Twilight zone ah restaurant. The summer evening's gentle humidity greeted me as I woke up from a strange dream. I recall a long room. Tables set. A menu hanging by a thread, the crease counting on one hand how many openings it has left. What is that desolate counter doing there? And those Wayfair basket shelves? Sure, I'll get the Greek Platter. A tasty entree no doubt but an unholy matrimony: the saddest pita bread you'll meet. At no fault to Kinzi, cyclospora weighed heavy on me this meal. Just thought you should know. Soon I'm in the hallway. Washing your hands is righteous, right? Where am I? Laboratory light seems to come from nowhere. Dove white dry paint on the floor and the door. And the handle. Get me out of here. As I descend the steps of purgatory, a siren calls: "Hi! You are currently being recorded!" Motion detectors. But where? And what are we protecting? The patrons from themselves? I'm back, but not for long. This entire time I endured the music. The flat screen does no justice to these poor bare bellied women, forced to dance for eternity, only punctuated by YouTube ads. Then, suddenly, there's an incessant beeping. For a few minutes it won't go away. Then, "Hi! You are currently being recorded!" followed by the cutely sinister chimes. Oh, it's the ice box. He rips something out of the bottom and the beeps dissipate. The kind man approaches. "Hi! You are currently being recorded!" What? Oh! The plates, yes, and the check, yes. "Save Ferris," his shirt reads. Is that who we're guarding? As he walks back, "Hi! You are currently being recorded!" *jingle lingle ling* Time to go. The motion detector once again clocks me as I exit. Everyone should dare to dream. For now, I must wake up. read more

We ordered the tabouli salad, baba ghanoush, and lentil soup. None of the dishes really stood out, but the portions are generous for the price compared to many Mediterranean restaurants. The restaurant appeared to be severely understaffed, our server was also cooking, and it seemed like only one person was running the entire place. Because of that, service and cleanliness suffered a bit, and the tables and menus felt slightly sticky. I'd probably recommend takeout over dining in, but I also got the sense that this was more of a staffing issue than a lack of effort. read more

Light, fresh, garlicky. I ordered online directly from the store. It was super easy and uncomplicated. I went to pick it up and it was ready to go. I was only in there for a minute tops but I did note that it wasn't the largest place. The individual I interacted with to get my order wasn't super friendly but wasn't rude either. So I can't really speak on the service or overall atmosphere. Food: I ordered the gyro sandwich. You get a choice of beef, lamb, or chicken. I went with lamb. It's served with lettuce, tomato, onions, and a specialty sauce. I ordered mine with the sauce on the side to prevent sogginess. It came with a choice of rice or hummus and I went with the hummus. The gyro was averaged size. The pita bread was good and the veggies were fresh. The lamb was good. The sauce has a lot of flavor and is very herbaceous. The sandwich is pretty dry without it so I definitely recommend it. The gyro was not greasy or heavy but there was a lot of garlic. It would make a good lunch but make sure to have a mint at minimum if you're planning on going back to the office. The hummus was also good and there was a generous portion, I needed more pita bread! I did feel that the price point is a bit high. The sandwich with a side was about $14. If you want a sandwich with a soup or salad will run you between $21-$24. Similar establishments have a sandwich that comes with a side plus a soup or salad for around $13. And for me, Kinzi was not any better than the place I'm referencing. Overall: 7/10 read more

My daughter, grandson, and I had lunch here on Monday. My meal was delicious with the exception of the pita bread offered that was cut into about 6 wedges. It was cold which took away from my enjoyment of the hummus. The roast veggies, basmati rice, and lamb, and hummus were done to perfection. The owners are so welcoming. read more

