This place is quite organized and has a lot of fabrics in colours I couldn't find at other stores. The store is separated by 2 floors. Walk up the stairs for fabrics and down the stairs for more affordable fabrics/drape fabrics and little things like zippers. The staff on upper floor is nice and friendly for the most part EXCEPT for this one older African American woman? I felt she kept pressuring me to buy or hurry up. Even though the store wasn't that busy. She was always asking "Are you ready yet? Are you done yet?" with a bored expression. Very off putting and made me want to avoid her. I was buying fabric to make a top and being very much a novice was hesitant about how much I would need. I just wanted to double check my numbers so asked her what she thought and she just abruptly handed me a tape measure saying, "check for yourself". Meanwhile, in contrast a customer next to me was talking with a younger employee (girl with blonde hair) and asked her a simple question about yard measurements, which she happily and kindly explained. Overall, I would come back as I like the fabric selection they have. I would just avoid that woman. read more

I've been in here twice now, and I don't think I'll eve bother returning. Wasn't amazed with the fabric selection (lots of cotton, and a good leather/suede selection, but most of the patterns are dated and a poor selection of thick-woven fabrics), but the trims section was nice. The people are the worst though. I hate eager, pushy salespeople, but these are the opposite: they're miserable, unapproachable, and rude. We popped downstairs after being told to check there by a man upstairs (I assume he was unable to come down and point it out to us), and downstairs was this absolutely miserable woman: no eye contact, didn't respond to questions, and just huffed until we left. read more

I've been coming to this store off and on for the past 2 years. Every trip has been drastically hit or miss. Sometimes the staff will be wonderfully nice and help you find the fabric and notions you're looking for quickly and efficiently. Sometimes they will be breathing down your neck if you say that you're "just browsing" asking if you've made up your mind yet. Sometimes they'll just completely disappear. And sometimes they'll be rude and snarky just because you happened to request X number of meters when they only cut in yards. It's easy enough to just say "we measure in yards, would you like the equivalent?" instead of giving attitude. Basically I only ever go back to this store when I need something very specific but otherwise I avoid it because nobody needs extra stress in their lives just trying to buy fabric. read more

Looking to work with fabric for the first time, I visited about six different textile/fabric stores along Queen St W. When I visited the upper floor of this store, the staff were quite welcoming and happy to help me find the fabric I was looking for. All of this despite having their credit card machine stolen on the very same morning! They have a good selection of fabrics compared to other stores. I just started sewing as a new hobby and have been in and out frequently recently to pick up odds and ends. the place is convenient because it's close to my work and they have a lot of stuff. the staff upstairs are friendly and the one lady was very helpful. as to why my review is 2 stars: when I went in today to pick up an item downstairs I got told in a raised voice by the lady who works down there to put it in a basket. I started saying "oh so-" and she interrupted me with "put. the zipper. in. a. basket. to. take .up. stairs!" I am not sure if she thought I was going to steal a 2 dollar zipper or something. i looked at other reviews and am not surprised this person has gotten complaints before. I did not go there to get yelled at all I wanted was a zipper. ive worked with clients that were difficult or rude and even people who insulted me and i never lost my cool and yelled, and i've done none of those things here!there are dozens of other fabric stores within a 5 minute walk where people have been nothing but polite and I will be taking my business elsewhere. the extra star is for the help I received upstairs otherwise it would be just one. read more

