Do your due diligence!!!! Save yourself a lot of time, stress, & money & read reviews on multiple sites (not just on Google bc you can pay to have the bad reviews removed) to see people's experience with Billy/Kingfish pools. Go to multiple pool stores & ask people about Kingfish, they have a reputation in the industry & I often heard after having so many issues with Billy that other people in the industry can't believe he was still in business bc of all the nightmare stories they would hear from customers. I WISH I had read his reviews before I committed to Kingfish but I am here now to warn people so that don't make the same mistake. During the build, there were multiple issues where I had to pay more for this or that & ultimately my pool ended up costing me $15,000 more than the original quote. I also surprisingly had $5,000 worth of electrical issues right after the pool was complete, hmmm. Billy's plumbers installed the pool drainage into my sewer line, not just to drain there but pushed the pool drainage pipe through my sewer line, completely blocking it right down the middle. I had multiple sewerage back ups over the next 6 months bc of this. I paid multiple plumbers to come out to flush the pipe clear. I troubleshot the issue with draino, special plungers, & snakes wanting to pull my hair out until I realized the issues started after the pool was installed. I called another plumber to come out & he suggested he use the camera to see what was going on. The camera saw a pipe going right through my sewer pipe BLOCKING IT, I did not figure this out until 6 months after the pool was completed. I notified Billy & he never even offered to pay my cost for the multiple plumbers that came out or the troubleshooting I did over the 6 months, I had to ask him to do the right thing. His crooked plumbers came out to bust up my brand new patio to fix it & I had to chase Billy for weeks to reimburse me. Another issue, my pool immediately had splotches in the plaster, like as soon as it filled. I asked Billy about this multiple times over the next 6 months & he just said it's curing & will be fine. After becoming upset that my new $85,000 pool looked dirty things got very tense with Billy. He claimed the warranty on my plaster was only if the plaster was falling apart he offered no advice or assistance to help me with this issue or even bothered to come out & look at what was happening. After speaking with people at a pool store, this could have been solved very easily if he had told me to go buy a stain test kit to figure out what was going on 6 months ago before the pool got worse & is now covered in splotches. I asked Billy why he didn't simply mention this to me & he said it was for me to figure out & that after the pool is built he "breaks up" with his clients bc he is too busy with new projects to be bothered by past clients texting & calling him. Buyer beware, installing a pool is too big & expensive of a project to get stuck with someone like Billy. Now bc the business relationship has become so bad I have no service & no warranty of any kind bc he stops responding completely even when you threaten to sue him. Kingfish has lawyers on hand bc they have to deal with so many clients issues. Go somewhere else, anywhere else is better than Kingfish. read more

I reached out to Kingfish pools to start a maintenance service but also to get my pool re-plastered. Although the re-plastering was sub'd out to another company, Kingfish coordinated it for me and the work was excellent. The pool is gorgeous. Their pool maintenance service after that, however, was not on par with what I expected. The service started 4 days after the re-plastering, on the 18th of the month, but my first bill came in quite a bit higher than expected. I questioned the amount and got a expected reply but then commented again, but did not get a response. I wrote them a second time, but again, no reply, but I was billed. I have an issue getting a bill that appeared to be for a full months service plus chemicals, when they started on the 18th. I wrote them one more time complaining about this and never got a reply. So, 28 days from when the pool plastering was started, I terminated their maintenance service and am moving to someone else. Their communication, whether it be email or text, leaves a lot to be desired, but this is my opinion, which I need to say, and may not be yours! read more

