Does acupuncture work? Yes! I go every week. After a car accident, I went three times a week. I'm back to once a week for self-care. But for a good year, I managed pain WITHOUT needing pain meds thanks to acupuncture and physical therapy. I also passed on having back surgery for herniated discs due to getting rear-ended in traffic. I'm a piano teacher and I also perform as a dancer, Acupuncture and physical therapy helped RESTORE me Me, someone who doesn't like needles just keeps my eyes closed, I don't feel it and I actually relax and get a power nap in. I can go through the seasons and not get sick nor get knocked down by allergies because acupuncture keeps my immune system in good order. Gilian worked with me through my first trimester of pregnancy. She was very knowledgeable, gave me some good resources (like docs or handling morning sickness) and was prompt. I feel like the acupuncture really helped to manage any symptoms like nausea or headaches because it seems that others I know have had a hard time with the first trimester and mine was fairly manageable. The office is very clean and zen. Scheduling appointments was very easy and I always got a reminder text a few days before, which was very convenient. I have been seeing Dr. Lata for over 9 months now, since right before I became pregnant. I truly believe that due to her expertise in fertility, I have enjoyed a comfortable pregnancy. There was one period of time I began feeling cramping, but the acupuncture dramatically reduced it. My due date is in the next couple weeks, and a few weeks ago, my baby was in a breech position. Again, due to her knowledge in this area, she changed the needle position in some areas, and at my subsequent ob gyn appointment, the baby had moved to a head down position! Dr. Lata is consistently pleasant to deal with, shares in your joy, and sincerely takes care of her patients to ensure they are comfortable at each appointment (e.g. offering different sized pillows, heat lamps for cold feet, et al), explains what and why she is doing something, and in addition, gives articles with more detailed information should I wish to read further on certain areas. Her office administrator, Adrianne, consistently sends weekly appointment reminders, and handles all scheduling needs in a very gregarious manner. Overall, I could not have asked for better care during my pregnancy. I have not experienced morning sickness, excessive weight gain or other negative side effects - her work in keeping the body in balance during this time is superb. I never realized you could do acupuncture throughout an entire pregnancy, but I'm glad I have stuck with it and with Dr. Lata this whole time because I see the benefits. She is a keeper! read more

This review is a long time coming! First, I highly recommend Gilian and the acupuncture treatment she provides. I first made an appt with Gilian after she was recommended to me by another acupuncturist for fertility focused acupuncture services. At the time, I was having some irregularies with my cycle and my partner and I had been trying to concieve. My first meeting with Gilian was great--we were able to talk about what I needed and she was able to give me feedback on the course of treatment that she is able to offer. Since my insurance didn't cover acupuncture, I had to pay out of pocket. Despite the regular costs, I saw Gilian consistently (once a week) for about 7 months. I can honestly say, during my numerous appointments with Gilian, never once had we had a problem with scheduling and only once or twice did her receptionist called to reschedule. I was always seen in a timely manner, which is really important to many of us who have busy schedules. Since I was seeing Gilian for a fertility focused treatment, we only worked on that aspect. I followed her instructions at home (taking the fertility tea and tracking my BBT) and we discussed my progress every week before the acupuncture session. Happily, I was able to conceive after several months of treatment. I continued to see Gilian until the end of my first trimester and I'm currently 28 weeks. Dr Kim and the other staff are excellent. She helped me even spending extra time on my first visit because I was in awful pain...I could hardly move. The first treatment helped, I came again a few days later and was even better and then had also added deep massage ( which is "tough" ) but after that it was 50-60% relieved. This review is long overdue. I have been seeing Gillian for over a year. I have been having issues with menstruation and pain for a few years and she has been an integral part in getting me to feel better and regulate my cycle. Acupuncture works better for me than birth control. Since going to Gillian, I spot less; some months not at all. And my cramps and pain are so much more manageable and reduced. Acupuncture undoubtedly works. Beyond that, acupuncture lifts my mood (helps with my anxiety) and even helps with my consistent dry eye; which is an unforeseen but gladly accepted result. I'm very sad to say things didn't go very smoothly. Which is a shame because I had such high hopes...plus they accept my insurance! Yelp reviews were stellar so I thought I'd give it a go... I asked to book with Gillian, the scheduler booked me with another acupuncturist who wasn't listed on the website at the time. Upon rescheduling I was told Gillian would allow 90 minutes for a first visit. Unfortunately what ended up happening, is everything felt rushed. I arrived 5 minutes before scheduled appointment (parking is a nightmare) and quickly filled out paper work. Gillian seemed harried and overwhelmed, after intake and needles, that left only 15 minutes at most. Not really enough time to gauge effectiveness. The next client arrived within the 60 minutes, which is fine but Gillian whisked me out the door. Clients overlapping I'm accustomed to, but it could have been handled better. Also, a service offered by Gillian (via website) is one of the reasons why I booked with her in the first place, isn't even offered. And for those of you with any mobility issues, there is a flight of stairs, so be forewarned. I may go back and try again, hoping to match all those 5 star ratings! read more

Burned out physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually after more than a year of failed fertility treatments, I decided I needed a break and pursued acupuncture with Gilian Lata, LAc. I was skeptical that I would have any more success than I did with Western Medicine, but theorized that acupuncture would at least alleviate some stress and get my body in a better state of overall wellness before I was ready to jump back on the fertility roller coaster. I was in sad shape when I first met Gilian. She initially addressed my frequent headaches and focused on tonifying my Qi. In addition to acupuncture she recommended a specialized herbal formula to take daily. Soon my headaches were rare and I had more energy. Gilian is down to earth and honest about results. She told me not to expect to see any changes or results (regarding fertility) for at least 9 months. Her approach is much more gentle than the aggressive approach of western medicine.
