Horrible King transmission rebuild the transmission in my in September of 23 in September of 2025 my truck began to have issues which I thought were related to the transmission I took it back to him and they told me the transmission they rebuilt going out again with only 60,000 miles on it after spending an additional $3,500 with them my truck was doing the same thing upon taking it to an honest shop they told me that from one there's no way a company should not stand behind their work in a transmission should not go out at 60,000 miles most importantly my truck had the same issue it turns out the problem was the transfer case not the transmission so effectively came transmission charged me $3,500 to do absolutely nothing to my truck I have the exact same issue when I left​ read more

I took my 2019 Caravan to King when the transmission went out. I was not disappointed with their work, they finished the work when they said they would, they were kind and helpful. Any more issues with any vehicles I will be going to King. Years ago, I had a 2008 Saturn, we had it towed to King thinking it was the trans, but it turned out it was a loose wire in the gear shift. They taped it up and did not charge me... they could have taken me for a new trans, that's why as soon as I had a problem with the van I went right to King! read more

Went in last December with my Lincoln MKX with a vibration during the 2nd and 3rd shift. Someone there took it for a test drive and said I needed a complete rebuild for $3400. Didn't put it on a lift to check for any signs of leakage or mount wear. I decided to put up with it until last week when I went to a AAMCO shop in Lisle. They identified the problem as the rear driveshaft bushings were worn out. Got the new part and labor to replace it was $450. I would never go to King transmission. read more

Good shop they rebuilt the transmission in my 2005 cadillac srx, I am very happy with the work they did and the price was much lower than other estimates, don't roll the dice just take your vehicle to these guys they don't mess around, very professional and friendly. read more

The staff at King are, IMHO, the best service technicians I have ever encountered. For example: my Grand Caravan suffered a transmission failure, ins co towed to a Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler dealership on Irving Park, on Monday no response, Tuesday took time off to visit, service said at least 3 days for an estimate, day 3 I had to call, a service writer who gave my estimate said $10k, the following day searched and found King Transmission in Elmhurst and Chicago, they told me they would pick up my van from the dealer, take it to Chicago location and fix. BTW, the charge was a third of the dealer quote. Here's the kicker; King Chicago towed van, repaired transmission in less than 1 day, and brought the van to Elmhurst where I drove it away fully repaired in less than a day. So I bought a Ford .... I know shame on me ! We'll par to Fords performance the trans went out . Took my car to king in elmhurst . And I gotta tell ya I'm impressed. I'm no soft foot driver . And have spent the money on this rebuild I figured let's test it out . And I've been testing , and testing , so far it's performed up to my expectations ! And like I said I beat on it. I brought it back in thinking a basic rebuilt transmission would be around $1600, but the manager said that they stand by there work and extended the warranty, and they covered the whole thing, it cost me ZERO! King Transmission Company is not what it used to be. I brought my vehicle to them the evening of 1/15/24 for diagnosing. The problems were hard shift from 1st to 2nd, a very loud groaning sound in 4x4 that would quiet down in 2wd but not completely. On Tuesday 1/16 I was told that the drum on the transmission was going out and the front differential had problems. To resolve this, king recommended a transmission rebuild and possibly a new front differential depending on the condition once they got it apart. On Friday 1/19/24 I picked the vehicle up. Immediately driving out of the lot I noticed the hard shift was not remedied. This was the first red flag. On the drive home I quickly noticed that nothing had been resolved. The 4x4 still had the horrible sound coming from the front end of the car, and 2wd was still emitting noise as well. I called King back to inform them of my problems. They reluctantly told me to bring the car back in on Monday 1/22, said they would check it over "even though they knew nothing was wrong". Monday comes and I went on a test drive with a mechanic. He said that it sounded similar to his truck, and that everything was normal. They still would look it over and I could pick up later in the day. I finally received a call at 6am on Thursday 1/25 that my car had been fixed and that I could pick it up. I was told "something" was wrong in the differential THEY had replaced, but that they took care of it. This is not true. The vehicle is still displaying all the problems I initially brought it in for. I tried to give king many chances, but it seems all they did was take $3500 from me without any resolution to the problems with my vehicle. read more

I was referred to King Transmission by my GREAT auto repair shop in Chicago, AA Auto, who made a call to them for me. Didn't need to make a reservation and they told me just to drive over whenever, which I did when the highway traffic died down. Checked out the car right away by a computer code checking device and gave a reasonable factual assessment of what to do next. No upselling or any other stuff. Didn't even charge me. Tried to pay, as I told them I always pay as I go, but they wouldn't take it. Competent, reasonable and honest-what more can you ask for. If you have an older car out of warranty, or even a newer one, with a possible transmission problem-which does happen to many these days-this is the place. read more

