What a waiste of time. I have mixed textured hair, naturally curly.. I was looking forward to this appointment to have curl definition and a style. I booked online and paid extra for deep conditioning. The style was horrible! She just put gel in my hair and called that a style.. she didn't even try to define the curl or enhance it. What mean by that, she saw that it wasn't curling, she didn't offer to use straws, rods, twist up....nothing.. not even a defuser or dryer was used, i was told the service was over with wet gel drenched hair! 45.00 later, I learned NEVER TO GO here again. read more

Monique, Your comment just proves my point that you do not take accountability for your actions and can't admit that you made a mistake in not showing up for a confirmed appt. My review is absolutely honest but it looks like you are one that can't handle the truth. We both know that the appointment was confirmed before you sent any texts the same day of the appt. If this was brought to court you would look like a fool because I have written documentation that the appointment was confirmed and was never cancelled. You made the decision not to show up or call. And when I did try to contact you, you did not answer the phone by neither myself nor your work colleagues at the salon. read more

I went to Kinky Peaches for a big chop during the summer because I wanted something different. Serriah did my big chop and after she finished my hair it looked great! she was able to see my curls defined and it appeared beautiful However, after a week later i noticed that my "big chop" wasnt necessarily the healthiest cut. All ofmy curls dont curl in small areas and some ends are frayed where it looks as though they weren't cut properly. I dont feel comfortable with the level of service I've received and even after contacting them via text, which is is their preferred method of communication, they didn't even respond. i did have the pleasure of interacting with Monique, after some troubling experiences but she helped with that, so no need to re-hash it. But, i probably wouldnt reccommend this place to a friend for a big chop. Wasted $60.00 for hair that may end up damaged anyway if I dont have someone else take a look at it and trim the pieces I have already paid to have cut. Good Luck on your journey ladies! The fact you were even able to get an appointment blows my mind. I purchased a voucher months ago and didn't get a response until after signing up on her waiting list a 2nd time. She asked what service I purchased and I copy and pasted the language from the voucher but apparently that didn't clarify. I sent her the voucher and didn't get a response (I would assume as a business owner, I'd know what promotions I offered to what company). Then I follow up again a few weeks later only to be told she's now booked through the end of the year (would have been nice to be told that a month ago when I requested the appointment). Still trying to make this work (since she stated on her site she would honor the voucher as long as you got on her list prior to your expiration date), I asked to get the next available slot and I have yet to get a response. Is it really that hard to open the scheduling book/calendar to see when the next available date is? Since you're able to book an appointment online without a voucher (I just checked and there are 7 days with 10 time slots available next month), I think those of us with vouchers are having to pay for the fact that more were bought than she anticipated and are being wait listed. I would have never purchased had I known I'd be put on a separate timetable. She may do a good job if you ever get in the chair but I feel the lack of professionalism leaves little to be desired and can understand the prior poster's review. The only thing that I can say about this kinkypeaches is please do not purchase those Groupon coupons because getting an appointment is darn near impossible. I sent her two emails through her client booking site and in two months I still recieve a response. So I sent her an email about getting a refund and she told me that she didn't see a request from me and that I need to contact Groupon. I was able to use my Groupon voucher! It was a long wait but well worth the wait. My stylist was so gentle in caring for my hair. Mimimal hair loss!! She was better at detangling my hair than me, no tugging, pulling, ripped hair.... I am nervous to allow hair stylists touch my hair because so many of them are so rough but not here. I got a perm rod set and it turned out perfectly! All of my questions were answered patiently and knowledgeably. Great conversationalist! I cant wait to go back! I came away knowing that my natural hair had truly been cared for. Monique was my stylist and she did an excellent job. *In this review I will not be reviewing services rendered or the stylist skill level because I was not serviced. This is a tale of caution... **Pretty long but I wanted to paint the entire picture Like many others my tale begins with the purchase of a Groupon in Feb of 2013. I have been to a stylist once since July of 2011 (was pleased with the look but not the way my kinky, tangle prone hair was handled during styling). Understandably I was wary of trying another stylist. After reading that Kinky Peaches does not use heat or color, I got the impression that my hair would get the TLC needed, plus paying $30 for a supposed $80 worth of services made the choice that much easier. I am a long time procrastinator, so of course I waited until late July of 2013 to try to schedule an appointment to use my groupon expiring August 20th. I dialed the number provided and was somewhat taken aback when the recorded outgoing message informed me that making an appointment via the phone was not an option and that I would have to make my appointment online. No worries because I have ready access to the internet (I did wonder about the older women i.e. my grandmother, who may be discouraged with not being able to speak directly with someone). I had no success scheduling an appointmet online (after trying several times over a course of a week) BUT was successful with being added to a waiting list...that would then give me a chance to schedule an actual appointment (????). And since I was on the waiting list proir to my groupon expiration date, the groupon promotional pricing would still be honored. In early Oct 2013 it dawned on me...I had been put on the waiting list in early August yet had not been contacted. I then made the decision to visit the Kinky Peaches facebook page (which btw has nothing but glowing reviews) and sure enough there was a tab to make an appointment. I decied to schedule it for the saturday before Thanksgiving. Before confirming my appointment I was required to make a $7 deposit via paypal. This was another odd practice but made up my mind that that $7 would be "gratuity". The morning of my appointment I was running late and text to let the stylist know I would be 10-15 mins late. I got an immediate response. I arrived at the (wrong)address and wasted 10 mins looking for the suite. My husband suggested I call to get directions but (SURPRISE!) my call went unanswered. I then text to let the stylist know I was there but had spent the last 10 mins looking for the location. I was called and given directions to the correct place. Upon arrival I was met at the door and had to ask the individual if she was the person that I was looking for(may be I was supposed to make the introductions?!?) Once we made it back to her suite I did like the small, intimate set up, just you, her, a wash bowl and styling chair. She looked at my hair and said, "It's in twists."....yes I normally wash my hair in large twists but sensing that may be a problem for her I immediately began untwisting my 15 or so chunky twist. We confirmed that I wanted a rod set. I also took that moment to explain to her I did not have my groupon but could bring it up on my phone. She gave pause and then explained that I had to have chosen the wrong option when scheduling my appointment because she doesn't service groupon users on saturday. And she would go ahead and do my hair but I would have to pay the difference (?!?) I replied that I did in fact choose the correct option and no, I was not prepared to pay any difference. In a span of 45 mins(looking for the suite, her unapproving appraisal of my hair, being accused of being a dumbass) I had been turned off from the whole experience and was happy to walk away with a verbal agreement to refund me my $7 "deposit" First thing monday, I sent an email referencing my cancelled appointment and politely requesting my refund. In my email I made mention of the last 4 of the card charged, the charge date and the receipt number. 24 hours later I got a response stating record of my payment could not be located. Turns out my payment was being looked for in the November receipts...even though in my initial email I explicitedly stated the charge was in October and again I had provided my receipt number. I was also able to get a refund from Groupon. In conclusion, I would like to sincerely thank the stylist of Kinky Peaches for making me a confirmed and dedicated "kitchen beautician". read more

