I will pay whatever and do whatever I need to for my children, but almost a 2800.00 difference blows my mind, esp when my daughter was treated at the other orthodontist immediately, returned to school and was no longer in any pain. The staff and specialists were warm and wonderful, and made my daughter feel comfortable, I think she even had fun :) The prices and unecessary recommended treatments is why we won't be back.

This office knew my child would need braces in the very near future, and that was why we went with this location, and now they're leaving him out with no care; even after becoming an established patient.

The whole team is welcoming and friendly! When you walk into the lobby, you can tell that they have pulled out all the stops to make this place a kid's fantasy. Lot's of toys, fun things to interact with, lots of fun decor and a theme that changes! You can tell that they want the kids to feel at ease and comfortable there. The have always been straightforward about my son's care. He had a rough first couple visits because of his nerves, so they made sure they could do as much as they were able to with not stressing him out too much or pushing him too much. The third time they suggested that he go back alone, and it worked SO much better than if I were to go back there with him. They made him comfortable and were able to do a complete cleaning and xrays. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a topnotch pediatric dentist.

They claimed to be experienced working with kids with special needs and understood, however that was far from our experience. The front desk person struggled with our insurance information. The hygienist was annoyed whenever the boys wanted to touch her tools while she was showing them everything and kept rushing them through the introduction. One of my kids was willing to attempt X-rays and despite intense crying, the hygienist kept on trying to get more X-rays and I had to demand that she stop. When my son with Autism was up, they refused to accommodate his anxiety by allowing him to sit on our lap or even just stand, and gave no alternatives to the traditional cleaning and polishing despite his intense anxiety. He became so incredibly upset and anxious they could barely even get him to open his mouth. This also occurred with the Dentist coming in. Needless to say we tried a new location and the experience was VASTLY different, and far more accommodating and presented multiple options for the cleaning process.

The moment we walked in, the office looked and smelled like calm. Everyone is so welcoming and every staff member helped us navigate the transition. Getting insurance put in was a little hassle, but they were patient through every step. Despite being a premier dentist in my insurance network, their fees are more than reasonable. I don't feel anxious that there are going to be surprises every time I go in. I've never seen my kids so chill about dentist appointments. We are absolutely dog people, so their therapy dog(s) that often greet us in the waiting room for pets is a wonderful addition. My 11-year-old had such anxiety about dental visits that I couldn't tell him until the day of or he would dwell to the point of getting nothing else done leading up to it - but last visit he came out telling me it "wasn't so bad." That's quite the compliment coming from him. My 10 year old daughter saw the same hygienist/tech two times in a row. It made her feel really valued to see her wearing the pin she "gifted" her the appointment before on her name tag. Just when I think I dentist office can't have anything more to offer - they step it up. It's clear that a lot of thought and consideration went into building this office in a way that would best support it's patients. When my 4 year-old daughter needed extensive dental work, we decided to go with Dr. Payne because…read morehe was the only pediatric dentist in Michigan that we could find that did acrylic (white) crowns. We had previously been seen by 2 dentist offices and were told that she needed at least 2 crowns. My daughter has an anxiety condition called Selective Mutism and due to this and the amount of work she needed done, we agreed that it would be best to have her dental work done by under anesthesia at the hospital by Dr. Payne. When her procedure was completed, Dr. Payne told us that he did not use the acrylic crowns. Instead he placed nerve blocks and fillings in those 2 teeth. We were surprised but trusted his judgment. When we returned home and looked at her teeth, there was still noticeable brown decay around the fillings in those teeth. Not being a dentist, I thought maybe this was normal for baby teeth. Several months later, we scheduled a progress exam because the decay was progressing and she was getting food caught in it that we couldn't get out. My husband took her to this appointment and was told that there were no soft spots and things looked fine. We were asked to return for annual teeth cleaning. At her annual teeth cleaning, x-rays were taken and by this time the decay was very, visually noticeable. We were told that we would have to repeat the anesthesia procedure with stainless steel crowns. We agreed, her teeth needed to get fixed, but it still nagged me that crowns were not put on originally. These procedures cost thousands of dollars. We scheduled the next hospital procedure as soon as we could. Because of our questioning of the original procedure and wanting to make sure we were clear of what was going to happen on the second procedure, as we do not want to repeat this again next year, I called Dr. Payne's office and expressed my concerns. I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Payne for the following day for a discussion. The following morning, his receptionist called me. She said that she told Dr. Payne about my concerns and it was clear to him that we did not have trust in his work and that we should seek dental care elsewhere. I was then asked if I wanted to cancel my daughter's hospital procedure. Looking back on our situation, I feel we did not receive good care at Dr. Payne's office. I do not know why the work was not done as originally planned. I had full trust in him to take care of my 2 children and to be accountable for his work. If I hadn't, I would have gone elsewhere in the past year. I have switched back to our original local pediatric dentist and am quite happy, but have regrets about letting her teeth get so bad under the care of Dr. Payne before seeking care elsewhere.