Remember you get what you pay for?? if you want cheap work that will continue to have problems and them continue to tell you it needs different parts after you just replaced transmission is crazy. they will nickel and dime you to death. After having trans replaced within a week it start having a hard jerk from 1st to 2nd so I returnEd numer times what told it was a compute?? The car never had this issue before but now it's bad? after getting codes and another transmission shop sating issue was inside transmission (another 800) they refuse to believe it a continue to say it's the computer. Remember 1 day turnaround and cheapest price in town you'll have nothing but issue. spend the extra 1000) for a professional and stay away from these clowns. Then after replacing speed turbines inside trans issue stopped but they said it was a computer. Half the good reviews are fake. I'll be taking them to small claims court for cost of repairs from other shop so if you don't want the headaches please do yourself a favor and stay away from these scams. Remember even after transmission was scanned with codes of speed turbines inside trans they refused to believe it and said it was a computer wiring issue. My transmission went out with out warning here in chicago. I originally had it towed to another shop (Logan square automotive). I drove with the tow truck driver and my car to the first shop and the tow driver recommended kings transmission. The first shop gave me an estimate of $2,500.00 for a used transmission with 90,000 miles on it. That seemed like a pretty high price to replace my transmission and I was a little uncomfortable with having a used transmission installed. I remembered the tow trucks guys recommendation and decided to give kings transmission a call for another estimate and opinion. I spoke with frank on the phone. He seemed very knowledgable and I trusted that he knew what he was doing. He told me to rebuild my transmission would cost $1,595.00 - roughly $1,000.00 less than the other place and he explained to me why rebuilding the transmission I had was the smartest choice. When he began the repairs, he noticed I had two broken parts in my car that needed to be replaced additionally. He called me and let me know he would repair the other issues without charging me extra for labor (I would just have to buy the part) for the issues because he was able to get to the repair with my car already being taken apart. The repair took about 4 days and now my car runs perfect. I'm really happy I was referred to kings transmission and I highly recommend them! read more

After taking my car for an oil change I was informed of a transmission leak... I went to Kings after the news for a free diagnostic test, I waited maybe 10 min before they could look at my car. I was quickly informed of the issue and was quoted a price and set up with an appointment. I took my car back a few days later as planned. I took it at 7 just as they opened. I was unsure how long it would take because the mechanic, Rich, told me he'd work on it between jobs the last time I was there. I went home and they called me about an hour later that my car was all set and good to go. It was faster than I expected and not too much damage on my wallet. My trusted local repair shop recommended King Transmission when my 2004 Honda CR-V's transmission went out. They said they wish there were a closer transmission shop they could recommend, but insisted King was the best (especially when it comes to automatic transmissions). Our car is in good shape and has relatively low mileage, and we expect to get another two years out of it; we viewed the $2,300 we spent as a good investment. The repair came with a six-month/6K mi. warranty. We can bring it in at that six-month/6K mark and pay $85 to have it inspected and they'll extend it another six-months/6K. Anyway, it's only been a month, but it's been running fine. read more

I'm sure the actual mechanics are amazing men that do great work. But never speak on the phone with Frank. I had my car towed to this establishment after being told they were honest and did great work. I was given an estimate before my car got to the shop. Once my car arrived I was called by FRANK and was told "good news you don't need a new transmission you only need a mount, it's $80 and I won't even charge you labor" I was so excited about the good news I asked them to do more wrk on my car. I had them do a break job and change my oil. But when I arrived and was told that I had been given a new transmission and it cost me $2800 I was speechless. I've never in my life ever been in a situation like this. And of course Frank wasn't in the building when I picked up my car. I was also told that since the work had already been done I couldn't have my car until I paid. Again this review has nothing to do with the hardworking mechanics. This is about extremely poor communication. I don't understand how on Friday I can get a call from Frank telling me "good news" and telling me $80 but then Monday my bill is $2800. Never in my life had this happened and I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. So never talk to FRANK. And please triple check what they tell you. I really don't know how they stay in business if this is the type of trickery they do. Thank god I had access to that kind of money during this coronavirus. This shop is TRASH... went to them once before about my transmission shifting hard and popping out of gear. they test drop it and kept it over night and test drove it again in the morning. They could not replicate the issue. When I drove off their lot it did everything I told them it would do. Take it there again and they tell me it was just a torn boot that was causing the issue. Drive it again and the issue happens YET again. Take your vehicle somewhere else. I use to be a mechanic in the military but they seem to ignore every word I said like it wasn't valid like I was bossing them around last time I checked I paid THEIR bills not the other way around. I want my money back and the work fixed for free at their expense. read more

I was driving from Minnesota back home to New Jersey--minivan loaded with my son's stuff, he'd just graduated from college. On a Sunday evening, near the Wisconsin border a noise started in the front, got worse as we headed toward Chicago. I was afraid it was a wheel bearing, or axle. Made it to Elmhurst. Took it to King Monday morning. Turned out the lug nuts on the front tires had loosened up. They fixed it with no charge. Thanks, guys! read more

We brought a transmission in to be rebuilt and when we got it back we were missing the torque converter and a couple fittings to close of the oil cooler lines. We called and had to go back to pick up the torque converter. They gave us a couple rubber caps instead of the steal fittings we had on the transmission since one of there mechanics decided to steal our fittings. When we confronted them about it they claimed they were never on there. Since they were not on there when we got the transmission back, dirt from the bed of the truck was pushed up into the fittings. Hopefully this won't cause an issue. Bottom line after paying $1600 to have a transmission rebuilt you would think a company would make sure the ports were sealed to keep contaminates out of the system. Furthermore losing repeat business isn't worth letting your employees steal parts that are only worth a few dollars. read more

Asked for a price one day and 2 days later the price goes up, then he denies that was the price he was quoted. I think Frank needs additional training in his department so that people don't get ripped off. This rating gets 0 stars in my mind. read more
