Really has some character and yet i fear it will succumb to yet another relic of our times. It seems that this place is lacking customers as is the other pubs around the area. If your passing pop in and support our heritage as the beer is not half bad!

Loved my room with its superbly firm bed, massive walk-in shower and lots of creature comforts…read more Would have preferred a room not directly above the street but honestly it wasn't a big deal (Amersham's a pretty sleepy place on a Saturday morning - not a lot of traffic related bustle outside). Brekkie was good and ample. Maybe if I would have had to pay for it separately, I wouldn't have been as happy with it, but as it was part of my b-n-b package I was pleased. However, I would be remiss if I failed to mention the spaced out and incredibly nonchalant attitude of one of the breakfast servers. "Yeah man" probably isn't the best way to answer the question of "May I have some more coffee". For the most part this 'dude' was more amusing than anything but he didn't have any clue how to do his job and seemed to just stand around with a dazed look on his face (I kinda think he might have been stoned). Personally, I didn't care all that much but I could see how older clientele (whom I think make up the majority of guests here) might have been incredibly irked. Dopey waiter aside, I'd stay at the Crown again. I found Amersham a pleasant village within easy reach of London (it's even on the Metropolitan Line!). Staff were friendly, the inn had a quaint feel to it and as I mentioned at the start of this review, I really liked the room.

We spent a weekend afternoon late lunch here after a long hike in the countryside. It was a very…read morecold day and the Inn was welcoming. The decor was a combination of modern touches (minimalist furniture) mixed with the very old: wooden beams and floors, low ceilings, pewter bread plates. The food was very good, my only complaint is that portions were extremely small. After walking for nearly 3.5 hours, my friends and I were extremely hungry, and the portions just did not satisfy. Perhaps the portions are larger at dinner. Also, the staff seemed a bit uninterested and service was a bit slow. The menu wasn't large, but had enough choices. My pork loin was perfect, tender and moist. My friend had Venison three ways which was lovely as well. The appetizers of beetroot and blue cheese salad, while excellent, as I said, were on the small side. Everyone enjoyed their desserts of rhubarb crumble, sticky toffee pudding and lemon posset. The boys also enjoyed some rather nice real ale (can't recall the name, but then again the waiter didn't know it either) and I had some good Australian Shiraz. The place being very old, the dining room was rather drafty. They lit the fireplaces just as we were leaving. Although the food was good, I think it was a bit overpriced for the portion sizes. I would recommend going here for a few drinks in a beautiful setting. And possibly for a bite to eat, but don't expect a pub lunch, it's not very hearty.

Wow. This is top tier. Absolutely stunning grounds and building…read more It has breathtaking views of the Chess Valley with really nice nature/hiking trails. The fitness center includes a gym, pool, sauna and steam room. They offer memberships and swimming lessons. They have blow dryers in the changing room. I came here for a cream tea, but after seeing this place I am definitely planning a three day get-away. They have a restaurant, an elegant bar that offers a light menu in the afternoons and the Library where you can enjoy drinks and afternoon tea. The only thing that looked like it needed some refurbishment is the women's shower/changing room (bring shower shoes!). The staff we interacted with where friendly, but many of them were new so the service was a bit subpar; however I imagine they'll get the hang of their job soon enough :)

This is a lovely hotel, in beautifully manicured grounds with a great separate building bar &…read morefunction room for private events (such as the training course we were on). What did I not like... £7.50 for a glass of wine, no hallway between the reception area & the bedrooms so anyone being loud late at night, or opening doors early in the morning would have everyone awake. The gym was an absolute joke. Some cardio equipment, 1kg to 8kg dumbells & then 18kg dumbells & essentially nothing else. But there were lovely running trails outside. Perhaps a lovely place for a romantic break away for a couple, not a great place for any other reason... Also, I found an earwig in my towels on my last day there... Gross.

If I start with a 5 star review, and take a point out for every fault, I'd be in the negatives…read more 1. Food was quite questionable in terms of quality, -1 2. At 27C day, all the heaters in the place are on, bizzar, -1 3. Staffs weren't exactly friendly towards ppl with kids. On one occasion, I just got my baby to sleep and a bunch of staff in black shirt walked by chatting super loudly (although they saw me with my sleeping baby), and woke him up, -1 4. We called to ask for the room to "not" be serviced, yet someone still came in despite being assured it won't be touched (we didn't get our chance to put away all the baby stuff that needed kept clean), -1 5. At one of the bars at the back of a lower ground conference room, I saw a cup of coke with at least 2cm of coke evaporated with mould covering the top, seriously how bad was that! -1 (to be honest that deserved to be -10 even) 6. We have a baby, with lot of luggage. Rather than helping us, staffs just pointed us to a different set of stars. So I had to move pram up stairs myself. Luckily a friend came and helped. -1 7. We were given a room next to a wedding. It blasted music through our room, our baby kept getting woken up! -1, (tho in my mind that's -1000) 8. The music apparently won't stop till 12am...!?! -1 (tho again that should be -1000) 9. Hair dryer in room broken. -1 10. Shower temperature knob broken, stuck at one temperature (yet weirdly temperature still changes at random every time I shower). -1 11. Bed sheet had stain. -1 12. Kids meal wasn't ready at the promised time. Caused some panic. -1 13. Kettle completely lined with lime scale. -1 14. Carpets are dirty. (I know cause my phone landed on some suspicious patch) -1 15. Toilet seat is the old school plastic cheap seats. -1 Tho to be fair: - great car park with lot of spots. +1 - lovely lawn and very well maintained grass area. +1 - a few of the staffs were friendly +0.5 (at this day and age, focus on customer centricity) - we called to ask for toilet paper and more soap, it came within the minute. +1 (by now expectations are low) - my room came with a decently power fan, which was super good on an extreme hot day. +1 Conclusion, the pros cannot Out weight the cons, not even close. While some might say I'm bias because my baby was affected, true and so I should be angry - but, in my humble opinion, with a hint of objectivity, there are still better places for your money.
