The food comes out fast, the staff is plenty, but the sushi is fine. It's not the best nor the worse consider it fast food sushi

The atmosphere of this place is different than I've come to expect from a sushi restaurant. There is a gift shop (?) upon entering and a variety of advertisement posters on the walls. They were very helpful in making sure my gluten allergy was taken care of, even asking about cross contamination concerns. The servers were all friendly and helpful. However, the food unfortunately was par at best. I tried the spicy tuna roll, Philadelphia roll, and hanabi oshizushi. I liked the spicy tuna the best out of the three but definitely wasn't blown away. The rest of my table tried the pork goyoza, hot beef roll, and beef teriyaki. They were very impressed by the teriyaki and said the beef was tender and very flavorful. The rest of the items were satisfactory but again nothing we'd come back for. I also had a blood orange cocktail which tasted very similar to an orange soda. Overall, this place isn't bad for very casual mediocre sushi but not somewhere I'm itching to come back to. read more

The staff and quality of service here is excellent, which is why I really want this restaurant to remain successful. They used to have the best ramen in town, and I went there often to enjoy a bowl. A few years ago they replace the bok choi with corn, and now I see they have removed kimchi from the dish. The overall result is a flavourless mess that I will not be eating again. If they are trying to reduce costs, I suggest that reducing food quality is not the way to go. I would happily pay an extra dollar for a really great bowl of ramen, and I would keep coming back for more. As it is, I will not be returning I'm afraid. read more

This place is not what it used to be. The food was pretty good, but not as good as it was. Our server was kind and friendly. The restaurant has definitely gone down hill. We used to come here often when we lived here. Now we come each time we visit. This has been the most disappointing visit to date. It used to be so classy and now it's gone fast-food, poster-pushing trashy. Everywhere you look you are overwhelmed with advertising for their own products. Things you'd normally see only at the table in the small acrylic frames are now taped up everywhere! Also, coloring pages are taped to the walls. The bathroom signs warding people away from their back employee section are printed in laminated signs every few feet. Clearly, finding the washroom has become a chore for guests to find so they had to resort to cheap signage. Let's get down to the food. First thing they did was offer regular soy sauce. We had to request their house sweet soy sauce. Their sweet soy sauce is one of the main components that sets them apart from other sushi restaurants. Second the Tabikko. They are scaled back noticeably, like 70-80% from what they used to provide. Their portions of other things like their sauces have also gone down. We did wait 20 min for one of our rolls which apparently got forgotten. We reminded them it hadn't made it to us and they quickly got it back in line to be made. Lastly, what happened to leaving with a nice box of pocky? It's the little things that make all the difference. This is the newest of all the Kinjo's in the city having Just opened this year (2017). My favourite location is still the Millrise location, however, I expect as the area continues to grow around this location it will get busier. Parking is good but I think when there is more businesses it will go down a little bit but not much. Kinjo definitely has the best building in the lot being in the centre. I miss the pocky room from the Milrise location and I also notice that they have taken many things off the menu form the transfer. They offer things at the Milrise location that they don't at the Mahogany location such as Dynamite cones with the soy paper wrapper. I still love the atmosphere and how they make everyone feel so welcome :) read more

Very family/Kid friendly, but also an extremely busy Kinjo location. Probably wont be a favorite place to come for sushi. Sushi was rushed and very mediocre. Their fried rice was also so-so. We waited 20 minutes for the first few sushi rolls to come and another 40 minutes for the rest. Again, we came here on valentines for the first time and gave them a 2nd chance a week later. Again, food came late and sushi was again mediocre. They also missed one of our orders and the whole restaurant was not busy at all. Service is also okay, but lacks any sort of effort or friendliness. Forgot our pocky and we had to remind the waiter after waiting another 15 minutes after paying the bill. Sad to say we might not come back. Might come visit again, if this was the closest and the only option for sushi in the area. read more

First time to the newest Kinjo in Calgary. Overall very lively atmosphere as you are greeted loudly by staff as all Kinjos. Staff are very friendly and super fast. Dining area is large with many booths and small steps to different levels of sitting. Decor is very clean and there are televisions throughout. Menu is same which is very large and pricing is decent. Of course the manager is around asking how food is and carry pokey candy for kids and females (adult males out of luck ) Overall a new fav sushi for SE Calgary and very family friendly too. read more

First time here since they opened. Our server Jisun was very friendly and food service was quick. We came on a rainy Saturday evening and there were lots of empty tables. The restaurant it self is quite large and modern. The menu has a wide selection of sushi, rolls and cooked food to please any person. My favourite was the spicy salmon hand cone which was fresh and had a good ratio of salmon to rice. The tiger roll was good, I really like the crunchy topping. The only dish we didn't like was the beef tataki there wasn't enough ponzu sauce it taste bland. Overall it was a nice experience; casual dining with decent sushi. read more