Had a pool built by Kingfish nearly four years ago and serviced by Kingfish since. I recommended to a few friends back then. Sadly, I can no longer recommend. Employees are lazy, don't bother calling to schedule or reschedule, etc. They didn't clean my pool AT ALL for a month until I complained, even then just sent someone else to do a poor job. Still charged me, chemicals and all, and never made it right. I finally let Kingfish go recently after I complained about my salt cell blinking for three weeks straight. When I called to complain the owner came to my house and told me how to fix my pool, all the stains etc his employees I've paid to care for the pool caused, and then left fully understanding his failure to even offer to make it right is why he lost a customer. I almost forgot, when I complained he just said, "it's hard to find good help"... In short, they did an acceptable job building four years ago but DO NOT hire them to service your pool, you're better off doing it yourself and saving the wasted money. Ten days after firing Kingfish, with the help of Ducky's testing, my pool looks and feels amazing. **Edit - I had to come back and lower to one star as Kingfish still charged me FULL PRICE for their lack of service. This is how KingFish takes care of there customers and pools. They have not even tried to clean it in months and now we have leaks and all they do is show up dump some chlorine in and leaves.... Worst maintenance in the business. The pool hasn't been vacuumed one time since they were hired for maintenance trash in pool and skimmers dead leaves decaying at the bottom of pool for months now. If anyone can recommend a company that is good and can take better care of this pool please let us know. We are paying over 2,000 a month to have a pool maintenance and this is what it looks like. Hired this company to repair a leak in our saltwater pool filter. Their employee diagnosed the leak to be due to a faulty filter lid and was here for a total of 2 hours (including a trip to the pool supply store). We were so excited that this repair would save us the cost of a new filter, that we even tipped him $100.00. We then received the bill later that evening. We were surprised at how high it was ($350 for 2 hours of labor, plus $110 cost of lid = $460.00 total). But, blamed ourselves for not asking in advance what their labor charges were, so we paid it. Lesson learned. Two days later, the leak returned. Turns out the lid was fine, and the leak was not a result of a faulty lid. The only solution provided to us would be replacement of the saltwater filter $2800.00). Given we can't afford to replace the whole filter at this time, we asked for even a partial refund on the $460.00 charge that did not fix the leak. We were told no. Company will not refund us any of this cost. So, beware that this company charges $160/hour for repairs, and none of the cost of labor or materials is refundable even if the repair does not work. :( read more

It's only a pool... why does it have to be so bad? After moving into new house we hired them to service our pool. Our motor started having problems that we paid for them to fix. After paying $3k of chasing the problem, nothing changed. The fees and quality of service diminished quickly. After terminating the contract, their cleaner still came back to the house. It was only after threatening to contact the authorities did they stop coming. Now months after terminating our contract they persist in their harassment sending estimates for service we did not order. We solved the problem on our own. It would have cost $0 to fix. I would have never thought of them again had they not continued to harass us. I'm an idiot for trusting the company. There just has to be something better out there. Hired Kingfish with a perfectly beautiful pool. About a month into their servicing the pool, I left town for 6 weeks. Came back to the plaster appearing etched and stained all over. Before I discovered what was actually happening, I asked Cameron (Kingfish's pool guy) to investigate what was causing the sudden staining of the plaster. He got back to me with a message from Billy, the owner, stating the plaster was old and the pool needed to be replastered. He could provide a quote for me if I'd like. Turns out Cameron had been adding 1 entire gallon (16 cups) of muriatic acid to our 14,000 gallon pool (with pH 7.9 to 8.0) every 1-2 weeks for 12 weeks. On one occasion, he added 2 gallons! According to pool chemistry tables, the pool should have received 2-3 cups of acid. Not 16-32 cups which is what Kingfish added. After consulting with several pool professionals around town, they're shocked that this amount of acid was added to a pool of this size at one time. I had Billy out to the house to discuss. He confirmed that an entire gallon of acid was, in fact, added to the pool each occasion and agreed that it was too much. He offered to acid wash the pool (yep, that's right ... more acid) but really what he and other professionals recommend is the pool needs new plaster. When I asked Billy for a replaster, he called me a piece of s&^t. Those are the facts. The only opinion is that my pool was perfect when Kingfish started. Their employee ripped my best friend's liner while vacuuming, left my pool draining, and then the owner of the company tried to blame her for the rip. Her backyard is flooded as well as her neighbor's and the pool is nearly half drained. The owner came out and assured her that he would fix the problem by replacing the liner - if she agreed to remove negative Yelp, Google, and Facebook reviews. She complied... He LIED. I wasn't expecting the job to be as involved as it turned out to be so I started getting nervous with all the digging and the pulling up of all my landscaping bricks. They took the time to explain to me what they were doing thus calming me down. They ended up putting everything back together, cleaned up all their mess, and provided me with a hot tub attached to my pool with a beautiful cave waterfall. It's the perfect compliment to the backyard and pool. They may be a little more pricey than others, but the extra cost was well worth it to have professionals instead of the Home Depot pot luck crew working on my project. read more

Billy at Kingfish pools was extremely helpful to me in a stressful situation. I was getting a new hot tub and had to get the old one out and I have a small yard in the Marigny with a very narrow path on both sides of the house. Billy and his crew were able to cut out a part of the fence and get the old (extremely heavy and large) hot tub out and put the new one in, at a VERY reasonable price. They put the fence right back up afterwards and you can't even tell it has been cut. I would highly recommend Kingfish! They are the BEST! read more

Eddie, Omar, and Billy are all well versed in pool rehab and chemicals. They are a professional group of guys who have been good to work with although sometimes they are stretched a little thin, probably only because they are so popular and have hundreds of clients all over the city. Their prices are a bit higher than other companies but I believe you are paying for a higher level of knowledge and care. As with most things, you get what you pay for.
