I had a similar experience as many of those posting bad reviews…read more Mr. Electric created a crisis out of a minor issue and overcharged for the work they did. The scope of work was unclear and I was overcharged for the work they did and charged for work that was not done and for parts that were not installed. After calling their offices several times to make a complaint without resolution, I called the BBB to get things settled. Again, after having to call and send emails, I had threaten to lodge another complaint with the BBB to get them to send me the agreed upon refund. I had another electrical contractor come by to review their work and when I told him the situation, he told me who the contractor was without me saying anything. Apparently word has gotten around as to how they operate. Their are many reputable electrical contractors to choose from. Sadly, Mr. Electric is not one of them. Mr. Electric is a franchise and is part of the Neighborly group. I looked up their brands and will not do business with any of them.

Let me begin by clarifying this review and state that this rating is not a reflection of the…read moreelectrician that came to do the work at our house or of the quality of the work. The electrician was very professional and courteous. He did a wonderful job and did so in a timely manner. Our problem began when a crazy wind storm passed over Signal Mountain and a strong wind gust took down a very large tree in our front yard. When this happened the tree ripped out every power line from the side of our house as well as our fiber optics, a security camera, and another nearby tree. We were in a desperate situation and with so many other homes on signal in a similar situation. Mr. Electric was one of the only electricians that was able to respond to us quickly. We were somewhat shell shocked when we were quoted a price of $14,000 to replace all of the damaged lines which also included an entirely new breaker box which we were told was not up to code. But we were assured that our insurance would cover this. Clearly we are not electricians so we trusted the professionals to be truthful and honest and to keep our home safe and up to code. The job was done quickly and professionally. No complaints with that! HOWEVER!!!! We have just received several calls from our insurance company who has since gone over the work and claims filed by Mr. Electric and have found that they have overcharged and "upgraded" MULTIPLE ITEMS that WERE NOT NECESSARY JUST TO MAKE A PROFIT!! So basically we are now stuck with over at least $6000 in unnecessary charges and work that insurance will not cover and was never needed! This is where the 1 star review comes into play! Now I have gone back into older yelp reviews and have seen other multiple complaints of the exact same nature. We have no recourse. Please do your due diligence! BUYER BEWARE! Do not get screwed over like we did! Yes, their electricians are competent and friendly. But will stick you with "extras" that are not necessary and expensive! People need to trust the professionals they hire. Imagine going to a surgeon that says you need to trust me. You need this surgery to live. You would trust that the professional has your best interest at heart. But health insurance requires a pre authorization to keep you safe. This is not the case in home owners insurance. It happens AFTER THE FACT and by then it's too late and you're stuck with the bill. Do your homework! Look very carefully into the practices of Mr. Electric and see what others are saying. Hopefully this review will save someone else from getting cheated out of their hard earned money when stuck in an emergency situation like we were!