We ordered from here a few times during Covid-19. The food is consistent with the 14th St location. One if the rolls was sloppily rolled but otherwise the way the food tasted was good. What has happened!?! I've been eating at Kinjo since Peter was there regularly with his Samurai sword and there was only one Kinjo! So I have an allergy and it's a pain and makes picking restaurants and then menu items pretty important. During COVID we haven't gone out a lot - it's three meals a day every day that I cook. Exhausting! Today I thought I'd try some take out at old reliable Kinjo. I kept with what I know - or thought I did. What I wound up with - accidentally - was 10 servings of "grilled" prawns covered in a batter I couldn't eat. I'll accept that we needed to check the darn order better (online got stuck - wifi? Half way through so we hadn't realized it had added every time we tried to "add" though it hadn't originally told us). I don't blame Kinjo for our negligence. It would have been nice if someone noticed our error and we didn't get a receipt so my partner who picked it up so my partner couldn't check it against a receipt. He picked it up and the gentleman who provided it said "you are the gluten free" and pointed out that one of the sauces had gluten. We had also asked for one of our items not to be breaded because that's the way we order it in house because we know it had breading. Now I've had the replan shrimp before - many times - and maybe they know my face and recognize that EVERY item we are ordering is sans flour but we had no idea that we would wind up with 10(!!) servings of a breaded shrimp. I called and asked them to help me out ($90 later). I was given excuses and although they apologized for my error (yes only I made an error here) they would not be doing anything about it. This company may have gotten too big to care about the average customer but I'm not too small to complain. I won't be recommending this location to anyone else. PS: the one tray of shrimp were burnt and the avocado on one of our sushi was brown and the Ika looked like someone had split it in two and then pushed it around the dish so it looked like more than it was. My boyfriend and I had Kinjo Sushi & Grill again last night. We went to the one located on 7 Mahogany Heights SE Unit 200, Calgary, which is 10 minutes drive from our place. It's a brand new location on South East side of Calgary. It was our 2nd time been to this location. We didn't have a great experience on our first time try. But, we had a great experience this time. Environment: We got the restaurant when it just opened. There were no too many people there yet. Inside the restaurant was nice and clean. We got the table very fast. As we sat down, our server brought the menu to the table and began to serve the drink. Service: Our table server is an Asian guy. He was very nice and friendly. He took the order very fast and also brought a teapot for us for the extra water. Food: We have ordered three special rolls, such as Golden Dragon Roll (8pcs), Jay-Mak Roll (8pcs), and spicy crunch rolls (8pcs). Besides that, we also ordered Ikayaki and special tataki 6pcs. Our food came out kitchen very fast. They were all fresh and well-cooked. We did a great job to order those special rolls. The spicy crunch roll is 8 pcs, which made by tobiko, cucumber, squid legs, spicy crisp, and volcano sauce. The Jay-Mak Roll is one of my favourite rolls. It made by spicy salmon, lettuce, avocado, crispy wonton, and unagi sauce. Unagi Sauce is super tasty. I love it. Golden Dragon Roll has shrimp tempura, unagi, cucumber, cream cheese, spicy crisp, unagi sauce, and hot sauce. Although all the special rolls have hot and spicy sauce on, the taste of the rolls are not spicy at all. They were all tasty. We loved the food so much. Prices: The prices of the rolls and dishes at Kinjo are a little bit of expensive. I believe it was totally worth the prices. In summary, we enjoyed our 2nd-time experiences at Kinjo. You won't see Peter Kinjo around anymore, he's a rare sighting like Sasquatch. He has left managing in the trusty hands of Andre. This is number 5 out of 5 Kinjo's built thus far. I like Kinjo's because they make you feel valued when you come here. The food is pretty consistent, so If you're familiar with Kinjo's then I need not describe the food. This is a big bright space, and as long as you don't come during peak times the service is pretty good. I come here quite often, so I've been on the other end of the service spectrum when it has been extremely busy. Give this place a try familiar or not with the Kinjo chain of restaurants. My only tip when eating here is that beware of ALL the small dishes that cost 4-7 dollars. They can add up quite quickly. My husband and I love this location! To start the food is amazing!!! Try the grilled rack or lamb,magic steak, tempura shrimp and the meso black cod! Also if you are wanting to have something refreshing to drink you have to try the fruit bubble tea. Now the food is amazing, but what makes this place so fantastic is the owner. The owner is personable, kind and extremely attentive with patrons. On numerous locations he personally welcomed some colleagues and myself to the restaurant and gave us a free bubble tea on an extremely hot day, on another occasion he gave my toddler a treat of poky cookies while we waited for a table, and tonight he spoiled my husband and myself and personally made us meso fish and gifted us that as well as a rack of lamb. We felt appreciated the kind gesture and always look forward to the experience of dinning out here! read more

