When I need seafood and I'm in Northern Adelaide, I head right here. A huge range of seafood, poultry, fresh and frozen, can be found at this little gem. I even manage to get duck breast from here on occasion. The seafood is always fresh and caught daily, and the staff are lovely and helpful. You can also purchase various gourmet breads, coffee beans, and various deli type items. The shop is always clean and has that lovely smell of fresh fish. There is lots of parking out front.

With a huge range of fresh frozen seafood from international and national waters and a great selection of whole fish, fillets and marinara mixes we always come here to do our fish shopping. The staff are incredibly helpful and will take the time to find the best piece of fish for you (as well as recommend serving sizes if you are entertaining). Product sells out quickly on Saturdays so it is worth getting in early for the best cuts. However, if you go 1 hour before close all fillets are normally half price! I love that most of the fresh fish is sourced from SA (where they can) and the prices are so reasonable and often better than your supermarket stock. If you're doing some last minute entertaining then this is the place to go, with a range of dips, crackers, seasonings and even lemons in store to add to the perfect Saturday dinner!

Cappo's do a lot of trade to the restaurant and catering industry, and I can remember a time (god,…read moreshowing my age here, next I'll be saying "When I was a kid...") when it was a cash only trade selling a lot of offcuts of fish and broken prawns from the back door of the factory. These days it's a world apart, in fact strolling through the store just before Christmas I'd have to say it's one of the better seafood stores in Adelaide now - a tremendous range of fresh and snap frozen fish and seafood, and some truly beautiful prawns. Plenty of staff were on hand, partly due to the proximity to Christmas, I imagine, but they've worked out a good flowthrough for the store - and have all the associated extra's you're likely to need to prepare the produce - garlic, ginger, spices, oils, sauces, coatings abound as you approach the row of checkouts. Parking is good - for the silly season long weekends of Christmas & Easter it gets a little hectic, but otherwise there's plenty of space in the car park, even at it's busiest on Saturday mornings.

You want to feel like…read moreyou are at the real fish markets instead of the Central Markets with every other shopper in town? Funny thing is, it's only a few meters away from the markets, but you know what? It's the best way to get your seafood. I lived around the corner for a few years in Wright Street if you don't know already, so I know there is a marginal difference. Go inside the Markets and line up competing with all the others in there wanting to be served and wanting that same fish that you are coveting... it more or less depends on whose eye you catch. So if you zip out of the Markets and over the road literally a few meters away and take a number at Angelakis in Field Street you have it made. You are a made woman or man. This is the warehouse, or the store. This is where it arrives fresh from the ice, fresh from the boat, fresh from the hook or net - you catch my drift? So this is where you get the prawns, not over at the Market, here where it's quieter and more honest. Less chance of feeling like you will burst if you don't get served next. Like I said, you take a number you wait your turn. It's respectful and actually pretty fast. These guys want to help you, and have a more direct way of sorting you out. They know what they have, it'd be fun to try. Once you've tried this system, you will want to subscribe.

Sunday afternoon television at its finest, with nothing but.... fish recipes. Hoorah. Well at least it goes without saying that if it's on TV then it has got to be of some credibility, right? With this said, if you want it fresh, then come here. Angelakis Bros is always well maintained, and even for an individual like myself, who is not the most fond of seafood, I can actually bare the quick stop here and there when it come to fish like purchases. Within this premise there is not necessarily the guarantee you will receive the cheapest prices in seafood, however it is the best quality for the price you pay. Note difference. If you like fish, or seafood in general, then just do it! It's nice to see a family legacy having taken off this way.

From whole fish, that if you wanted gutted or filleted they'll do it for you and also will hand you the scrappy offcuts so you can make stock or whatever. No mess in your own kitchen, you beauty!! They also have a huge range of crustaceans and shellfish and all the iddy biddy bits like oysters, mussels and scallops. Not to mention all the different sized octopus and squids. One part I wish I could throw myself over and allow my skin to take over the aroma is the smoked fish!!! I freaking love smoked fish!!! I grew up on it as my Popsie always got some for Easter and Christmas. My parents also smoked our catches (usually Tommies) when we were kids. It was from then that stemmed my smoked fish addiction. All of their fish (apart from the smoked sliced salmon, I think!) is smoked on premises. You know this place is fresh when you see the workers out the back doing the sorting/filleting etc. However, there are a few fish that obviously gets imported but they label that to let consumers know. I'm off now to make a delicious seafood chowder and oysters Kilpatrick using what I bought today for my hubby's valentine's day meal. Yep I'm a good wifey!

So, to hear so many people rave about Foodland means they must be doing something right. Friends that live in Norwood think they have the best Foodland. Same with those living in Mitcham. I'm a huge fan of my local at Frewville and this is my review, so I can say wholeheartedly, I think Frewville tops them all! I've been shopping here for six years and drop in two to three times a week. It had a major renovation in 2011 which has turned it from a daggy site with a great selection of produce, to a sensational, modern site with an array of quality products and a strong focus on local producers. Foodland are big supporters of South Australian products and offer a great range. The foodies I know will often shop here if they can't make it to Grote Street (or can't face the parking hassles) and I know why. I've picked up stuff here that I've never seen in a Woollies or Coles, such as Persian fairy floss or yiros meat in the freezer section. There's even an entire corner at the entrance of the store dedicated to fine foods. The small goods and cheeses available rival the Central Markets (big call, I know, but I stand by it) and there is a dedicated organic fruit and vege stand at the entrance. The staff always have a great attitude and are of all ages and give the impression they genuinely enjoy their job. With the renovation they've introduced a mini cafe at the entrance that offers espresso coffee, lunch items (rolls, wraps etc) and biscuits and cakes. There are a few tables near the checkouts and despite their odd position, there is almost always someone sitting at one of them sipping a coffee or having a bite to eat as I leave. On the odd occasion when a special is too good to forgo, I'll slip over to the nearby Woollies at Arkaba, but generally, you'll find me here, supporting a local company who supports local small business.
