, a used Buffet from here. While his parent was happy to buy a new professional clarinet, the quality and richness of older Buffet clarinets matched the beautiful tone my student achieves. Ted's gave us a good price and I played the clarinet briefly to make sure it was functional. They even offered a 6 month warranty. During lessons, my clarinet student started to have issues with one of the keys. I noticed some very small pieces of cork were missing. We took the clarinet back to Ted's and instead of picking up the clarinet, I had to send it back for a more complete fix (the pad was now not closing correctly). I was told they did an overhaul of the clarinet and after some time, we tried the clarinet and picked it up again. Because an overhaul was done, I visually inspected and tested the clarinet again. All seemed well. A few weeks ago, my student had to send his instrument to the repair shop for an overhaul after pads in the right hand joint became loose and fell off. This time, at a different store, we were notified there was no way an actual overhaul was done because of the condition of the pads. I can no longer recommend, nor do business with Ted's, which is really a shame after all of these years.

While searching to buy my very own guitar, I found this store and actually changed my mind about wanting a guitar. This place has a wonderful selection of Mandolins of which I bought an Eastman A-Style Mandolin. It is absolutely beautiful and well worth the price! I visit every now and then, and this place isn't just for high end guitar collectors. They have MASSIVE amounts of other and more affordable yet still fantastic stringed instruments. Since the Mandolin, I bought a used Martin & Co. Backpacker Guitar for $199. It came with a great gig bag and the guitar is great. Apart from the products, the atmosphere is great. People may come in and play guitars, mandolins, ukuleles, basses, or banjos freely in the store. It's really cool and it helps that the staff is so very kind and helpful. If you want to get into string instruments or already love them, I'd absolutely recommend going to this store. They really have a fantastic location and are worth every penny I spend there.

That all being said, I make sure to rush to Bill's when I need stuff because the alternative is going home and then going to...well, another store with an instrument in the name, and that has never been a good experience unlike Bill's. A few years ago I made an online purchase for a used pedal from Bill's. I showed up to get it and as it turns out, they had no idea where it was. They had spend an hour looking for it after I purchased it, and then they spend another 20 minutes looking for it after I arrived. To make it up to me they offered me a brand new version of the pedal at the mid point of the difference between the used one and the new one. I took that offer because it was a great deal. Since then I have bought 3 more pedals from them over the years, a microphone, and a whole lot of accessories. If I want to purchase another guitar at any point, I will definitely hit them up if possible.

The clear implication was that I was attempting to steal this little item. This young man clearly needs more education in reading people. I was pretty insulted and I will never have a need to return to Bills Music in Catonsville Md. There are numerous other places to purchase their product line without the rude, passive-aggressive treatment.

Have you ever met someone and instantly knew they were about to become a huge part of your family?…read more Tom Bonvegna responded to an online inquiry I had about a Baby Grand piano that I wanted to surprise my husband with while he was deployed. My husband had played for years and since this was our first home purchase, I really wanted to make that happen. Tom, a Vietnam Vet and hero, reached out to me, heard my story and desire, and made it his goal to help us get a beautiful piano delivered. Our budget was ridiculously tight, and Tom made it happen. I researched everywhere, from estate sales, other online marketplace forums, about 15 different piano stores (some local, some not). After all of the research I had done (not knowing much about pianos beforehand), I learned that unless you REALLY know your stuff, you needed to go through a reputable company. If a piano wasn't tuned for the duration of its life, it could look pretty, but it wouldn't be very functional. I almost made a deal with another company that I would have regretted... and then Tom called and from that moment, I had an absolute peace about working with him. He was not a "salesman," but a true gentleman. Tom went the extra mile by a lot!!! There was one piano we thought would work, and it was even bigger than my original plan. After Tom looked at the pictures of my home (and staircase), we decided to wait for another piano to become available. There was a little bit of time that went by where I didn't think we were going to find it, and then... the call came. Tom found the most beautiful Yamaha, ebony, baby grand that plays incredibly! My husband was completely surprised and has loved at (1) having a baby grand piano delivered in his home without him there, (2) that I stayed within my designated "muahahaha" budget, and (3) that we found such an incredible person to work with. The piano delivery service was also excellent! Such care, such professionalism, and physical strength too. It's been four and one-half months and my home has been filled with music ever since. Thank you Jason's Music Center for being such a wonderful company to work with...and thank you to Tom for really making this happen.

