I am not qualified to pass judgement on a physician's professional competence in the field he or…read moreshe practices. I am a trained social scientist with a PhD, not a medical doctor with an MD. I can only relate my experience. I was referred to Dr. Corey C. Burgoyne by my dentist for a simple extraction of a back tooth. Why? Because he did not do extractions. After paying--up front!--a so-called "consultation fee," which proved to be no more than to tell me how many hundred dollars she would receive for extracting the tooth--which also had to be paid right then--she proceeded to numb the area and pull the tooth in the same manner as any dentist. It took only a few minutes. I smiled, as best I could with my jaw numbed, and asked if she got it all out. She said, "Yes!" It became evident, after a few weeks, that she did not in fact get all of the tooth out. A piece of tooth worked its way to the surface. Now that is really not all that unusual. It does happen. So, I went back to Dr. Burgoyne. She took a tweezers and pulled it out. Again, I asked if she got it all out. Again, she answered, "Yes." After a couple of months, it became apparent that a rather large piece of tooth was left firmly in place. Tissue had grown over it, but when I had a partial denture made, the presence of the piece of bone became very apparent. I called Dr. Burgoyne's office to make an appointment for her to finish the job she had started, only to find out that I would have to schedule another so-called consultation to find out just how much it was going to cost me for her to finish the job she failed to successfully complete earlier. And of course, the hundred bucks consultation fee, plus whatever she chose to charge to finish the extraction, would all no doubt need to be paid in advance. Immediately, I wondered if I would be paying in advance for another "attempt" to remove the remaining piece of tooth. After two tries, would she get it right the third time? And why should I pay to have the attempt at extracting the tooth finished, or done right, however one looks at it? Looking at other reviews of Dr. Burgoyne's work, mine was not the only time she failed to remove the whole tooth. Dr. Burgoyne has relieved many positive reviews, even some very glowing reviews. She is not a general dentist, but a surgeon. As a specialist, she deserves to be paid for her expertise. Perhaps she is better at serious surgery than simple tooth extractions. Perhaps she finds pulling a tooth too simple. I cannot say. I can only look back on my experience wishing I had not been referred to her. I needed a dentist who could pull a tooth. Dr. Burgoyne seemed to be more concerned about how many excuses she could find to add additional charges, a hundred for this, a couple more for that, etc. My experience has left me with no confidence in Dr. Burgoyne, and I would not recommend her, not even for a simple tooth extraction.

It all started with the young lady Emily that booked my surgery. My schedule is not flexible due to traveling for work. It literally took her 15 minutes to find me an appointment time that was convenient for myself and Dr. Burgoyne. The procedure and heal time went better than expected. In every-way all my expectations were exceeded. I would recommend anyone in need of their services to give them a call.

They never made any effort to collect any remaining payment from me. No calls. No email. No mail. No reason for me to think I owed them money. 3 years later, I need emergency oral surgery, for which I had to wait a week for a consultation. A day before the consultation the receptionist called me and cancelled the appointment due to small unpaid debt. She was fairly rude about it in a "bless your heart" kind of way. I asked if I get it squared up with their lawyer could we keep the appointment. She said no, and that they would have to get verification that the payment was made and after that it would be the surgeons decision whether or not to accept me as a patient. I immediately called the lawyer and paid the amount. They said that they were notified and tried to reach me at an old address. They never attempted to call. They never attempted email. They said they would let Roanoke Oral Surgery know the amount was paid same day. I might be a weird edge case, but at this point, I feel like Roanoke Oral Surgery mishandled the situation and I question their administrative competence. I am going with another provider, even if I have to wait longer. 0/10 - Do not recommend.