I was really bummed that there were no sewing supply stores in my neighbourhood, so I went to facebook for suggestions and everyone pointed me here, and I'm so happy about it! King Textiles was the best, and will probably be the only sewing place I will hit up from now on. There is a maze of fabrics stacked to the ceiling. You could literally spend hours in there feeling stuff and looking at colours. It was so overwhelming and awesome. SO MANY FABRICS. Don't even get me started on the faux fur section... unreal. Plus they have a place the size of my living room filled with buttons and ribbons and zippers... I was in heaven. I was approached twice, by two different people, who were super friendly. When I said I was just browsing for now, they introduced themselves and said to call for them if I needed anything. They were super genuine and nice. When I was done exploring (for now! I didn't even get to see it all, so big!) I approached one of the staff upstairs and got some batting and some sewing tools. All the prices seemed very good. The dudes at the checkout even offered me cookies they were eating! Everyone was joking around with each other and it was just such a pleasant atmosphere. When I left I had already made it to Queen St. when I realized I had forgotten something I bought on the counter, and I turned around to go back and the cashier guy was running up to me with it apologizing. As a designer, I try to buy fabric in every country to which I travel, and King Textiles was one of the greatest fabric stores to which I've ever been. I'm originally from New York, so I've been spoiled by fabric stores in Manhattan. King, however, is definitely comparable! The service was friendly and the employees were incredibly helpful. Maze-like, yes, but most fabric stores are. The more maze-like, the better the options! If you're looking for fabric for any type of project, this is the place to go! I always see signs for King Textiles and the advertising in this neighbourhood is quite intense. Being an avid quilter I decided to finally follow the flyer to 445 Richmond Street West and check it out. Walking in, wow it was overwhelming. The space itself is brilliant. There are endless types of fabric, endless spools of thread and anything you want, (fabric wise) you got it. The people who work at King Textiles are so sweet, Incredibly helpful and charismatic. I am always looking for new locations for fabric and I'm excited at this find as I know it will be able to expand my pattern horizon. As for price, its comparable with all of the other locations in the Fabric district of Toronto. This business is definitely a dream for anyone who fancies a glass of wine and a sewing machine on a sunday afternoon! read more

You can find everything here! Fashion fabrics are at the top floor and upholstery and drapery are at the bottom. There is also a selection of discounted fashion fabrics at the bottom level in the back. Aside from fabrics, they carry a huge selection of sewing accessories, threads, zippers, patterns, and leathers. It can get a bit overwhelming navigating around, as this place is literally overflowing with fabric. Often times, it's hard to reach for the fabric as it is stacked very high. The staff here can get a bit impatient when I ask questions or ask to see the fabrics. It's open Monday - Saturday from 10am - 6pm. I wish it would close a bit later on the weekdays. read more

It's organized pretty well compared to other stores. There is an upstairs and downstairs area depending on what you need. The owner is an Israeli woman who is sweet and also direct. She was helpful and to the point. There was a younger shorter black woman who helped me initially and she was nice and helpful. I'm giving this review low stars because of the OLDER heftier BLACK LADY who was TERRIBLE in customer service!!!!!!! She had MAJOR ATTITUDE and was sooooo LAZY!!!! She didn't want to take out fabrics for me, she kept huffing and puffing when I asked her for things and it was really uncomfortable dealing with her!! I'm not sure why the owner has her working in her shop. She's definitely running her business down!! The other reviews on here all the same thing about this terrible older black lady too!!! The selection of Fabrics are amazing but one Carribean lady says rude things to customers that I was really turned off even when I came to buy all my draperies and 15 table cloths supposedly here. She will say things like "I'm done talking to you.." when I needed to ask her opinion..And when I approached her at the counter where the trimmings were she says "oh you're still here!? Frowning as she continuously checks her phone infront of a customer. Yes, she tried to help for 5mins. but with so much negative attitude after--I will never recommend or come here again! read more

I am new to sewing and just got a new sewing machine the other day. I decided to go to King Textiles since the ratings were pretty good. I entered the shop and it was pretty neat! They had so many different choices to choose from and i was pretty happy and excited to buy some... until i was basically kicked out of the store by an employee. I was browsing through the fabrics and an employee asked if i needed any help. I told her I just needed some white cotton fabric and she began to ask me questions about why i needed the fabric and then proceeded into asking me detailed questions about my sewing project that I wasn't even thinking about (where the waist line might be, how am I going to cut it). I truthfully told her that i was new to sewing and that I just wanted to buy some white cotton fabric to start out. However, she dismissed what I was asking for and began questioning me what the pattern of my dress was. At first I thought she was talking about what kind of pattern I wanted on the fabric itself but then I soon realized she was meant a different kind of pattern. I noticed this was a misunderstanding and asked her what pattern meant (now that i googled it, i know she meant sewing pattern). Without even explaining to me what she meant by pattern, she told me to "go back and figure out what your pattern is". How she worded her sentence and the way she said it with so much of an ELITIST attitude made me even want to quit sewing for a second even though I never got the chance to, BECAUSE SHE WOULDN'T LET ME BUY FABRIC. I was completely embarrassed and felt foolish into thinking that I wanted to buy white cotton fabric, EVEN THOUGH IT IS COMPLETELY NORMAL for people to buy fabric without having an elaborate plan in mind and without having a reason to justify why they wanted to. I felt as if I wasn't worthy enough to buy fabric. I wanted to turn around and just browse through the store again but she kept staring at me and waited for me to leave. I was pretty upset and took an hour ride back home, in shame, empty handed. Good selection, horrible customer service. Never again. read more