I had a great experience with Kinky Peaches owner Monique. I love that she only does natural hair and that she focuses on styling techniques she knows well and has perfected so that she's thoroughly knowledgeable and expert at them -- none of this jack of all trades, master of none stuff: What she does she does extremely well. I appreciated that she also took the time to show me EXACTLY what I need to do and products I should buy to replicate the look (a wash and go) myself: It's two days after my appointment and, following her directions, my hair looks as good as when she did in the salon -- and I did it myself! Another bonus: she recommended inexpensive products that I can buy anywhere, not expensive products like so many stylists do. Monique was awesome at detangling my hair, too, something I was dreading having someone else do. Finally, I absolutely love, love, love that she allots enough time for each appointment, this shows real respect for her customers' time. I happily give her 5 stars, the only thing I might criticize is that in addition to my wash and go + henna treatment I got a consultation and, while Monique was great -- answered all my questions patiently and was so knowledgeable! -- it didn't feel like enough value to be a separate service: To me, it was simply info a stylist should automatically share with her clients during the course of the service. That said, her prices are so reasonable that I didn't mind paying for the consultation for a first visit. I would only suggest that Monique do something to make consultations more valuable: For example, at the end of the appointment she can print/email the client a "hair profile" that explains their hair type and gives tips/product recos for daily/weekly/monthly maintenance, plus instructions for maintaining the style they received. All that said, it was a wonderful salon experience for me: Monique was a lovely person, great to talk to, and I left feeling like FINALLY I know what to do with my hair. I'm writing such a long review -- my first ever on Yelp -- because I've avoided going to salons for ages because it's so hard to find a good, respectful stylist, especially for natural kinky hair like mine, and I feel very lucky to have found Kinky Peaches. This is my first salon visit in YEARS and I can't believe I found her through a random Google search. I feel like I hit the jackpot . . . except I don't live in Atlanta, I'm only visiting. Too bad for me, but I have family here and I'll definitely come back to Monique whenever I come home in the future.