I'm writing this review stuffed to the brim full of Mediterranean food. This morning, as with most Saturdays, me and the old ball and chain were training to decide what to eat for lunch and this dude of mine says "Mediterranean food...I want hummus, I want olives, I want Turkish coffee." Say no more, love of my life...I have Yelp. First, I was not prepared for the prices. In today's economy, I was BLOWN AWAY at how reasonable their prices were. We got all this food, dessert and Turkish coffee for right at $35 (pre-tip.) We started with Turkish coffee (I saved mine until the end of the meal to eat with dessert and it was perfect drinking temperature) wanted to try a bit of everything so we got the Greek Sampler and the Gyro pizza. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. The meats were seasoned to perfection and juicy. The hummus and baba ghanouj were smooth and a perfect pairing with the pita, which managed to be slightly crispy on top and pillowy soft underneath which was both impressive and delectable! Dessert was a trio of philo dough temptations that balanced out beautifully with the richness of the Turkish coffee. We loved the food, enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and our server was very nice and tentative without being intrusive! Altogether, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely remember this next time we go back! PS...special mention to that gyro pizza, the mozzarella on that is special, truly a gem. read more

TL;DR: Was looking forward to trying out Kinzi based on the reviews but there are much stronger Mediterranean restaurants around the KC metro for the price (recommendations at the bottom). If you end up trying Kinzi anyway, I'd recommend the gyros and the baba ganoush, which both had this great smokiness throughout. My friends and I came and ordered the Lamb Kabobs, the Beef Shawarma, and the Greek Sampler, which has baba ganoush, dolma, gyro, tzatziki, and hummus. Nothing was particularly wrong flavor-wise, but the lamb kabobs came out tough and dry, the dolma and pita were remarkably similar in appearance and taste to grocery store dolma (Trader Joe's) and pita, and overall I wished that there was more of everything. The price is slightly lower than other Mediterranean restaurants in the area, but the portions are much smaller than they appear across the board. Ambiance-wise, it was also a weird place, with a strange mix of décor and condiments (first time I've ever seen sriracha at a Mediterranean restaurant). The place was completely empty except for one girl at the counter who disappeared into the back whenever she wasn't bringing food out. No complaints about the service but definitely not a date night spot. Overall, not a bad experience but wouldn't come back. If you're looking for an alternative, I'd recommend Meddy's in north OP for something fast and easy or for something more authentic and local, Queen of Mediterranean (Lenexa), Holy Land Cafe (Lenexa), or Yafa Cafe (Overland Park). read more

We just moved back to this area from CA. A friend said that Kinzi is the best Mediterranean restaurant here in Fairway/Mission area. We tried it for lunch and he was right! Wife had the chicken shawarma sandwich and I had the baba ghanouj. Surprisingly good and will be back to try other dishes soon. Service was very fast and friendly. This was my second time to Kinzi. The lamb and beef gyros are delicious. It's the go to gyro that's close to me. The rice wasn't as flavorful as the 1st time, though still good. It is a family owned restaurant which is definitely a plus for me to support. Service was prompt. Menus were kinda stuck to the tablecloth but it could be the cleaner they used. Is Kinzi's going out of business? I have tried to go there 4 times in the last 3 months. 3 times at about 6pm they were out of rice. The 4th time was just 2 days ago at 5pm and they were out of chicken for their kabobs (my favorite meal here). Also the last 4 times I have been there only 1 employee was there. On a recent visit to the Mission area of town, we were on the hunt for something yummy for the whole family... Enter Kinzi! Lots of great reviews, awesome location on Johnson Drive, and a super yummy-looking menu brought us here for lunch on a late 2023 Friday. The dining room is nice, comfortable, and clean - very standard fare for a strip mall setup. It's open seating inside, so we grabbed a comfy booth on the wall, and were promptly provided menus and waters. Three out of four of us ordered miscellaneous, myriad, Mediterranean meats and eats. Our "picky" eater always provides us a bit of a challenge. Upon asking, our waitress graciously agreed to a "plain rice-and-chicken" dish that the kitchen could whip up to satisfy his tastebuds. Perfect! All the food came out quickly, and was utterly, absolutely delicious! I asked for extra spice in my biryani, and I'm glad I did, as even with the "extra", it was what I would rate a moderate-mild level of spice. But, said biryani, falafel, all dips, gyro and rice were all fantastic! Our waitress appeared to be the only person working the entire dining room, so, while she kept pretty busy, it did make for slightly slow service at each table. Great authentic Mediterranean cuisine. The hummus and pita were fresh and excellent flavor. The saffron rice has a nice spice and flavor to it as well. I really wanted to like this place. I am always looking to try something new! I ordered off of grubhub for pickup for an early dinner/ late lunch. I liked the hummus a lot! After that it kinda stops there. There's nothing nice about the ambiance of the restaurant, but I wasn't eating there so it doesn't matter to me. The worker I interacted with was not particularly friendly. I got an assortment platter. The baba ghanoush did not taste very good and was too lumpy. Carry out review: Amazing Baba Ghanouj! It was so fresh and flavorful. I would have preferred a bit less oil though. :( it came with about 12 small triangles of pita. I could have used quite a few more for the amount of baba ghanouj. The service was quick and the employees were kind. However, the restaurant was a bit of a mess. Maybe they were short handed that night? About 5 dirty tables in the dining room. Also, the women's bathroom soap was out. I am becoming obsessed with this local little Mediterranean spot in Mission. Kinzi is located amongst other businesses just off Johnson Drive and I have visited for lunch many times. If there is any drawback, it's that you may wait just a bit to order or be seated. It is a fairly small business and the person who takes your order may also be the person who prepares it. No matter, it is worth the wait and the food is absolutely delicious. I am particularly fond of the chicken gyro plate. The meat if so flavorful, served with a basmati rice full of fresh vegetables, fresh hummus and pita bread, and their "signature" sauce that may quite possibly be the most amazing thing ever! If you love garlic, then you will love this sauce. The chicken shawarma is also delicious. Kinzi is a healthy, friendly, unique alternative for lunch, dinner, or carryout. Give it a try! read more