Today was the first time I visited King's. I usually go to a nearby fabric shop but thought I'd try King's. A mistake. To be honest, I let myself be bullied into making a bad choice colour-wise. The male employee told me I identified the colour I wanted wrong. I went with his advice and realised too late that I was initially correct. As a result I ended up with the wrong colour. To top it off, this same employee cashed me out and twice made a mistake with the change, shorting me some cash which was finally corrected. And, while I'm at it, why isn't King's measuring in metric? read more

The store itself has a wide selection and the pricing is as reasonable as I'd expect. The types of fabric are more clearly labelled than any other store in the vicinity, which I find very helpful, and for the most part, the staff are quite pleasant and helpful. There is one member of the staff, however (I believe her name was Olivia?) who is both pushy and rude. In past shopping experiences at King Textiles, she was offensively insistent, but earlier today was the last straw when she was openly discussing with coworkers delicate and offensive subject matter, ignoring the fact that there were two customers who could be insulted by her topic of conversation. It should be noted that she was fully aware that customers were right in front of her, that the topic of her discussion was unambiguously offensive, and that her tone of voice was very loud. I left the store pretty much appalled. While we might be back again - certain fabrics can't be found as easily in other places - it's the last stop on our list if we can't avoid going at all, just to avoid one particular salesgirl. read more

I was looking for a specific sequence, I checked at least 10 stores with no luck. Ended up at king textiles and the staff was so helpful and respectful just after walking in I felt like it was the right place. They have a huge selection of quality fabrics and the staff is actually quite knowledgeable, in the end I wasn't able to find the sequence, but they were able to order it for me. I just picked it up today. I am extremely happy with King textiles and will 100% stop there first for next project I am working on! read more

They might have an amazing selection, I won't question that, but their customer service is terrible. I was in there with my son in his compact stroller, and when i realized we couldn't fit in the aisles, and I didn't see what I'd specifically come to find, we were in the process of backing out and leaving when one of the staff (i assume an owner or manager sort) started snapping and hollering at me from the upper floor across the store to get the stroller out. I may have bumped some pleather rolls at most. I used to work in a fabric store, and I've got retail experience and this was piss poor service to yell at someone across a store. There's no sign saying "no strollers" and I guess mobility impaired people aren't going to be welcome either, even if you can manage the six steps down or up to the sales floor. It was appallingly rude, and I won't be bringing my sewing and fabric buying friends to this place either. We'll steer clear, we know when we're not welcome, because they opted to yell at me so everyone could hear. Real classy. read more

I am just learning to sew. I can't really attest to the selection etc., but the service was terrible. I the staff members would engage me and then just kind of wander off (both physically and mentally). One took a phone call in the middle of 'helping' me. Another made fun of me as I was making, surprise, surprise, basic things. The third staff member I dealt with was moderately helpful, but I could have done without the surly attitude (no small talk, no smiling, no pleasantries). I'm sure the contents of the store are fine, but the customer service is mediocre. read more

