Dr. Ho is a healer. He absolutely knows what he is doing. This doctor has a Master's Degree in Chinese Medicine from China and does acupuncture, acupressure, massage, and cupping. I've seen him 4 times, 3 times is his own Thousand Oaks office (Ho AcuCare) and once in the Van Nuys location (King's Herbs). The Van Nuys location is not my favorite, I prefer the Thousand Oaks office but the special herbal preparations are not available in the Thousand Oaks office. He also only accepts insurance for acupuncture in the Thousand Oaks office (text him don't call). I've done the acupressure massage (for healing not for pleasure), the acupuncture, and the Chinese medicine/herbal tea for 5 days which is beyond disgusting and tastes like death but works (you can also get this in supplement form at King's Herbs but if I were to take a guess the tea is probably quicker and stronger). He was recommended to me by a Kaiser physician specializing in physical medicine who said he is well known for being one of the best in his field. I thought pain in my hand was the beginning of Carpel Tunnel Syndrome and he said my thumb was sprained and massaged it and...the pain was gone. Gone in about a 2-3 minute massage. Amazing abilities. I know nothings about Chinese Herbs and have been curious about this place for decades. On a date, we visited the place (I thought my date knew but he knew nothing...), I paid a small fee for an herb prescription. The doc was serious and calculating. He offered pills or a tea, with a warning about tea taste. I opted for the tea, which unbenonst to me had 15 ingredients (written in Mandarin, I think). I wasn't sure how many days to ask for (7 - and I was to see benefits...so I got 10) and I didn't realize it, but each ingredient was carefully measured - 10 x. Instructions for preparing the tea was given. It took me about 4 tries to get the right concentrations. What an experience! And at the end of the day, price seemed extremely reasonable for the amount of work put into it. read more

Only been here once but I'm quite pleased to a TCM apothecary in the valley. Upside: i can't even find Angelica acutiloba (东当归) and didn't expect to find it IRL either, let alone find nicely laminated full slices of root. I came in ready to settle for Angelica sinensis (当归) the fact that the recipe I was following called for the former. The Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Chinese liquorice, 甘草) root was cheaper than what I found online and I was very excited to see laminated slices of whole root. You really feel like you're getting your money's worth when you can see the whole product you're buying, a perfect balance of increased surface area for availability and not getting scraps / making sure you're getting what you're expecting. The woman who helped me with my herbs was friendly and helpful. Downside: The instrument they use to weigh product is the definition of old-school. When I got home and weighed the licorice root I purchased on a digital scale, it was about 4 grams or 3.5% short of the 4 oz I purchased; not a huge deal, but a 3.5% margin of error adds up to just over a half ounce missing from a pound! However, once again, the quality of the product is far superior to what I have found online or even prepackaged in the grocery next door, so it's worth the expense in my opinion. read more

This place can be found in the 99 Ranch Center and is a retail store. Normally, when you go to a Traditional Chinese Medicine place, they will have a healer that will check you out, ask you what you want fixed, diagnose you and put together a mix of herbs and roots with instructions on how to prep and use them in order for you to get better. It's the same here. But here, you get a lady that knows how to speak English very well. Thank God. The herbs and roots selections might not be as extensive as some places I've been in though. They also have loose leaf tea for sale by the pound. Yes! Coz I'm having a hell of a time finding a cheap tea shop in the valley. I think I might have to keep going to the Bodhi Tree (expensive and far) or the Spice Station (love them but expensive and out of the way too) or Chinatown (mostly traditional teas but have extensive collection and varieties and only slightly out of the way). I have had a cough, practically all my life...to the poi t where I though coughing was normal. This cough got worse...guttural, with phlegm, along with shortness of breath, pain in the chest and severe fatigue. After a battery of tests via western medicine including an angiogram, heart issues was ruled out and pulmonary was the diagnosis. Before going to the pulmonologist, I decided to try herbs to try to improve my baseline. Dr. Ho tapped my wrist several times as if to take my pulse, three ladies appeared out of. Nowhere and began filling his prescription...15 different t herbs that I promise you smelled and tasted like the dirt they came from. I asked him what they were and he simply said, "chinese herbs. No worry. Make a tea. Drink 5 days, twice a day. Still a problem, return." I could only get through two and a half days worth. GOD AWFUL taste and smell. Be that as it may, not only did the cough with phlegm leave, the lifelong 50 year cough is gone! HE IS THE TRUTH. Nope...still haven't been to the pulmonologist. I've been wanting to try some eastern medicine for some digestive issues I have. I love the more natural approach, essential oils, herbal products, organics. The workers started taking herbs from various drawers, all marked in Chinese. It looked like a bunch of dried twigs, barks, mushrooms, weeds etc, it was so interesting to sit and see them put all of this together. Each batch is specially made for your specific needs. They separate them and bag them up in 5 days worth of tea to be made and taken twice a day (they provide you with written instructions). Everyone speaks good enough English for you to understand and communicate. They were very friendly. The exam itself cost $15.00, the herbs cost $35.00. When I stupidly strained my ankle last year training for a race, my sister immediately said, YOU HAVE TO GO TO DR. HO NOW! So, I went and I just about died from the pain. When u sprain your ankle, most western doctors will says RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) and wait it out. Well...I had a race...and the race is not going to wait for me. Dr. Ho knows. That's it, just trust in the herbs. He's not a particularly chatty guy, and some people might consider that "rude" but he's just about his business. He's not trying to hold your hand and tell stories and that's ok with me! What's important is he knows his chinese medicine, can read and diagnose your symptoms, and won't charge an arm & leg to help you feel better (as western docs do). I had a terrible flu and a cough that would not go away and the herbs he had me take did much better to help me than the cough syrup I was prescribed. I suffered a bad break on my ankle 4 years ago and even after extensive physiotherapy never fully recovered. My ankle always felt weak and I would often walk with a Limp. Almost two weeks ago I was at a point that I could hardly walk and a friend pestered and insisted that i go see Dr. Ho. I drove over there about 20-25 min drive, I arrived on time...and when I told the man that worked there that I was there to see the Iridologist, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "She's not coming in today, she called out." The first time I went here was because i had a bad eczema breakout. Before i found this place, I had tried different over the counter creams, but they did nothing to help- i could not get a good nights rest or concentrate during the day because of how bad my eczema was. I went to Kings for years (I live too far now, but I'll go if I really need to) and it is my first choice in seeking "medicine". The massage for my sciatica and tendonitis would alleviate my pain for twice as long as my physical therapy sessions.
