EBB is have to visit if you are Seattle. Skip the bubblegum wall and the original Starbucks. If you truly want to see Seattle, visit Elliott Bay Book and you will thank me later. I wish I had more time to visit every section and shelf. I wandered aimelessly at first then found myself in Queer True Crime. I ended up having a fantastic conversation with a lovely human at the information desk. I don't remember their name but they even spoke with my daughter on my iPhone as I was looking for a particular book for my wife. I was also on the hunt for Etna, a novel but it was sold out. I ended up purchasing per a staff recommendation, 'Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris' by Georges Perec Reading the first couple of pages instantly transported back to Paris, a place I know extemely well, and I saw every bus, man, woman, child, server worker, and heard every klaxon and shouted obscenity. Do yourself a favor and search out Elliot Bay Book when you visit Seattle, you'll be supporting a local business and feeding your mind and soul.

The handwritten staff recommendation notes posted along the shelves are a fun touch, and having a cozy cafe tucked inside makes it easy to grab a drink and get lost in browsing for an hour or two. It is definitely a cool, memorable stop in the neighborhood whether you are hunting for a specific read or just soaking in the literary vibes.

He introduced himself as the owner's brother and brought a lot of positive energy into the space. We always enjoy visiting this shop when we're in the area, and we look forward to seeing how it grows and changes in the coming months, as the new owner fully realizes her vision. Pro-Tip: If you, like us, came here partly for the large soap inventory, you should know that these particular items are much more limited at this time. Pro-Tip 2: They have a great assortment of lighthearted romance novels in this store! Make sure to take 1 (or 3) home :)

A sweet, attractive independent bookstore on a beautiful island, where you might meet a handsome stranger, a dastardly murderer, or even a handsome stranger who turns out to be a dastardly murderer. I spent a few hours on Bainbridge Island during a family trip to Seattle, and we enjoyed a leisurely browse at this bookstore. It was well stocked with books of every genre, as well as a strong selection of gifts and toys. My Seattle friend told me Eagle Harbor had carried my book, at least when it first came out, so I forgave them for no longer having it on the shelves six years later. I was very happy to see my friends Kara Loo and Jennifer Young's novel in the romance section. It's their first book, and I think it's a good sign that the store stocks new releases by debut writers. I really just love a good bookstore, and being in Eagle Harbor Book Company made me happy, even as my children demanded I buy them every colorful thing that entered their field of vision. I'd be a regular if I lived on the island. I could rent a space next door and start solving crimes.
