Some time you accidently come across a place that you always wanted to visit, & that's what happened with me .Me and few friends stopped in Portlaiose on our way from cork. We went to hotel and asked the receptionist for a place to eat, she recommended two places to eat one was middle of the road so we walked out because we were really hungry. The first recommended place was an Indian restaurant so we decided to go there. The minute we walk into this place it was a kind of ''wow'' reception was very warm just felt like a king and within a minute we got something on our table to eat some crisp with some type of pickle and a sauce within 2 minutes we asked for more, got our drinks, ordered our meal. Starter came in 8 minutes mix sizzler with 6 to 7 different types of meat as well as veg really loved that. Then main course arrived ''chicken tikka masala''was the best I have ever tasted in my life time, but didn't get the recipe from the waiter. Everything on our main course was unbelievably tasty. We took our time finishing our meal got desserts they were just ok. We sat longer for beautiful cup of coffee after finishing our surprisingly marvellous meal. We had to go through every detail of this restaurant. We all were amazed of the taste of this establishment walls telling something. Decor was simple but not that simple something was written on the walls which we didn't understand so we asked the waiter but he said that he was new person in there so we got no answer. Music was so impressive and subtle, no one gave us detail of what kind of music that was but we asked if we could get the cd, waiter took our address and we got it in the post in 6 days
We were to stop in portlaoise for one hour but we spend nearly 4 hrs. We ask three times for coffee but they charged us for once. The value for the place was unbelievable. We paid 131 euros for 4 of us for starter, main course, desserts and 4 rounds of coffee. I doubt it that anywhere in Dublin to Cork if there is place which serves a top class food and service in a paradise atmosphere does exist around Ireland that's why we saw so many medals and awards hanging on the walls of the reception area... Since then we have been to this place nearly once a month from Dublin to get into a mood of kingfisher. This Christmas we are hiring a bus to do a party in kingfisher restaurant... read more