My first time coming to this restaurant and overall I was impressed. The aesthetics of the place is modern yet very calming and comfortable. The customer service was absolutely amazing considering every employee asked if we needed something often. The restaurant is clean and the kitchen is out in the open so you can the cooks working away on the orders. The food was decent quality with a lot of options to choose from. The sushi was fresh and of great quality. When I was leaving to pay for the check, the General manager introduces himself and was very concerned how our experience was. In return for being a first timer, he let us choose a free food item from their mini store they have inside the place. The newest Kinjo opened on April 1st. No April foolin' here. This location is big. There's probably a good 50 tables with some of them being pretty sizable booths. They had a ton of staff working and the customers were cycling through at a pretty quick pace. Despite only being open for a week the staff seem to have everything running pretty smoothly. As with most sushi places these days they sit you down with a photo menu and a spreadsheet with all of the items listed. Just write in the quantity of each thing you want and the menu is whisked away to the kitchen. They started us off with a sample plate which consisted of 4 different rolls. The rest of our food came quite quickly with the sushi and tempura items coming first followed by the cooked items like the yakitori and noodles. My wife doesn't eat fish so the process was a little off pace for a normal dinner as she watched me eat all the sushi while nibbling on tempura and edamame then I watched her eat (ok I ate some too) all of the cooked stuff. Overall the sushi is solid, not the best ever, but good for Calgary standards. The service dipped off a little after we were done eating. It took quite a while to get our bill, then another long wait for our server to come by with the machine. Our whole bill came to just shy of $50 which is on par for the two of us at any restaurant, sushi or not. read more

Staff poorly trained, orders mixed up, missing items, cold ramen soup, bad/unfresh scallops sent back, don't bring pocky or starter sample plate any more. Sunomo is not available anymore (almost every other sushi place has this). The new Japan store build in the middle of restaurant looks tacky and takes away from whole feel. Used to like Kinjo but will never go back or order from them again. They have really gone down hill. read more

I have three awesome sushi restaurants within walking distance to my place in North Vancouver, so needless to say this place doesn't compare. The sushi was average, I guess. The service - not so great. The day we went wasn't very busy at all, with lots of wait staff just standing around. Our dishes came one at a time, pretty normal, but my partners cold noodle soup took especially long for some reason. You'd think that would've been til he first dish served straight away actually. I love Kinjo Sushi! and have been a loyal customer since their first location on Macleod Trail. Tonight in Mahogany we ordered our typical, Dynamite roll, Volcano roll, tuna Sashimi, veggie roll, ginger chicken, and teriyaki beef. The food is always amazing! Tonight's service however, was subpar. Not once did the waitress come by and refill our drinks, and we waited suspiciously long for our food to come out (About 25 min). I don't usually mind waiting for food at any restaurant however this is not typical for Kinjo at any location. Regardless we will be back as we are die-hard Kinjo lovers. If you have not had Ginger chicken, you NEED to try it! read more

These guys get it! From the very first opening the service has been so good. Always with the warm shout of "Welcome" in Japanese. This is a chain of restaurants from all over and the sushi is consistent with each location. It's always busy and even at busy times they always make it a point to make each guest feel welcomed. We had the Dynamite Rolls and the Kissing Dragons which was fantastic. These guys definitely deserve a 5 star for being Awesome all of the time. read more

Kinjo, is a great family oriented Japanese restaurent. The business prides itself in offering child friendly options through their menu. All of the servers I've had in my visits were friendly and offers a great deal of patience with kids. They are attentive to their guest and do go the extra mile to make kids feel welcome and wanted in all if they restaurents. If you have not read or heard about the owner story you definetly should. It is heart warming to hear successe stories like his. Continue the good work and you will lots of happen little customer returning when they are all grown up! read more

I give these guys a Zero! I was just at the District locations. We were told the wait was 15 minutes; there was still no table after waiting 30 minutes, so we left. We saw many people walking in and being seated right away. I am guessing those customers may have had reservations. Still, how is it that Kinjo keeps customers who are already at the location waiting for a table, to save tables for people who may or may not show up later??? This is the wrong business model!! I find the customer service at the District location extremely lacking. They do not care to give an update to customers on the waiting period, even when they see them standing there, waiting for more than 30 minutes. Am I supposed to tip the receptionist to get a table quicker?? Is this legal? With this bad service, I rather eat somewhere else where customers are treated with respect. read more

Kinjo is a pretty popular sushi chain in Calgary, the latest building opened up close by me to I figured I should give it a try. I ordered through skip the dishes so we took everything to go which definitely affected the quality of things like tempura - who orders tempura to go?! haha we do apparently. The rolls were good though and hubs ordered the chicken stirfry, didn't see an option to add rice as a side or to the dish which was unfortunate as it would have been a good add on. They also give out pocky for dessert which is a nice touch. They were very busy when we picked up dinner, the restaurant was packed and lots of uber drivers were picking up takeout. read more