Without knowing what they were like pre pandemic, I can say the food during has been a diamond in the rough. Savory pies, think more pizza style, are great as a appetizer or entree. Salads and kabob's have been my go to. The rice seems to have a flavor I can't quite place but the consistency is similar to a pre cooked, not mushy at all, firm and thoroughly cooked. I liked it but someone in the group last time compared it to rice a roni, I didn't see our taste that. I only highlight the rice as it seems culturally a big deal or so it seems. It was yellow in color and had bits of chopped vegetable, which I found tasty. Hummus is smooth and creamy with a strong tahini and garlic flavor that I prefer. Another unique offering, Kibbeh, a beautifully fried golden sphere filled with meat, nuts and spices. Wonderfully comforting treat that I've only ever had at a home as a guest. It's an open space with plenty of room for social distancing but the carry quality is certainly there. No bells or whistles, with a hint of middle eastern decor. Has a decent sized parking lot that is shared with its other neighbor's that I've never had an issue finding a spot in. I only highlight this as parking spaces lately seem to be in scarcity. Enough on the menu that each individual could find a satisfying meal but not too much that it's overwhelmingly hard to make the decision. Worth a visit for the experience for sure. read more

Stopped in to give this place a try today and decided on getting it to go. As you walk in there are some nice tables and booths available for seating and a back counter for ordering to go with desserts on display. The place looks really clean overall and doesn't have a strong curry smell or anything. The only downfall we had was the wait time for to-go was about 20 minutes. I ordered the chicken kabob entree and my husband got the beef gyro sandwich. He chose the hummus side and I my entree came with hummus and rice. Both came with pita bread. Very impressed by this place. Incredibly clean and the staff is so welcoming. The prices are ridiculously low for all the food you get. While the spinach pie wasn't good tasting in my opinion (I think it was the sumac flavor I didn't care for,) I was still so impressed by the fact that it was homemade, huge, and cost only $4.99!! I took my leftovers home and my daughter loved it. The hummus is delicious and so fresh. Love that it's served with warm pita. So glad I decided to check this place out. I've been really struggling with how to write this review. We had a bad experience here, but I blame probably 90% of that bad experience on our server, which makes it hard to know how to really rate the experience. For me, the experience was bad enough that I will not likely return, even though the food was enjoyable for the most part. I don't want to get overly dramatic with our situation as I'm hoping it was isolated to our specific situation, but I'll give a basic rundown so you can understand where I'm coming from. There were 6 of us. We arrived on a Friday evening around 5pm. The restaurant was not busy. We got settled in; we hadn't all seen each other in a while so we were a bit slow ordering. We seemed to immediately fluster our server. She brought waters, never did drink orders (never did refills of those waters either). When it came time to order, we asked her if she wanted a certain person to begin and she just kind of shrugged so we picked the "guest of honor" to begin. It seemed difficult for her to note the orders or maybe understand us. I really don't know if it was a language barrier. We could understand her, but she just seemed very confused and uncertain and had to have us repeat a lot, etc. I don't feel like our orders were complex or had special requests or were even all that different from one another. She just really seemed to lack confidence. Anyway, we got the orders in and it wasn't all that long until the food started coming out. We