The lady who works the main floor is nice and helpful. The lady at the bottom level is VERY RUDE. I purchased some spandex to make swimsuits. I will say that the quality is very poor, the fabric is really thin and pulls. Although the quality from fabric to fabric varies, neither of my five spandex purchases were of any good quality. If all of the other fabric stores close by don't have what I'm looking for, I come here as a last resort. - I really dislike shopping here. On a positive note, King is by the far the most organized and clean out of all of the fabric stores on/near Queen Street (at most of the others, you can barely even walk). My biggest problem with King: The employees are extremely rude and condescending. I haven't dealt with the owner before, but all of my friends tell me she is awful. The last time I came in, the person I dealt with was an older blonde-haired woman who works in the clearance section. I found her to be very unpleasant and unfriendly. She told me that she didn't mean to come across as rude, and that she was trying to train 2 new people. I totally understand that it's busy and stressful, but somehow that's still not an excuse. Like this woman, most of the workers have an attitude and are definitely not good with people. The only two workers that I can tolerate are Olivia and David. They are by far the most helpful and patient. Try and have them assist you if you can. (Olivia's great because you can tell that she takes her job seriously, yet she is able to joke around with customers) My last piece of advice would be to shop elsewhere first. I've learned that this place often has the same fabrics as the other stores, except they charge a few dollars more. read more

They have a great variety of fabrics here! So much that it's almost maze-like. I was able to find a very good quality fabric from their selection of upholstery. The price I found was very good. :) I have to say though that their staff is not much help. I kind of had to help myself since the staff seemed to be preoccupied with their own chatter and I could not get any help. This seemed to be a more laid back artsy store so I wasn't really expecting fantastic service. Great variety, quality products, good price, but don't expect much service from them. read more

I know nothing about fabrics or anything crafty, and I've recently had a slew of bad customer service experiences, so I was pleasantly surprised by the woman who helped me here. I wanted fabric to cover my bulletin board a-la-DIY Pinterest style. She recommended the best fabric to use, was patient while I hemmed and hawed over what colour to choose, and even gave me advice on finishing touches. Their selection is awesome, but honestly, as a non-designer and non-crafty person what I was most impressed by was the customer service. I purposefully came very far to this fabric store on the time advertised as being open 1030 on a Friday. Only to find it not open. I walked around killing time cause there was a clearance sale I really wanted to check out. Came back at 1045, still not open. I wandered around again came back at 1100am, still closed. I finally gave up and found what I was looking for at neighbouring fabric store. As I was leaving the area I saw the store finally opening at 1115am. 45 MINUTES after the time displayed as being open for business. I'm sorry I understand the West end is laid back and chill but this was ridiculous! You not only lost a sale. I won't come back to your unprofessional business. read more

King textiles has probably the best selection on Queen st at reasonable prices, but I find it very stressful to shop there because of the employees. They can be quite pushy and sometimes condescending or rude. When I was a beginner one of them definitely sold me the wrong type of interfacing (I was not looking for anything complicated). I also have found them out of stock of basics like bias tape or elastics in common sizes. I go to King when I haven't found what I'm looking for anywhere else. read more

I don't even write reviews for places I shop/eat (whether it's a good or bad experience) but this place was so awful that I had to. I'd give it zero stars if it would let me. I received very rude customer service, especially when I asked them to cut a piece of fabric that wasn't filthy from people stepping on the end piece. I was in need of white fabric so I didn't think it would be too much to ask for a clean piece, but the woman seemed to think it was a lot of trouble and said she didn't want to "waste the fabric". When I got home and opened up my fabric piece, I saw that the whole thing had scuff marks all over it, rendering it useless to me. Customer service was even worse when I returned a few days later to ask for a new piece; they were extremely unpleasant and refused to believe that they had sold me the fabric despite the fact that I had my original receipt and the bag they gave it to me in. If you don't care about customer service then by all means shop here, they do have a very large selection and decent prices. However, I like to be treated with kindness when I shop, so I'd rather go down the street to any of the other fabric stores. read more

Most unhelpful. I wanted to buy 12 feet of adhesive backed Velcro and 12 feet of sew on Velcro. They insist that they cannot do that; has to be bought as a pair. I would have to buy in total 24feet of both adhesive and then 24 feet of sew on. This would leave me with 24 feet of redundant Velcro. In textile shops in Europe you can purchase whatever type and length you need. In my opinion this policy at Kings Textiles is a complete waste of money. Will never go there again!. read more
