Since the location is out of the way, the restaurant being open to the public as a regular restaurant didn't work out but now it is open for special events (you can find them on their website or Facebook page), parties or weddings. I miss being able to just go there for dinner, enjoy the view and the beautiful house but understand why they had to change the operation. The food is worth the price, the staff is friendly and they are happy to show off the restaurant and allow you to walk around and check it out.

I don't like that they tore down the detached Carriage House that was also on the property. The House is beautiful and unique with history. I am perennially disappointed with the golf course and I have been to only one function in the House since it was restored. The food was nothing remarkable and the service was even more non-descript. I don't know what they charge for functions there, but I thought that maybe they would have improved the surroundings a bit more to accommodate the status of the Obici House, the surrounding out buildings, clubhouse, 18th hole and driving range. It looks like they did the bare minimum to the house. I don't want to tarnish this review too much since I haven't been there for an official event within the last year. I noticed that they are having an open house soon and I plan to check it out and update my review. I would recommend that if the price seems to high for your event, then pass on Obici House until you start seeing better reviews on the service and food.

We were booked into the inn by a client who wanted to make our first visit to Suffolk a memorable one. The home is a true Southern belle - a grand dame of historic mansions. It has been so lovingly restored and is perfectly appointed. We had so much fun exploring every inch of the home and absorbing its character. The proprietor (and very talented chef) Ruth has mastered the art of hospitality, inviting us to truly make the home our own. She didn't mind one bit that we planted ourselves in the reclining leather chairs in the stately octagonal library with another couple and yakked enthusiastically until the wee hours. After a blissful night sleep, breakfast the following morning was a marvelous affair. We prepped a coffee for ourselves at the Nespresso machine (fantastic!) and meandered around the grounds until the heavenly smell of baking croissants lured us to the elegant, light-filled breakfast room. Usually an eat-and-run proposition for us, we lingered for over an hour enjoying the delectable food and the conversation with the other guests. The charm of the house and its gracious owner had worked its magic - we were refreshed, satiated and inspired. We departed with great reluctance but the spirit of the Truitt house hung about us for the rest of the day and onto the next as we traveled home. You do not want to miss this unique and unforgettable travel experience - 5 gold stars!!!

The mansion, built long ago, has been restored and updated in every category. I've stayed at lots of B&Bs to find them "charming but in need of modern updates." This place has that without losing its original charm from 1909. Because I'm here for work, I'm purposely spending all my time at the house when not on location and I love to be able to move from study to library to the atrium and other rooms in order to read and for a change of atmosphere. Every room is unique and has a story. You'll love Ruth who will make your stay feel like you've come home to the family estate. Breakfast is made to order and she loves knowing what you like. Casual and comfy. Two words to describe the experience in this amazing, palatial mansion.

Tucked away in the historic area of downtown Suffolk, the drive alone sets the mood. You order your food outside and they kindly bring it to your table inside. The rustic decor is very inviting and warm. The hosts and even the patrons were friendly and gave off a very at-home feel. This spot also doubles as a bed and breakfast and I personally can never get enough of those so I'll definitely be booking a stay here one night! Can't wait to bring a group of friends here and just relax and enjoy!

The cottage was very cute and roomy but I don't believe it was as nice as the actual house. There was also a nice view of a garden and fountain from the balcony of our cottage and there was a hammock on the balcony as well. The breakfast was delicious and delivered right to our room. We had wonderful service from the house manager and didn't have any issues at all. There is a photography business located on the premises if you are celebrating a special occasion. When we stayed, there was a bride and groom outside of the house having a photo shoot. They can be booked for weddings and occasionally have events at the house that you can register for.

However, during my 4 night, 5 day stay we experienced very unreasonable Safety Concerns and Overall Quality service in 2 areas. (1). Ther Fire Panel was in Alarm / Trouble condition the entire 5 day stay. (I am very knowledgeable on Fire Panel operations due to my job.). The panel showed a "red" light condition that clearly implicates minimal operational condttion, but I thoght nothing of it as I "assumed" the panel was being worked on upon our arriva. it wasn'! For the next 4 nights the Fire Panel went into "alarm" condition @ 12:37AM!! Yes, just after midnigh... just like clock work. There was no notification to me or my fellow guests about this "on-going" condition. Sleep mknimal, rest minimal! Mgt. feedback -- simply "Sorry." (2) Next, the Disability room shower kept overflowing into the room! Yes, drainage slope and clogged were the reasons. When it was mentioned to Housekeeping... "She stated that" Yes, it does that. Here are some extra towels to block the water into the shower.". Do you think ANYONE came to talk to US or resolve the water everywhere or slip hazard in a "Disability" room?!... NOPE, NADA, ZIP! TOTAL fed up with place. You decide if this place will work for you. Regards,

Let's start with the…read moreGOOD: LOCATION-its one of the few event spaces in south Suffolk, STAFF-they did have lots of servers on hand, BACKGROUND- the visuals are good for pictures if you like the Victorian, Greek, grandmas house sort of look. Now the BAD: PARKING-maybe it's good but we will never know because they had signs out back pointing to additional parking that you couldn't access where the signs were located (personally I think someone just stuck the signs there from previous event and never moved them-my family got a good laugh saying we should've driven a 4x4) and from what I could see only a few true parking spaces near event location. Also be aware it's super hard for large Limos to turn into event building. FLOORS- be super careful because the wood is starting to split in areas and heels could get caught, also a metal handicap front door ramp addition is slick and steep. BACKGROUND-looks a little cluttered & busy (for my taste) the mirrors can make it hard for good pictures but I'm sure professional photographers can work around this. TABLE-COVERS- wrinkled. FOOD-it's kind-of funny but I've never seen broccolini on a veggie tray. (It's super hard to eat such a large piece on a small plate at a party-my opinion) The turkey was strange looking and unappetizing. They had under a heat lamp on a carving table-maybe it was the light but it looked like "canned ham". Finally the bread-it was loaf white bread (like wonder bread) with some strange brown liquid poured across the top-again weird to me and no one cared for it. I know you pick your own menu but it looked like they figured the cheapest way to give you what you asked for. Finally STAFF-More than enough but I think the blue haired lady found some kids to work as staff that had no clue. It's like they watched you and swooped in and grabbed your plate as soon as you placed your fork down. They couldn't answer any questions or directions. The blue haired lady was rude to them also. So overall- if you need a space this will do but be aware that quality has definitely changed.