Once we decided on a piano, Steve was able to make the magic happen so we could bring it home! This included trading in our baby grand. It has a beautiful, rich, mellow sound! We are looking forward to the decades that this piano will be used! Today alone, it's been used almost nonstop since it's arrival! Also, the piano movers were so professional and really took care of each piano during take down and set up. Thank you again Steve!

BEWARE! This is a…read morelong story, but I feel like it's important for prospective future customers. The short version: Nick is shady, he keeps you running around in circles putting off delivery, delivers the wrong piano, and then avoids paying you the money you are owed if you sell on consignment with him! The details: I purchased my beautiful satin black Baldwin model M from Nick back in I think 2015 or 2016, the purchase was smooth, and I appreciated the quick delivery and the tuning that came with it. If I were only reviewing on this, I'd have given a much higher rating. Fast forward to 2022: I approached Pianoman because I was in a situation where I could no longer keep my piano, we agreed that he would take my piano and place it on consignment, and I would receive $5,000 within 10 days of its sale. This sounded fine to me but then started the problems! This agreement was made on 5/27/2022, Nick knew I was on a time crunch since I was doing this because I was moving....8 emails (with few responses from Nick), and nearly 4 months later on July 9th, 2022 they FINALLY came to get my piano for consignment. I check in via email regularly (once every month or so) to see if the piano has sold yet, every time the response is the same, something along the lines of "not yet, we will let you know when it does" Getting my piano back: after about 6-7 months of no sale, I was in a position to take my piano back again, I message Nick again on 3/17/23 to confirm that it still hasn't sold and to arrange delivery, and he agreed to send it back. 2 1/2 months and 52 emails back and forth (where he kept promising delivery and then pushing me back week by week) later they finally call to tell me my piano will be delivered that same day (4/24/23). Great! The truck arrives, they uncover the piano... It isn't my piano!!! They send me a gloss black Baldwin Model R, mine was a satin black Baldwin Model M. I refuse delivery and instantly messaged Nick. He tells me they need to work out what happened since they are in the process of moving stores (no excuse for delivering the wrong piano) The excuse: A week or so passes and he finally tells me that the mix-up was because he had SOLD MY PIANO MONTHS AGO! And somehow "didn't realize it" (really? I doubt that). Now he tries pushing off paying me: He then tells me he will send me the $5,000 he owes me the next week or I could take that same value off the sale price of a new piano. I agree to the $5,000 (though the agreement was for the $5,000 to be sent to me within 10 days of sale, which clearly didn't happen since the piano was sold months prior without my knowledge... I should have demanded interest in addition to the $5,000 for holding my money for so long). He promises I will receive my payment by 5/2/23...Well, surprise surprise, the day he promises to send the money comes and goes and I still don't have the 5 grand. I email to see what was up and he tries to push it back another few days because "he is moving the store and his computer is down"... Not my problem, he knew when the money was expected (after all, it was the date HE promised) and this has now been a 9-month goose chase with him. Finally, on 5/5/23 he sends the money he owed me, but he waited until so late in the day to work out the transaction and banking that it nearly was pushed back again.

I was clear up front - I'm just curious about the price of a piano, deliver, maintenance to see if one would be in my future or not. The woman working seemed happy to talk about different types of pianos, opening up a few to show off a couple that had beautiful inside. She explained the purchasing options and was happy to let me play a few chords on each one to get a feel for the sound differences. I love music stores that let your browse a bit. The Piano Man carries well refurbished used pianos for the most part. They will deliver, move, tune and repair pianos. Most come with a warranty of at least 5 years, some more. Depending on your credit, you can pay in installments, which I suppose if you're a professional pianist having one now instead of saving up might make sense - I didn't ask about terms for this. You can also put a down payment to hold a piano, like any used instrument store, but this is you paying to hold the instrument. If you decide you don't want the piano, that deposit is forfeit. So don't put one down until you're positive you will buy the piano.