were visiting, so I didn't pay much attention to the time, but it wasn't anything that seemed extremely long. When the food came out, she just kind of brought the items in random order, she didn't have any recollection of who ordered what so it was a bit of a mess getting each item to the right spot. She wasn't great at speaking up or saying things in complete sentences so we had to really almost interrogate her to get her to tell us what she had in her hand, etc. When she got done, one of us didn't have our food, so we told her that. She came back with a totally different dish (she had ordered a gyro sandwich, she came back with a kebab meal). She tried to give the kebab meal to our friend and our friend explained that wasn't what she ordered. The server said something like "Ok, but you'll still like it". Our friend insisted that no, she'd rather have what she ordered. The server seemed disappointed with this decision so retreated to the kitchen to return with what our friend actually ordered in a very short time, so short that it seems unlikely that they had time to make the item new, so it left us wondering why she was so forceful about trying to get this friend to take the wrong food if the right food was there. When it came time for the checks, that was a mess. I know splitting checks is a bit of a mess, but this was a new definition of MESS. She just couldn't get it straight. She started accusing one of the friends of actually eating two complete meals (not the friend from before) to which she had to really like promise her that she was 100% sure she did not eat two full meals. It got kind of ugly because the server just could not get it straight. I told her to bring a piece of paper and we'd write it out for her, but she wouldn't. She wanted us all to crawl through a now-full restaurant to the back to get it straightened out and I refused to do it. I told her she could bring the stuff out and we'd straighten it out at the table. Finally a couple of the friends went back and got it straigtened out. We left feelling like they treated us like we were stealing from them. Then I couldn't get in my car because someone in a car with a Kinzi plate was parked up against my car with the door open, sitting there smoking right at the front door. Finally he closed the door so I could get in my car. It was a very frustrating experience. We liked the location and comfortable dining room, but the service was just unforgiveable (I left out quite a bit of the weirdness.) The food was not bad. I felt like a couple of us that ordered the same thing had items with very different amounts of meat on them, but I didn't sit and measure exactly. Later when eating left overs, the kebabs had VERY, VERY raw chicken on the center pieces of meat. So, I'm just going to say that I'm not going to likely return to this spot. I'm not sure others would have the same experience we had, so if you want to give it a try, go for it. read more

Closest Mediterranean for me. Tried this a month back and really liked the chicken dishes. Light but flavorful and you know it's good food when even after eating you feel good. Quantity is really good. Last week, Had few friends coming over so decided to order some food from Kinzi. They were really nice, gave meat - rice - veggies in separate trays. Sauces were given in different containers. They garnished the hummus, falafels and everything very nicely. They placed everything in my car and my guests really liked the food and the presentation. We have ordered takeout from Kinzi a couple of times and it may just be our new favorite spot for Mediterranean food in Kansas City! Everything we have tried has been delicious- the chicken shawarma plate, gyro plate, hummus with pita, spicy lamb curry, and spanakopita. I do have to say the prices are a little higher than other places in the area, but the food is very good. The portion for the hummus and pita bread appetizer is humongous!
